If we're talking about official retail releases, then I didn't really play a whole lot of super brand new games for the 360 or PS3 because of budgetary issues, but I quite enjoyed my time with DJ Hero 2. A lot of those mixes are at least somewhat fun to play, but when they're mixed really well, that's when the game takes on a whole other shape of its own.
Otherwise, if downloadable releases are included, I'd say Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. I was very apathetic towards the original Championship Edition, but DX takes the underlying Pac-Man formulas so far and so insanely that it's a ride well, well worth taking. As somebody who was depressed over not getting a third proper Space Invaders Extreme game in 2010, Championship Edition DX filled in that void quite nicely.
For me it's got to be Mass Effect 2, closely followed by Red Dead. Best downloadable was Super Meat Boy, followed by Pac Man Championship Edition DX.
If I win, I guess I'd like Splinter Cell because I have the others :P I played the original 3 but missed Double Agent and I'm told Conviction is kinda different again. Fingers crossed.
My friends still think I'm crazy for stating that the Scott Pilgrim game was my GOTY for 2010, but I stand by it. There was something just incredibly charming, something I can't really articulate. I guess you could chalk it down to my love of both the music and the source material, but honestly, I don't care. That game is great even if I'm not sure why.
@applet0n: I'm actually playing through that with my brother at the moment. I got the DLC and am playing as Knives! (Since I already beat it once by myself as Scott.)
@Vito_Raliffe: Out of curiosity, did you beat it with Scott before the patch that lowered the difficulty (Something I whole-heartedly applaud, that game could be brutal) or after? Because I actually found it a much more enjoyable experience with it being a little easier while I played it with my visiting cousin.
@applet0n: I didn't know they did that! I beat it before they released any patches for it. I remember thinking how hard the game was, even on the first level. I did lots of leveling up/buying stuff to up my stats/buying extra lives before beating it.
It's a toss up between Super Street Fighter IV and Bayonetta... but I think I'm going to give it to Bayonetta simply because Street Fighter IV already got 2009.
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for 360 was easily my favorite of 2010. I loved need for speed back on the ps1 and ps2 but then they kind of "drifted" off. Good to see a NFS game being talked about again. Also thanks for doing this, its very generous.
I think I liked Bayonetta way more than most people... although Assassan's Creed Brotherhood was probably my GOTY 2010... I'd love that copy of Splinter Cell.
my favorite ps3 game must've been Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. It was also my favorite 360 game cause I bought it twice. The ending of that game took my brain and crucified it.
Oh and I'd love to have your PS3 version of Dead Space
It's gotta be Red Dead Redemption. It grabbed me hard, I played it about halfway straight through, put it down for a bit, and then picked it up again and 100%d it in a matter of days.
Grrrr stupid ice storm preventing me from mailing Assassin's Creed II >:(

This should still be open, right? It's difficult to just name one game as my favourite of 2010, but... I think I'll have to go with NIER this time. Spent so much time with it, joyously, introduced a lot of people to it, wrote about it again recently. There was a lot of goodness there, and said goodness has survived for me into 2011.
