Poll: What do you think of Geraldo Rivera? (90 votes)

He's an American Hero. 4%
I like him. 8%
Meh... 44%
I hate him. 10%
He's a scum sucker. 33%

I personally think he's a misunderstood hero. Why would I think such a thing about a Fox News reporter who's infamous for idiotically giving away the position of our secret desert military base during the Gulf War? The answer is simple: Willowbrook.

Many of you will have to ask your parents what this means, but here's a brief synopsis from a presentation I gave 10 years ago in my High School Spanish class: In 1970 a reporter named Geraldo Rivera along with a camera crew broke into Willowbrook State Sanitarium in New York. What they found could only be described as some deep down layer of hell filled with forgotten or discarded people. The residents of Willowbrook, many of them young children, were in the dark; naked; covered in feces; sick from malnutrition and starvation; had no place to sit; were virtually unattended to; and most of the time they were locked up in a cell not even fit for an animal. These people, the salt of the earth, would have continued to suffer, just because they could not speak for themselves, if it wasn't for Geraldo Rivera exposing Willowbrook's crimes to the public.

Geraldo's story lead immediately to reforms in the New York State sanitarium system as well as the eventual closing of Willowbrook in January 1987 and the horrific Craig State in October 1989.

That is my 2 cents on Geraldo. What do you think of the man?

I came in to say "He's one of the best game protagonists I've seen in years," but then I realized that I misread the title.

But still, Geralt of Rivia is pretty great.

I don't think about him. At all.

I was about to come in and say 'fuck everything he's done in the last 30 years, but he deserves anything he gets for exposing Willowbrook'. Arguably exposing the state of mental health all across the country. It's a shame he's as... Not even ridiculous, but as completely foolish as he is now. But it is worth remembering Willowbrook.

one good story does not make him a good reporter (or even a good person).

fuck, even Bill O'Reilly is better than him

Dammit! I was seven minutes and fifty four seconds too late. Enjoy your victory while you still can.

You ever think of a comeback/punchline that you'd want to use, but is really mean and completely the opposite of how you really feel? That's what this is.

"Come on, let's not drag Patrick into this now."

Figgered I'd be too late to be the first. qft.

No vote because even "M'eh" is too passionate an answer.

I could care less about him. Meh

#12 Posted by Reisz (1527 posts) -

I literally have no idea who this is. From the poll options I have made a conscious decision to keep it that way.

He's still alive? I remember he had a talk show like 20 years ago.

Like a lot of people who were somewhat famous in the late 80s / early 90s.

While were at it, what do people think of Murphy Brown?

Willowbrook was a long long time ago duder.

Geraldo gave away military positions in Iraq and even drew a map of what kind of layout it had.

Fuck Geraldo

Don't worry: I know who he is and I'm scratching my head too.

I'm surprised all the threads like this aren't about Edward Snowden.

Also, the NSA is now watching this thread.

A game with Geralt of Rivia as an investigative reporter would be awesome.

#24 Posted by Fredchuckdave (6158 posts) -

He does seem to actually be interested in journalism which is ridiculously rare for any news organization these days.

#25 Posted by hidys (1029 posts) -

Geraldo opened up the vault into my heart... unfortunately for him it was an empty vault.

#26 Posted by Stonyman65 (2873 posts) -

He's said some things I agree with in the past, and has said some things I don't agree with in the past. I don't really care either way.

The whole giving our troops position away thing was really fucked up, but everyone makes mistakes. I seriously doubt he meant to do it.

#27 Posted by Darson (448 posts) -

He got a lucky break.

#28 Edited by TyCobb (1975 posts) -

I prefer John Stossel over Geraldo. I don't really have anything against Geraldo, but he seems to love the limelight a little too much and I think that sways a lot of the shit he says and does.

#29 Edited by Dalai (7071 posts) -

Geraldo deserves a chair to the face.

Again.

#30 Posted by CornBREDX (6044 posts) -

@dalai: you deserve a funny reference video for that =)

#31 Posted by MariachiMacabre (7099 posts) -

He comes across as an idiot.

#32 Posted by dudeglove (8300 posts) -

Oh so that's why he's famous? Huh.

#33 Edited by kerse (2118 posts) -

Is it weird I thought the title said Geralt of Rivia at first?

edit: read the thread, apparently I wasn't the only one lol

I can't decide which game would be better: Geralt as a reporter or Geraldo as a womanizing monster slayer.

#35 Posted by EarlessShrimp (1669 posts) -

Geral-who? I thought he was an elaborate fictional story that parents would tell bad children before bed to get them to act right.

#36 Posted by TheManWithNoPlan (6003 posts) -

I don't care about Mustache man or Cocks news.

Wow, I didn't think I could be such an ass on the Internet. My statement stands regardless.

I don't think you appreciate the full gravity of this "one good story."
