Parts of it are ok/ well informed like the time whats his name emulated mario on his laptop. But then other parts of it are just off base.

#3 Posted by WMWA (1160 posts) -

My mom loves it and thought I would find it funny because it's "intelligent." I just can't get into it for some reason. It's not funny to me and the laugh tracks bother the shit out of me. Plus, that one dude is trying way too hard to be Fez from That 70's Show

#4 Posted by ZimboDK (848 posts) -

Yeah, it's pretty good. It's no How I Met Your Mother, but does feature Kaley Cuoco in revealing clothes.

#5 Posted by MideonNViscera (2257 posts) -

It's fucking annoying, and the concept of nerds was outdated long before this show was conceived.

#6 Posted by JasonR86 (9657 posts) -

I've never watched it but, from what I gather from the ads, I wouldn't enjoy it at all.

#8 Posted by Three0neFive (2291 posts) -

It's the equivalent of nerd blackface.

Fuck that show.

#9 Posted by Deadmanforking (575 posts) -

I enjoy the show.

#10 Posted by alternate (2696 posts) -

I have seen a couple of episodes and seems fine for a US network comedy. Certainly no worse than say Friends or Cheers and a lot better than that Charlie Sheen show with the fat kid.

That needs to be added to the poll.

#12 Posted by JusticeJanitor (145 posts) -

It's ok.Very hit and miss. A lot of the jokes feel forced. That Ubuntu joke made cringe.

#13 Posted by PenguinDust (12493 posts) -

My parents watch it every night. Me, I just can't get into it, but I don't watch many sitcoms anymore so I can't really judge.

#14 Posted by pornstorestiffi (4911 posts) -

Not a very funny show, its pretty damn bad. Try watching some of the clips on youtube where people have removed the laugh track, that is almost cringe worthy.

Thank you for clarifying my feelings!

Just wondering, cause it seems to get a fairly even distribution of people who love it dearly and loath every fiber of its being. I watched a bit of it today and can't say I finished a whole episode. I've overheard people talking about the show, some peg it as the funniest show on TV or funnier than this or that. I think I stopped watching after someone made an offhand comment about Ubuntu that was followed by a ridiculously fake uproar of laughter.

#17 Edited by M1M1C (59 posts) -

It's often on in the kitchen in my flat, i don't think i have ever laughed at it once, it actually annoys me and it paints a weird picture of what 'nerds' are.

I'd be happy if that show just disappeared from existence.

#18 Posted by phish09 (1109 posts) -

Incredibly painful to watch, but it is targeted at kids and pre-teens, I just don't think I'm in their demographic.

#19 Edited by Sammo21 (3261 posts) -

I think the poll options are skewed...I think the show is funny and wife enjoys it as well; it is not my favorite show however.

@Three0neFive: so what your saying is that shit is hilarious

#20 Posted by Fobwashed (1985 posts) -

The first time I saw it, I thought it was stupid. . . and then I couldn't stop watching. I think the show is entertaining and while they push the nerd thing to its very edge, it isn't doing it in a way that depicts nerds in a bad way. Or at least, not in an overly negative way like it could have. More often than not, it makes it seem like people who don't understand them are idiots. Also, I think the show hits a lot of areas that other shows wouldn't really be able to without it just being a side thing with the one smart character in a sitcom doing something ancillary. The poll needs something below favorite, but above lots of misses. It's definitely not my favorite, but I don't think it has a lot of misses neither.

#21 Posted by Swoxx (2993 posts) -

I used to like it a lot, these days I'm kind of bored with it though.

#22 Posted by SeriouslyNow (8534 posts) -

Love it.

#23 Posted by Hosstile17 (763 posts) -

It is about as interesting or relevant as a show about teenage girls having their first period, written by a 70 year old man.

I never really enjoyed the jokes and the laugh track is unbearable.

the thing is that it's not at all "intelligent" ... it's one of the flattest comedies out there. just because the characters are supposedly super-smart doesn't mean the show itself is, too.

I watched all seasons in one go last summer, after a friend recommended it to me. The first few episodes were atrocious. Once they recognized the potential for humor laid in the interactions between the characters they created it got better, going from tolerable to sometimes funny and back.

When it's good it takes advantage of the extreme weirdness of Sheldon or (what's his name?) Simon Helberg's character interacting with one of the "normal" people like Penny or Helberg's character's girlfriend who of course got their own quirks.

The "nerd" stuff is sometimes totally stupid (well, most of the time) but sometimes comes off as believable (actually talking about emulating Mario 64 on a laptop and about how weird that is instead of pretending a PC is the natural platform to play it on as other shows would - or when the apartment got robbed and Sheldon listed off multiple games who had been stolen when asked by the policeman).

When it does the typical "nerds are funny because they ARE nerds" or "nerds can't talk to women" humor, it falls flat and fails miserably. It's funny once or twice if done well ... but it's not.

Also, that laugh track is so fucking obnoxious...

I didn't watch it this season, because I just can't take it anymore. Sheldon's oddness can't sustain my interest any longer and I moved on to shows that are actually smart (poor Community, why do people not watch the best comedy on TV?)

#27 Posted by RIDEBIRD (1232 posts) -

There's a better one that basically says LOL SHELDON I HAVE FEELINGS 4 U to which the response is I HAVE ASPERGERS and laughing people, but I couldn't find it. Terrible show, terrible terrible terrible representation of "nerds".

I really like Community too, holy shit that black guy from bro rape and chevy chase are amazing.

#29 Posted by cap123 (2477 posts) -

I think it's great and I don't think I've seen a bad episode, it's just so easy to watch.

#30 Posted by nintendoeats (5975 posts) -

If you like Big Bang Theory you should watch The IT Crowd. The first season includes extremely awesome "l33t subtitles" for the first episode. And from there it gets better.

Then there's Spaced with the duders from Shaun of the Dead. They are less nerds and more outcasts, but it's still pretty baller.

British people tend to make better TV.

#31 Posted by TooSweet (381 posts) -

I've watched an enjoyed it. Last season kind of sucked. Too much of that Sheldon dude. And I freakin' hate that Bazinga shit. Annoys me to see a person wearing a shirt that says that. I prefer watching Community.

#32 Posted by Marcsman (3180 posts) -

Those nerds won me over, plus the chick is hot.

#33 Posted by MentalDisruption (1622 posts) -

I enjoy it. I don't take it too seriously either though. It's obviously not a realistic representation of actual nerds (aside from a few things here or there), and if you expect it to be that then you're expecting the wrong things from the show.

#34 Posted by TheSouthernDandy (3855 posts) -

Its entertaining enough that I enjoy it when I watch it but its not nearly as hilarious as most people seem to think. And the whole "hey guys these are totally what nerds are like!" thing is sorta annoying.

Community is so much better, I don't get how that show isn't more popular.

#35 Posted by PhatSeeJay (3322 posts) -

Love it.

#36 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8698 posts) -

Started good, but ended up horrible.

Besides, Leonard is constantly insulting Sheldon, constantly he's doing the worst shit to him...and they are supposed to be best friends and long time room mates?
I'd break that fucker's face in 24 places if he was my friend...and the sheer stupidity of it made me stop watching the show.

#37 Posted by Cloudenvy (5891 posts) -

From what I've watched of it I find it paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaainfully unfunny. Switching between "yay, actual nerd stuff" and "LOL NERDS CAN'T TALK TO GIRLS LULZ" is a good way to make me hate your show even more.

#38 Posted by TooWalrus (13167 posts) -

My fucking step-dad loves it, so it's got to be the worst thing in the world. I've watched bits and pieces and didn't care for it... It's pretty much what @WinterSnowblind: said- it's borderline offensive. Plus my mom got him this shirt for Christmas, and if I ever see him wearing it, I'll probably hit him with my car. I don't know what it means... it's got to be some shitty catch-phrase, right?

I knew someone in high school like Sheldon. He was the creepiest, most know-it-all, insufferable fuck I've ever known. Fuck that show.

#41 Posted by Sauson (561 posts) -

It's watchable but I don't find every episode funny.

#42 Edited by iPliskin (117 posts) -

Let's just put it this way, if i was a mod here at Giantbomb, i'd permaban every lowlife who likes that offensive piece of shit... and i'm dead serious.

#43 Edited by pweidman (2325 posts) -

I love the show, and get some good laughs every episode. Not like there's many good sitcoms anyway. At least this one's fairly witty and funny. Never thought it would last but now it's syndicated all over.

EDIT: The over-the-top negative reactions to this thread are so damn predictable. Get over yourselves for Christ's sake.

#44 Posted by theguy (796 posts) -

I used to like it until i realised how terrible it actually is.

#45 Posted by WickedFather (1733 posts) -

If it weren't for the skirt 80% of blokes wouldn't give this cack the time of day.  People assume I'd like the show because I'm science, but it's weak formulaic tripe.

#46 Posted by Pazy (2563 posts) -

I really enjoy the show. It does have stereotyped nerds because it dosent seem to be an offensive portrayel to me, in facts its Id see it as accurate in a TV kind of way. And it hits a lot of jokes, either way I laugh a lot and enjoy it.

#47 Posted by haffy (673 posts) -

This reminds me of the dubstep arguments lol. For some people it's, if you don't like it, everyone who does is a complete retard and they shouldn't be allowed an opinion.

Weird how much hate can be put on other peoples opinions. Especially considering this is a video game forum, where for the most part popular culture and media have looked down on people who play games.

Yeah, I agree. I don't find it funny at all but what's the point of belittling people who do?
#49 Posted by JTB123 (1046 posts) -

I voted B, used to like it until I watched an episode without doing something else at the same time. Kaley Cuoco though... dayum.

#50 Posted by SuperSambo (2860 posts) -

My friends hate it a lot more than I do.

I can have it on in the background or while I'm falling asleep, but otherwise I get too bored with my attention focussed on it.

D is too strong and the laughter track does drive me insane, so I picked C.
