I like these a lot...

  • Laputa
  • Kiki's Delivery Service
  • Ghost in the Shell
  • Millennium Actress
  • Ratatouille
  • 5 Centimeters Per Second
  • My Neighbors the Kamadas
  • Paprika
  • Mind Game
  • The Girl Who Leapt Through Time

...but it's kinda like your other thread. Numbering things while fun for arguments sake, is kinda impossible and silly. I also find it funny and silly when people say "trilogy" like it's one movie. People do it a lot. Just pick one and stop cheating. In your case it's easy. It's Toy Story 1.

  • Almost all of the DC animated movies are great, with my personal favorites being Batman: Under the Red Hood and Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths.
  • I love some of Disney's movies, such as Lion King and Aladdin. The Incredibles is also great if you consider Pixar's movies in the same category.

I'm kinda surprised that I'm the only one who posted Heavy Metal, that movie /does/ need more attention. :P

Ohhh, yeah. Consider Batman: Mask of the Phantasm a good number 11 spot for me.

@shivermetimbers: Heavy Metal was definitely awesome, I have a similar place in my heart for that movie as I do things like Aeon Flux and Fantastic Planet (although AF was not a movie).

I totally forgot about Mask of the Phantasm too! That would definitely be in my list, as well as Fantastic Planet. Heavy Metal would be my number 11.

Much like the other thread, I have no way of really sorting through every single animated film I've ever seen and ordering them based on how much I enjoyed them.

Toy Story was good, as was Toy Story 2. Up was good. I watched Nausicaa and Totoro the other day and both of those were cool. That's about it for animated films I've seen recently enough to have positive opinions on.

Hmm... In no particular order:

Akira

Ghost in the Shell (I think I may like Innocence better in terms of animation, but I think the story Ghost in the Shell tells a superior story)

Parikia (Solely for the quality animation, which is fantastic. I don't actually like the film much.)

Toy Story (A lot of nostalgia comes into play with this one. Difficult to go back to now but great at the time.)

Princess Mononoke

The Lion King (A lot of nostalgia for this one too. Watching it now I can't stand the musical nature of it and find most Disney songs to be annoying in general but I still get the warm fuzzies when I think about it)

Spirited Away

Up (after saying I like Up to people they always tell me that it sucked. I don't think that's true at all. The first sequence of that film is near perfect, and the adventure that makes up the rest of the movie was really fun for me. Opinions, I guess, eh?)

Wall-E

Summer Wars

@hunkulese: I understand that a TRI-logy is three movies. It is my list, so I decided to group them as one because they are all continuations of each other. I could watch all three in a row, and it would feel like one long movie. Also, I wanted to give more movies recognition.

  5. Frozen
  6. Tangled
  7. Ratatouille
  8. Beauty and the Beast
  9. Toy Story 3
  10. Inside Out

The first two on my list are two of my very favorites movies, regardless of genre. Up is a fantastic movie. The action sequences in South America are a little goofy, but the way the movie ties that stuff back into the Carl and Ellie relationship at the heart of the story is damn near flawless. I've enjoyed the Toy Story movies, but appreciate them more for their landmark status in the history of animation. The third movie is the only one to get a truly emotional reaction from me, so it goes on the list. Now we'll see if Inside Out can stand the test of time.

  • Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Rankin/Bass 964) - Yeah, this one is first. I watch it every damn year, and it still works because it is funny as hell.
  • Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)
  • Toy Story (1995)
  • Spirited Away (2001)
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
  • Akira (1988)
  • The Iron Giant (1999)
  • Wallace & Gromit - A Close Shave (1995)
  • Princess Mononoke (1999)
  • Tron (1982) ---Yeah, fuckin' TRON son! It is 95% animation.

This list is impossible to do justice with. I could just say Hayao Miyazaki and Disney dozens of times for dozens of movies, but much of that just goes without saying. TRON is my stand in for dozens of movies like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" or Ray Harryhausen stop-motion animated classics like "Jason and the Argonauts"! I have to give a shoutout to Nick Park who has done a lot to make animation cool again in the 1990s with his loveable plasticine characters. Also....damn us all... for forgetting Rankin/Bass who not only did the Rudolph, Santa Claus stop motion movies, but did The Hobbit too!
