The thing is, the new Batman films are trying to reinvent the character as a lot more reality-based; human, flawed, gritty, and deeply embedded in the crime world of Gotham City. For the first time, the Batmobile looks vaguely plausible. Batman Begins gave a brief introduction to Arkham Asylum and the kind of villians seen in this universe. Batman is probably more realistic in these iterations than he's ever been.
Now: picture Robin appearing in The Dark Knight. Just his suit causes problems - those gaudy reds, greens and yellows standing next to the Caped Crusader looks out-of-sync. He doesn't actually bring anything to the fore. "Holy cow!" is not a plus.

Yeah Shia LaBeouf would be awesome! (you know,.. that dude from Transformers!) I don't know how he is gonna match with the dark theme of Batman, but I don't say no for some good humor! ;)
Well I'm not sure if Christopher Nolan said this, maybe he did, not saying he didn't but Christian Bale actually said he would not do another Batman movie if Robin were to be in it. He said he would chain himself up and refuse to go to work.

I think Robin would ruin the Batman movies though. I never liked Robin either or thought he was anything good or exciting and so forth.
Dude the new Batman movies are very dark and, well, just dark. Having some kid in red and yellow and green jumping about yelling "Jumping Jillakers Batman! It's the Joker!".
Robin in just a bad idea all around for these new Batman movies. He just doesn't fit the tone of what Christopher Nolan has created. Nightwing might work, but not Robin.
I would like to see a nightwing but Nolan and Bale have said if there's a Robin neither of them will be involved, how much of that is bitterness since Bale was turned down the role of Robin in the 90s I don't know though I can suspect
It could work, BUT, reinventing robin would take 100x more work than redoing the batman series. For right now I would rather he NOT be in any of the movies as is.
I think for Robin to fit well in this movie they need a whole movie to establish him in this dark setting before he takes up a mantle. Not like that crap Joel Schumacher came up with where he mixed the dark Tim Burton Batman and a campy Batman and dropped Robin into the fire.
If I wanted to see a homoerotic superhero pair about an adult and a young male I'll watch Sheumacher's batman. At least there the batsuit has amusing nipples for no logical reason.
