Video card not supported error

So I just got my brand new AMD Radeon HD 7850 today, popped it into my PC and updated to the latest drivers. I figured I would try out Crysis (1) and max shit out just to see what my card could do. Instead of the holy light blowing me away from my monitor, an error window pops up telling me my video card is not supported and won't load the game at all. Somewhat confused too considering my old card was a GForce GTX260 and ran the game at med to high settings with no issues.

I patched the game and everything but any time the error comes up, it just closes out and never loads. Anyone know how to get past that error and load the game? If not, I'm not really THAT broken up that I won't be able to play it but, would be nice to try out!

It might be that the architecture in the new card didn't exist when Crysis launched so the game doesn't know how to handle it.

There's probably a workaround, though. To help troubleshoot:

  • Are you running the Steam, Origin, or a standalone version?
  • Do you have any issues running any other games?
  • One more thing to try: Force the game to launch with DirectX 9. Maybe it will work, maybe not.

I'll check back tomorrow and try to help more if I can. Good luck, duder!

Turns out it was user error! I forgot to uninstall my old Nvidia drivers before installing the Catalyst ones. So I went ahead and uninstalled them, but didn't reboot so everything was all messed up. Rebooted, uninstalled all AMD drivers and reinstalled them fresh, everything works fine, I'm just an idiot. Thanks for the help though!

Now if AMD would only sort out their damn issues with sending out the codes as part of their Never Settle promo...
