Radiohead is good, but I think Coldplay's music, specifically past X&Y is much more interesting, listenable, and well-written. I do enjoy Radiohead's lyrics a lot but I've found that Coldplay's songs have more power, interesting instrumentation, and good ass melodies than Radiohead's.

What do you think?

I read everything you said, and all I could do was sit there and say to myself, "no" a couple of times. And more interesting? Pfft, to me, Coldplay just sounds like modern, mainstream alternative garbage, while Radiohead put out such classics as OK Computer and The Bends. I know opinions are opinions and all of that, but I just have to strongly disagree on this one

That's why it's my unpopular opinion. I know people hold OK Computer in really high regards, and I do love Radiohead. I'm just saying I enjoy Coldplay more.

Yeah unpopular opinion with me. Coldplay lost me all together with X&Y and even before that nothing they made was close to Radiohead.

Possibly unpopular Radiohead opinion: Kid A is their best album.

Well, considering the fact that I have not listened to any song by Radiohead that I am aware of, I will be going with Coldplay. They have several songs that I can put on and listen to all day, like...

  • The Scientist
  • Life in Techincolor ii
  • Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix)
  • Lost+ (with Jay-Z)
  • Clocks
  • Paradise
  • Violet Hill
  • Speed of Sound

Coldplay is good as pop music, and I never quite understood the appeal of Radiohead, so sure.

Didn't Coldplay copy large parts of a Satriani song?

EDIT: Yep. Parts of this song sound a lot like parts of Viva La Vida. Anyone with an ear can hear that.

Radiohead have the benefit of having a couple of songs I like, versus Coldplay having not a single song I enjoy (nice guys though, so that's something).

In saying that, whiny rock or whatever their genre is rarely appeals to me.

They're both whiny soft-radio-rock bands for grannies anyway. Easy listening for the modern age.

I just don't find it particularly interesting, like it just feels so soulless to me. It's the kind of music that goes in one ear and out the other. Not offensive but not really present. I'd probably get distracted even if I was at a Radiohead or Coldplay concert.

I remember when I was a kid around I think 15 or 16 . When MTV still showed Music videos. They had a " After Dark" Broadcast of videos and I remember watching this :

After that I started to like Radiohead. Not that I did not hear anything else from them before on the radio or even MTV. I guess its when I acknowledged who they were to myself and paid attention.

So with that I have t say I like Radiohead better .. I did kinda grow up with it though so it's kinda a biased opinion.

hmmmm.... one could say many things about Radiohead but soulless is not one that I would expect to hear, even if you don't like them.

@ArtisanBreads: It's all opinions and observation in the end, but Thom Yorke just doesn't come off as particularly genuine to me, that's all. I'm talking pretty much about the modern incarnations of these bands, so maybe in the 90s there was more to it, but I wasn't really listening to anything like that stuff at the time.

Yes opinions of course, I just think there is definitely soul and a drive behind Radiohead, although I can understand if some find it too soft, artsy, whiny, etc. York has a vision and they are a pretty unique band. Not as big of a fan of their last couple releases but they've done great work.

Coldplay... I don't feel the same way about that band. X&Y and on I think soulless sounds about right.

Please, don't be offended. But those who don't "get" radiohead's music just don't understand more complex and challenging music, stuff that isn't as easily accessible as Cold Play. IMO Cold Play aren't very interesting because they are too poppy and accessible, which is way is less "arty" and sophisticated, but they write music that is very popular and well loved, so in a way they are sophisticated, albeit in a less repectable way IMO. Therefore Radiohead are way more respected in in the music industry and with other artists and musicians. Cold Play's albums have never had the rave reviews that Radiohead have had.

P.S Please don't tell me im trying to be a hipster, I'm not. I actually find Radiohead's music more fun to listen to... after more than 10 listens because it can take that long to appreciate them haha
