I am learning in Spanish in the 8th grade. Yes the 8th our school pushes us but it's for the best. Does anybody have any tips for learning Spanish. I learn languages really quick. When I moved from Serbia when i was 3 i learned English entirely by watching barney. Well that and later on in pre k and kindergarten. So yea give me some tips.

Keep in mind that you will NEVER need to use it and what you're learning now will only serve to make High School spanish much easier. ^_^

Watch TV in spanish and practice a bunch.

You probably won't ever need it but knowing more languages never hurts.

I took German in 8th grade. Your school isn't special! I refused to take Spanish, and French... well I never cared much for French. So it all fell down to Deutsch.

some spanish words are similar to english words.

example: obscure in english means :
not readily understood or clearly expressed

oscuro in spanish means:

dark, as in "i cant see anything"

the word has many meanings however they are used fairly differently in both languages

thats the extent of my spanish teaching skills xD

I've been taking Spanish since 6th grade. It sucks, but it's really not that bad. Most of the spanish classes in my school treat it as a minor joke, because everyone knows you'll never use it.

Here's a very valuable lesson: Cognates aren't always the same as their english counterpart, and therefore can be very dangerous:

For example, the false cognate "Emberesada". One would think that it means "Embarrassed or ashamed". WRONG. It means pregnant!

So remember kids, if someone says:

"Tu eres emberesada?" (But put an upside down "?" at the start), respond NO.

That's terrible advice for a pregnant lady. She'll just come off as a fat pig.

Get some games and play 'em with spanish speech and english subtitles, or the other way around. Worked pretty well for my german.

Junior high Spanish is a joke, especially if you can't understand your teacher like I couldn't.

it's just a prep for HS Spanish, that's it.
