Say you are thrown into an arena with two other strangers and are told to fight to the death. There is a table with three weapons, one wiffle ball bat, one box cutter, and one belt (note: no one is wearing a belt). You get to select your weapon first, which do you grab and why?
Box cutter is the obvious threat, psychologically. Whiffle ball bat guy is going to be looking at him first, meaning that it would be easy to force a 2 on 1. Belt gives me more range to work with which means bat is more likely to take box cutter damage.
Then I just have to stay diligent and make sure that I'm in better shape when it comes down to one-on-one. You can hit me with the bat or even cut me a few times and I'll probably survive. I only have to strangle you once.
Box cutter. Though the blades can be rather flimsy. A belt doesn't seem like a great choice because the guy with the box cutter can easily slip under when you ready another swing. Whoever chooses the wiffle ball bat is better off just using fists. Frankly, I wouldn't see that person as an immediate threat. There's a good chance that he or she only knows what they've seen on T.V. and movies (fighting wise) and the club fist approach is clumsy and easy to maneuver around.
Box Cutter. The bat is fucking useless, and if I'm up against anyone of similar build or stronger than me, he's just gonna take a hit and rip the belt out of my hand. So since both of those are out of the question, I'll just pick the cutter.
Mostly for intimidation purposes though, it probably wont work too well through clothing. But if I aim it against his face I might get a hit or two in towards the chest.
I would take that box cutter and start slashing the at eyes and face of the enemy combatants. Just get right up on them and start flailing my box cutter up about their face and eye area. They're gonna look like a squid by the time I'm finished slashing up their disgusting faces.
Would you invite me to your birthday party? I didn't think so.
I'm gonna say a belt, I've been smacked with the metal part of one before and it hurt like hell - that combined with range I think would render it more effective.
Jesus dude what the hell did you do to make someone hit you with the metal part of a belt?
How is a wiffle ball bat considered in the same league as a box cutter and a belt? When I was a kid, my friends and I would beat the shit out of each other with wiffle ball bats in our "lightsaber duels". Sure, they can sting like fuck if you get a good hit to the knuckles, but they are not suited to arena battles to the death.

This. Wiffle bats crumple and dent. You could bruise someone with one, but you'd have a hard time knocking an adult male out.
Belts could be effective, but it seems like they require some skill. Being skill-less I'd go with a box cutter.
Box cutter. The belt hurts, but you can still get in on one to use a box cutter. Then you have a belt and a box cutter.
I don't know if I'd tie the box cutter to the belt or not. Probably not. It would have mostly the same problems as the belt. But a box cutter on a wiffle bat...
I don't even think you could kill someone with a box cutter unless you went straight for the neck. Even then I'm not sure it's sharp enough to cut that deep. WIth a belt you can smack them with the buckle side, and trust me that hurts like hell. Plus you could use it to strangle them from behind. Although maybe my shitty barely functional box cutter is coloring my opinion.
