As the title implies, what are some of your favorite television comedies that you've seen? I'm loose with the rules so you can include any type of comedy you'd like. You can also list specific seasons of shows that you liked the best too. Whether its sketch comedies, sitcoms, animated comedies, you name it. Here's mine in alphabetical order:

  • Archer
  • Arrested Development
  • Monty Python's Flying Circus
  • The Office
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Rick and Morty
  • School Rumble (The most obscure one on this list for sure. Its a rom-com anime that pokes fun at love triangles and has pretty good dubbing for an anime. Its also probably the only anime I might care for. Also yes, you can include anime comedies if you'd like.)
  • The Simpsons (Season 2-10)
  • That 70's Show

I've never been much for comedies, but I've gone out of my way to see every episode of Red Dwarf. Even some of the later stuff that's of, uhh, varying quality..

Oh man, that's such a hard question! I like so many! My gut tells me.

1. Parks & Recreation

2. Arrested Development

3. The Simpsons (one of my all time favorites!)

4. The Office (seasons 2-5)

5. Futurama

6. The Venture Bros.

7. Nathan For You

I've also been watching a bunch of Broad City. That's shows is *fantastic*. It's on hulu and it's hilarious! More people should watch it! ?

In no particular order:

The Office (UK) - Short, only 1 season but every episode is fantastic and the Christmas party episode wraps it all up perfectly.

Nathan For You

Space Ghost Coast to Coast

Xavier Renegade Angel - Never quite seen a show like this before. It's insane, and really funny.

Futurama

Chappelle's Show

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

On Cinema at the Cinema - The best thing Heidecker has been involved with since Awesome Show.

Brass Eye - It's Chris Morris.

Wonder Showzen

@magmamud: a very respectable list you have there

Order somewhat significant:

1. Arrested Development

2. Rick & Morty

3. 15 Storeys High (a little known gem, especially in the US)

4. Xavier Renegade Angel (alternatively Wonder Showzen)

5. The Thick of It

6. The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer (or Shooting Stars, hard to choose)

7. The Venture Bros.

8. Jam or Brass Eye or both consecutively

9. Reno 911

10. Toast of London

Not really in a particular order:

  • Parks and Recreation: Probably my favorite comedy actually. Both between how funny it is and how they continued to develop those characters.
  • (Season 1 of) Arrested Development: I seriously loved Arrested Development when it was airing. After rewatching the series a couple of years ago, I have to admit season 2 is weaker and season 3 is even weaker than that, with 4 being kind of a weird thing.
  • Soap: When Soap is good, it's really good.
  • (Around season 2 through 12 of) The Simpsons: For years and years I've watched an hour of The Simpsons each day thanks to syndication.

I feel like I should pick an anime too, but I can't make up my mind.

  • The Simpsons (Seasons 2 - 8)
  • Seinfeld
  • The Office (UK)
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Spaced
  • South Park (Though I don't watch it anymore. It's not the same)
  • Futurama (Before it was cancelled.)

Actually, I haven't seen those Futurama episodes in a decade, so I don't know if they hold up. Simpsons is definitely better, though.

Same with Seinfeld, but I'm more sure about that.

Oh yeah, 30 Rock, I could probably sqeeze it in at 9 or 10. It's definitely better than later "prestige comedies", by which I mean Modern Family, Parks and Recreation and the like. It still had some tooth to it. Actually, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt could prove a worthy substitute in the long run, it's been more than alright so far.

Rick and Morty

It's Always Sunny

First 10 Seasons of The Simpsons

Nathan For You

High Tier:

South Park

Arrested Development

Futurama

Bob's Burgers

Mid Tier:

Don't want to do a low tier or bottom tier because that's too negative.

Also, to name something that's little newer and different, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It depends on how you feel about musicals, but I found it surprisingly good.

I could go through and list my favourites, but they've mostly already been mentioned. Mr Show with Bob and David has NOT been mentioned though, and is fucking excellent. Probably my favourite sketch comedy show.

The guys also make numerous references to it on podcasts etc. Especially @rorie I've noticed. Man has good taste.

Always Sunny would be my first if only because Seinfeld came first in the time line. I'd actually put both on the same level of quality. However, Seinfeld's cultural impact is just staggering from a view point of just how much social, and cultural reference is packed into each episode. I mean, you can use sentences from the show and even people with almost no interest will know immediately what you're talking about.

I feel like Chris Morris' career has been worthy of dissecting at ridiculous, microscopic levels. From Radio One DJ to producing 3-hour streams of late-night Blue Jam madness and a highly publicised sacking. That just shouldn't happen.

Of all time? Maybe Community or The Office? Not quite sure. Californication if that counts as well. Oh, and no way around Seinfeld and Curb.

On TV right now? Probably Atlanta, though it's more dramedy, emphasis on the drama.

EDIT: Also, why do people keep making long ass lists without any context? It's like, who's gonna benefit? Weird and dumb.

Recent times: Community, Brooklyn Nine Nine (probably my favourite), BoJack Horseman (is this a 'comedy'?), Archer, Arrested Development

Further back: Seinfeld, Blackadder, MASH, Black Books

Frasier is my all time favorite with Roseanne (Season 1 - 8) being a close second. I don't consider the final season to be canon to that show, as it is awful.

Shows that are currently on TV I would easily say It's Always Sunny and strangely enough Last Man Standing.

Haven't seen Broad City mentioned yet. That show is a golden comedy that deserves more attention than it gets.

Besides that, Always Sunny and Modern Family are good. Archer, Rick and Morty, Futurama, and Adventure Time from time to time.

Many great shows have breen listed here, but the only one I'll echo is The Simpsons because it's the greatest of all time. Now for the ones nobody has mentioned yet that have meant a lot to me.

Mad TV - Will Sasso is a legend

Clone High - long before The Lego Movie Lord and Miller were doing manic animated comedy like nobody else

Tiny Tunes, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Freakazoid - this run of Warner cartoons molded my brain into what is it now

The Muppet Show - Gonzo is my hero

The current comedies I'm keeping up with are The Last Man on Earth and Son of Zorn. Both from producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

To mention something I haven't seen anyone else say, and not necessarily my favorite, The Good Place. I decided to give it a shot and watched season one recently, and really enjoyed it. I think Ted Danson is really great in it. It's 13 episodes and has been renewed for a second season, so I suggest people give it a go. And that makes me think of Becker. I liked that, too.

To throw out another one, Pushing Daisies. That show was great, and was cancelled way before it should have been.
