Gogol Bordello's Super Taranta! - Fun album if you're into that sound.
Funkadelic's Maggot Brain - Great guitar playing from 1971.
Jurassic 5's Feedback - I reminded myself of a song I really like on the album and now gotten back into them.

So hows about youse?

The Blackroc record, Blueprint 3, Cuban Linx 2, Born Like This, Doom Presents Unexpected Guests, I Heard it Today, and Escape Route are still on pretty constant rotation in the new year.

Well the new mancurian trio of Delphic have really impressed me with their debut album Acolyte. It's the first "new" music I've payed attention to in a good few years.

Having listened to so much Soundgarden, Audioslave and other Chris Cornell material in 2009, I finally got around to listening to Temple of the Dog's album last week - basically Chris Cornell & Pearl Jam - and I love it. Also started listening to Alice in Chains today and I'm liking them so far, especially the song "Would?".

Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike (I was at Chris Cornell's concert last Summer, where he performed this song with his band; unfortunately I hadn't heard it before then :( )

I'm listening to Narrow Stairs by Death Cab for Cutie. But the last album I bought was Contra by Vampire Weekend; it's pretty good.

@Binman88: Thanks, I remember the song but completely forgot the name of the band. Soundgarden is one of my favorites as well, will have to listen to Temple of the Dog.

I was at a concert that he was headlining in 2008 and everyone left when he came on stage. And I mean EVERYONE, only a few dozen actually wanted to see him.

the only new discoveries i've made this year so far have been cannibal ox (hip-hop) and gas/high skies (electronica). the latter has some works featured inosmos.

other than that i'm rocking the same old artists as last year so far. my favourite of which being pig destroyer (deathgrind/grindcore)

honerable mentions: whitehouse (noise), coil (industrial/electronica/noise), sunn o))) (drone), ween (alt. rock/other) & tism (pop rock/comedy/dead serious)

my tastes are all over the place.

I dont even remember all the bands from that night, the concert sucked. I want to say Chevelle and Three Days Grace were there. Maybe that band that did some Halo song. I think 5 bands total. The joys of being dragged to a concert by a bitch =/

Anyways, Im not commenting on his music. Im just telling a story :P

Damn I love Sunn O)))'s latest album. Probably an overlooked one for 2009.

Me, I am currently listening to a review copy of Ihsahn's new solo album for review. Also listening to some of Cobalt's Gin.

This thread can stay open as long as it doesn't turn into a collection of hundreds of one-line posts containing nothing more than the name of a song, album, artist, or link to a random YouTube video.

Well, this is the Year of the Black Rainbow, so I'm mostly listening to Coheed and for some reason I'm back into QOTSA, S.O.A.D and other stuff I listened to in High School.

@ThePhantomnaut: definitely one of the best drone albums out there. and accessible too. before that black one was pretty mainstream. but this one is accessible and groundbreaking dronewise without crossing the border from underground. something i would have never suspected sunn o))) of being able to do. they've always sort of been cloaked in the shadow of earth to me.

That's probably Breaking Benjamin? I actually quite like some of their older stuff (haven't heard their latest album, wasn't a huge fan of the one before that - Diary of Jane - though it had it's moments). Breakdown is a pretty good song.

I'm a huge Cornell fan, but I can safely advise people to avoid his latest solo album as it's such a huge turn from his previous work. It's an R&B styled album produced by Timbaland. With a live band though, the songs are a lot more palatable.
Having said that, I really liked his first solo album "Euphoria Morning". It's not as heavy as his previous efforts, but his voice is still put to good use and the majority of the songs are well written. (Steel Rain is one of my favourites from the album)

At the New Year I blasted "2010" by Cornelius. Seemed appropriate.

Also, I started listening to a lot of Talking Heads again. Bought Stop Making Sense as well.

The Conet Project. Recordings of numbers stations from around the world. If you don't know numbers stations are believed to be short wave radio signals sent to spies. You can look it up on wikipedia and the album is free to listen to. It's all pretty out of this world if you get into it.

P4K-core anyone? Just kidding. Its a cool album. And Contra is such a dissapointment. Horchata, Cousins and California English are the only good tracks on the whole fucking album.

Blood Stain Child - Freedom. Japanese melodic death metal combined with techno/trance. Awesomeness!

Also listening to some bitpop by Ozzed. His 8-bitpop tracks are great as hell.
