Hello giantbomb community, I haven`t come up with an original question like this in a while, I was thinking, I just came back from walmart with my sister and her boyfriend, we were hungry and looking for something cheap to get and eat, I had a couple of bucks on me (and by me I mean the countless amount of useless money my sister has but nicely spends on me), so I was like "fuck it, i`m hungry", and got quite a couple of things, what did I get you ask? Well, I got my personal favorites, a box of supreme pizza hot pockets (a box full of 12 in them), some powdered donuts, and three bottles of some amazing, and something people should drink more often, Cherry Dr.Pepper. I gotta say, this is a perfect combo for a midnight snack, it`s just...amazing. Now, I would like to hear about what YOU get at the store as far as snacks or food goes, this can be gas stations or mini marts, anything really.
So, giantbomb, what do YOU get at YOUR local grocery store?
What do YOU get at YOUR local grocery store?
If I'm buying come home drunk food it's normally a frozen pizza or a pie. Something I can shove in the oven and then into my mouth with less than a 20 minute turn around.
I love pickled pig ears, sweet peppers, pepperoni on a good cracker.
I get Cherry 7up from my local shop, it's one of the best cherry soft drinks out there. Do you guys have cherry 7up in America?
Hmmm...Whatever soft drink is on sale, maybe a box of corn dogs from time to time. Oh, and a bag of shredded Mexican cheese and a bag of tortilla chips. Other than that, it's mostly essentials and healthier stuff. Bananas, bread, salad, juice, hot dogs & buns, maybe some pretzels. Strawberries, if they're in season.
First off, I don't consider Walmart a grocery store.
I usually get cooking ingredients from the grocery store. I enjoy cooking, and after you are used to eating home cooked food, you can't really settle for microwavables or cheap pizza. I don't ever have a list either, I just go down each aisle and decide if I want/need the item.
Replace your supreme pizza hotpockets with either pepperoni or ham and cheese and your cherry Dr. Pepper with vanilla coke and you've got my ideal meal buddy.
So I was perusing the frozen food isle and was thinking that a nice frozen chicken pot pie would make a great lunch, so I made my way over to that freezer section. Much to my surprise there was a new item sitting next to the usual fare:
" Pepsi cola, 2-4 cans nearly every day. "Two sodas a week increases the risk of Pancreatic Cancer by 87%.
I don't go anymore, but when I was in college I would always grab a cold cuts wrap to eat for dinner when I got home. The Atlantic Super Store I went to made these amazing wraps that had like 2-3 inches of cold cuts wrapped in fresh lettuce, tomatoes and pickles with just the right amount of mayo and mustard to compliment every thing and not over power it like so many places do. God dam I miss them.
When I was in college, and still able to buy my own groceries, I ALWAYS had a case of pop in the house so I would also drink a can of pop and grab a handful of chips to go with it. Usually Cheetos for the chips, and ether Barqs Root Beer, Sprite or a Coke for the pop.
" @Murray said:Everything increases the risk of cancer these days. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if even worrying about getting cancer increases the risk of getting cancer." Pepsi cola, 2-4 cans nearly every day. "Two sodas a week increases the risk of Pancreatic Cancer by 87%. "
" @Osaladin said:I know! Shit, I should be dead D:'" @Murray said:Holy shit, well what makes 32 in a week? XD "" Pepsi cola, 2-4 cans nearly every day. "Two sodas a week increases the risk of Pancreatic Cancer by 87%. "
@crusader8463:
True! Some years ago they said eating tomatoes increases the risk too. Well well, I'm healthy enough. ^^
Mountain Dew Energy, any foreign drinks that they sell, can't harm you to try something new right? Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, Oreos.

Walmart Supercenters are definitely grocery stores with all the same food items found in normal supermarkets including a deli section, bakery, fresh produce and meat counter." First off, I don't consider Walmart a grocery store..."
I buy whatever I need to eat at either Walmart Supercenter or Publix Supermarkets. I plan to go food shopping today, and I know I need some staple items as well as some soup and (mmm) frozen burritos.
" My wife does most of the grocery shopping. Apparently I just mess it up every time I try. But I always need Tim's Jalapeno Chips. Absolutely essential. So, so good. "Tim's Cascade Jalepeno are the best potato chips on earth. Wasabi, Original, and Sea Salt & Vinegar are other favorites of mine. Glad to know they're around San Fran, I know a lot of the country isn't so fortunate. Have you tried Erin's All Natural Original Popcorn, also made by Tim's? Delicious.
" @Murray said:Yeah, I'm no health nut, but you can't pay me to drink pop. Also, warning to the wise, "Aguava Nector" is actually worse for you that High Fructose Corn Syrup, as magical as it sounds." Pepsi cola, 2-4 cans nearly every day. "Two sodas a week increases the risk of Pancreatic Cancer by 87%. "
The last snack I bought was at a petrol station early on sunday morning which was a Mars bar, 20 cigarettes and a pornographic periodical. Might not seem like a completely odd purchase but given that I'm diabetic, don't smoke and was being driven home by my lovely girlfriend makes them quite odd.
Normally it's just a diet cherry coke or Dr Pepper zero
" @Osaladin said:While that certainly is true, most of the articles about things giving you cancer don't have such intensive tests on the matter. This particular study was done following around 60,500 people for a period of 14 years. You can't really argue with those findings. And can we all really say that soda is not unhealthy? The amount of sugar alone is sickening." @Murray said:Everything increases the risk of cancer these days. If you are going to buy soda, at least try to get sugar free, healthy doesn't mean nasty.
" @Murray said:I am FUCKED." Pepsi cola, 2-4 cans nearly every day. "Two sodas a week increases the risk of Pancreatic Cancer by 87%. "
So fucked, in fact, that emphasis required the use of bold, italics and underline.
"This particular study was done following around 60,500 people for a period of 14 years. You can't really argue with those findings."
If you are going to buy soda, at least try to get sugar free, healthy doesn't mean nasty. "Firstly, yes you can. Studies like this go some way to prove a correlation, but there are an unknown number of variables affecting each and every one of those people. The results look a little like "30% of people drink semi-skimmed milk; 1/3 of people are directly affected by cancer; milk causes cancer" (To be fair, milk IS thought to cause cancer, but this research method is unsound to say the least).
Secondly, diet drinks contain phenylalanine which is purported to cause brain tumors, so you're probably better off with neither.

I get bitched at by my boss at my local grocery store...because I have the misfortune of working there.
EDIT: Lots of buzzkills in this thread, damn...
