I consider myself to be an agnostic with a slight lean towards theism/deism. I believe the possibilities are infinite in terms of the creation. What about you?

It's really hard to get rid of the child inside that has the beliefs you were raised to believe, so I'm more or less a muslim inside with muslim beliefs. I believe God is up there etc.... But I'm very skeptical of the whole thing, not a fan, don't really care for the whole deal.

I have no religion, I'm an atheist.

But I hate talking about religion with people, because religious conversations never end well. And I'm generally a pretty good guy.

Anyhoo. I personally don't believe any religion current or deceased have ever been anything more than wishful thinking. And I believe there are only 3 accurate answers to the question "Is there a God?"

1. I don't know. (the truest)

2. I don't know but I doubt it.

3. I don't know but I hope so. (the healthiest. That is of course that is assuming God is a perfect, loving being.)

I'm essentially an agnostic atheist. I don't believe we have anything close to evidence for the existence of a God, but at the same time we don't have 100% proof that a higher being doesn't exist and depending on the nature of the God we may not be able to. For those of you who are reading this post I'd also like to remind you that if you can't keep a discussion like this civil you will be moderated. I think the likelihood is that you guys can treat this topic without ripping out each others throats but I've seen it happen before and it doesn't end well for anyone.

Yeah, but anyone who tries to force their views down your throat is annoying, be it religous or political or whatever. I've just noticed that certain users on this community seem to treat religious people like they killed their parents. Or the myriad number of references to "imaginary sky man" or something of that sort.

#38 Edited by imsh_pl (3295 posts) -

Agnostic atheist here.

As far as the tolerance of other people's beliefs go I am perfectly fine with them having their personal convictions. I do, however, expect proper argumentation and justification when it comes to trying to impose their values on others using the force of law; "I believe this should be allowed/punished" does not qualify for me (at least not when it comes to issues without an almost omnipresent consensus).

I think the theistic response to "who created god" is that he is eternal and it is beyond human understanding. I know a lot of people just find it to be ridiculous, and will probably rip my head off for defending it in any way, so I'm going to leave it at that.

Actually there are only two. "Yes" and "No".

Whether we are anywhere close to discovering the answer is a different question entirely.

I'm an atheist, but I really don't care. A parental deity is crazy, but I don't really care if a god exists or not. Such a pointless idea. I honestly have trouble understanding why anyone really cares. I grew up completely outside of any kind of judeo-christian religion so they all seem as crazy as a bunch of adults believing in Santa Claus.

If you want to believe in a god go ahead.

#48 Posted by biospank (648 posts) -

We cannot know with certainty if God or Christ exists. They COULD. Then again There COULD be a giant reptilian bird in charge of everything. Can we be CERTAIN there isn't? NO, so it's pointless to talk about.
that quote is from south park and I am pretty much with these guys.

#49 Posted by spartan1017 (222 posts) -

I believe that God created the universe. I believe he sent Christ to die for all of humankind. And I believe that whole heartedly.

But this is not the place for me to try to convince you that. Neither is a street corner. Neither is going door to door. I believe to convince people that God loves them, I should show it in the way I act. It's not my place you beat anyone over the head with my beliefs. It's my job to be an example of my beliefs.

Cheers.

I was raised Jewish, but I can't say I believe or disbelieve in anything. Let's just go with agnostic.

I can't say praying has ever worked for me, nor have I seen anything that could count as "a sign from God", but I can't definitely say whether I believe God (or anything supernatural) exists or not, and I don't think it's in anyone's place to tell anyone else how to believe in anything. I think if you believe in something and it gives you motivation and hope (whether it be religion, friends, family, etc.), then I'm glad you have something like that in your life. We all need something to drive us.
