My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is my album of the year. It's hard to rank the rest though: Lady Killer (Cee-Lo Green), Contra (Vampire Weekend), Plastic Beach (Gorillaz), and Sleigh Bells.

To be honest, I'm not sure about a top-5 at the moment, I'd have to give it some time to properly think about it :P
But anyway, Black Mountain's "Wilderness Heart" would most definitely be on that top 5!

Haven't even heard of most of these bands. The TC's list is especially  terrible, emo and wannabe gangsta at the same time.

One of these was released in the late '90's, but it was new to me this year.

1.) Eminem: Recovery. I'm a huge fan of Eminem's and it's great to see him return to his former glory with a great new album.
2.) Nickelback: The State. It's over ten years old but I just listened to it this year. Haters gonna hate, but their first album is a great alt-rock album.
3.) Deadmau5: 4x4=12. A number of the tracks have been released already, but some not in the highest quality. The official release has some of his best songs yet.
4.) Daft Punk: Tron Legacy Score. Good to get you pumped up for the film, which I can't wait for!
5.) Dirty Heads: Any Port in a Storm (Deluxe Edition). At this point everyone has heard "Lay Me Down" but I encourage all of you to check out the rest of the album. These guys are the shit.

'The Suburbs' by Arcade Fire is the best experience I've had all year in music. So glad I got to see them live this year.

Also, I can't get enough of that drop in 'The Island' even though I don't like the song :s The hook, the hook!

@SMTDante89:  I think that's how it is with any old art form. I haven't read a current book in years, nor have I been to a contemporary art exhibition in a long time. Music is pretty similar for me.

Didn't buy a huge amount of music this year. Still, none of the albums I've heard so far have been clankers, so that's good!

5: Arckanum - Sviga Læ
As much as I love the guy and what he does, this album just didn't hit it quite as far out of the park this time.

4: The Dillinger Escape Plan - Operation Paralysis
Not A huge fan of the hardcore scene, but these guys have been putting out consistently awesome work.

3: Sigh - Scenes from Hell
Stunning Gothic Metal. Flamboyant, yet manges to be pretty raw and dark.

2: Front Line Assembly - Improvised Electronic Device
FLA doing what they do best. A solid return to the early 90's style guitar and synth stuff.

1: Fukpig - Belief is the Dead of Intelligence
Howling "neco-punk" grindcore. Blew my head off in the best possible way!

Runners up:

Aborym - Psychogrotesque
Cradle of Filth -  Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa
Deftones - Diamond Eyes
Mind.In.A.Box - R.E.T.R.O
Mortiis - Perfectly Defect

" I think Victims of the Modern Age by Star One is the only 2010 album I've listened to. "

This is indeed great. I think I'll put it at number 5.

5. Victims of the Modern Age by Star One

05. Human See, Human Do
I'll be honest, I was reluctant to get into this. I'm usually very much against power-esque vocals, but I decided to give this one a shot. Turns out, if you're willing to look past/accept them, it's awesome! Also, Dan Swanö. Dude makes everything better, right? (Genre: Progressive Metal/"Space Metal")

4. Monolith by In Mourning

04. The Smoke
While arguably not as great as their 2008 debut, Shrouded Divine, this is still a very solid effort. (Genre: Progressive Death Metal)

3. Fortunes Haze by Look to Windward

03 Fortunes Haze II: Exodus/Return
I literally just found out about this yesterday, so if I'd had more time to listen to it, it might have ended up at number 2 even. Anyway, completely unknown and new band, album came out just last week, only one song on YouTube as of right now, but not the one I had picked as a sample, so the link will have to do. (Genre: Progressive/Atmospheric/Extreme/I-don't-know these-guys-are-kind-of-all-over-the-place-Metal)

2. Anthropocentric by The Ocean

05 The Grand Inquisitor II: Roots & Locusts
Can you believe these dudes put out two albums in one year? While the other one, Heliocentric, maybe wasn't that great (but still good!), this one does do everything right. They greatly improved upon the clean vocals they tried out on Helio, and at the same time brought back all the heaviness that made them great in the first place. (Genre: Progressive Sludge (yes fuck you it exists))

1. Aquarius by Haken

03 Aquarium
Yep. Don't have much to add either. Anything I would say would probably sell this short. I suggest people just listen to it. (Genre: Progressive Rock/Metal)

In no particular order

Broken Bells - Broken Bells
Loved this album.  Definitely wish there was more of this kind of music around.  Also, loving this album finally got me into The Shins, which I had been trying to do for a while.  If you like The Shins and haven't heard this album, definitely check it out.

Angels and Airwaves - Love
Unapologetically , blink-182 is my favorite band, and I've loved pretty much all of the side projects and post-breakup bands all of it's members have been involved in.  Love is probably my favorite of the Angels and Airwaves albums, and they released it for free, which is pretty cool.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Like a lot of people, I loved Funeral.  Neon Bible didn't quite do it for me, although I did enjoy it.  I picked up this album, and although I didn't like it a lot the first listen, it's definitely a grower, and every listen since then has been better and better.  Good length, interesting vocals and lyrics, really cool style.  Also, check out this music video.  http://www.thewildernessdowntown.com/.  Fuckin cool stuff right there.

Stars - The Five Ghosts
I'd been meaning to get into Stars for a while now, and I'd given Set Yourself on Fire a few listens and enjoyed it well enough.  Then my friend and I were about to go to a concert of their's on the The Five Ghosts tour so I went ahead and bought it and gave it a listen on the bus ride up to where the concert was.  I really liked it, and then seeing them live really got me into it.  Was a great concert, and this is a great album.  Sort of a "cleaner" sound then their other stuff I've heard.  If you like indie electronic rock at all then you should like this one.

Faded Paper Figures - New Medium
Speaking of indie electronic rock, I'd grabbed the first Faded Paper Figures album, Dynamo, a few months before this album came out, and I liked it a lot.  It was sort of a more "chill" take on indie electronic, and I really liked that.  On my first listen of New Medium, I didn't really like it.  I don't remember why, but I think it just wasn't what I wanted from this band at the time.  However, I gave it another listen a couple months ago, and for some reason it clicked.  It's a really cool album, and if you're into this sort of music, check it out.  Really makes me mad that fucking Owl City gets a shit load of sales, but actually interesting and good bands like this one don't get any press.

I still haven't heard the new Kanye West album in its entirety, but the little that I HAVE heard is fucking fantastic.  The guy may be an asshole, but man....he can back himself up.

Beyond that, here's my top five at the moment:

Periphery - S/T

Great new progressive djent band with a killer lead singer and excellent time signatures.  Really looking forward to what they do in the future.  Not since Sikth have we had something so pleasant to enjoy.

Big Boi - Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

As a longtime Outkast fan, liking a Big Boi album isn't too difficult.  However, Big Boi goes beyond his Outkast tendencies and makes a stellar debut solo record that proves he's still as great as ever.

10 Years - Feeding The Wolves

This was easily my most anticipated album of the year, as I'm a massive 10 Years fan.  Their last record, Division, was a fine departure for them, but Feeding The Wolves bring them back into comfortable territory.

All That Remains - For We Are Many

My second most anticipated album of the year was the new All That Remains, and...well, I'll just leave this here.

Demon Hunter - The World is a Thorn

I'm an unabashed Demon Hunter fan, and they wrote their best album yet with The World is a Thorn.
