Been listening to a lot of El-P's Cancer 4 Cure and Killer Mike's R.A.P. Music. Two awesome rap albums this year.

Fiona Apple and Baroness's albums are very good as well.

I would have picked Swing Lo Magellan as my top, and Channel Orange would wind up on my list. I also have strong interest in PSY's new album, the Fiona Apple album, the Norah Jones album, and the NaS album. I'll check out Killer Mike and Baroness as well.

Oh. It all makes sense now. Thank you.

Killer Mike's R.A.P Music and Aesop Rock's Skelethon are all I've been listening to. Gaslight Anthem is great from what I've heard.

Japandroids' Celebration Rock five times.

It is the perfect album for summer times. And all other times.

But if I have to pick four more, it's Fiona Apple, Passion Pit, Purity Ring, and Dirty Projectors.

Of the summer? So I guess Beach House and Cloud Nothings are off the table? Well, alright:

  1. Hop Along -- Get Disowned
  2. Japandroids -- Celebration Rock
  3. Dirty Projectors -- Swing Lo Magellan
  4. Foxygen -- Take the Kids off Broadway
  5. Passion Pit -- Gossamer

EDIT: I guess Get Disowned was May 5th, which isn't quite summer yet. The album itself isn't especially suited to summer, either. Add Walkmen's Heaven, in there, then. It's actually kind of Summer-y, as weird as it is for the band with an album entitled "Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone")

#28 Posted by Mcmurrow (49 posts) -

No seriously you guys, the new Passion Pit album is actually really good.

Wait, where's everyone going....

Fear Factory - The Industrialist

All I need

I'll go off topic a bit by asking if there's anything recent that's funky or soulful, energetic, or something that sounds like Mikey over there (<=) could've come up with.

#31 Posted by buwchbach (311 posts) -

I've only had a chance to pick up R.A.P. Music this year, but that was amazing.

#32 Posted by SpaceInsomniac (3632 posts) -

The Idler Wheel... - Fiona Apple

Reign of Terror - Sleigh Bells

Oceania - Smashing Pumpkins

Blunderbuss - Jack White

Some Nights - Fun.

Haven't had a chance to check out the new Passion Pit, but I did enjoy their first one.

Not lately, but if you like MJ and you're not already a fan, I HIGHLY suggest checking out some old Prince.

Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Sign O the Times, Controversy, etc. Be warned that many of his other works are very hit or miss, IMO.

Bad Rabbits. Check out their EP "Stick Up Kids".

#34 Posted by Aegon (5473 posts) -

@SpaceInsomniac: I remember listening to some Prince and thinking that his stuff was very tame compared to MJ's. Maybe some other songs would be better, but I dunno. He didn't do it for me.

Dark Roots of Earth by Testament

That is the only new CD I've bought this summer and it is pretty awesome.

#41 Posted by spiceninja (3056 posts) -

I love peeking in on these music threads. I am so out of the loop on music and all these bands you're naming just sounds like you're all making shit up.

#42 Posted by le_zane (63 posts) -

I would say Bloom by Beach House... Does May count as summer?

Yellow and Green-Baroness

The Idler Wheel...-Fiona Apple

Swing Lo Magellan-Dirty Projectors

Confess-Twin Shadow

Haven't listened to Channel Orange yet but it sounds like it's the real deal given the reviews and the comments on this thread

#43 Posted by ShaggE (6403 posts) -

Fiona Apple - Idler Wheel (glad that's coming up so often)

Emilie Autumn - Fight Like A Girl

Serj Tankian - Harakiri

Hmmm... the rest of my favorite 2012 albums came out before summer.

#44 Posted by sins_of_mosin (1556 posts) -

The Offspring - Days Go By.  Just so happy that they went back to their old sound.

Other then that, I usually a bit late on albums and such.

#45 Posted by Gramiero (142 posts) -

Elton John vs. Pnau - Good Morning to the Night

Azealia Banks - FANTASEA

Frank Ocean - Channel ORANGE

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...

TNGHT - TNGHT EP

#46 Posted by Rafaelfc (1324 posts) -

I'll just list the albums I listened the most during the summer... cause I have no idea when music is released anymore.

1. Rush - Clockwork Angels

2. Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania

3. In This Moment - Blood

4. Slipknot - Antennas To Hell (Concert Bonus Disc)

5. Serj Tankian - Harakiri

Wait, what? This came out already? The Formation Of Damnation was pretty shitty, so I'm not sure about this one.

You should check out Kreator's Phantom Antichrist, and Overkill's The Electric Age. Both are absolutely goddamn brilliant.
