So I'm running Windows 8 via dual boot on my 2012 MacBook Pro which has an Intel HD Graphics 4000, 8gb RAM, 2.5ghz dual core i5. I had been struggling to get GTA IV to work with Windows 8 via Steam (as have all kinds of people, including people on PC's running Windows 8). My computer meets all of the requirements to run GTA IV and can run all sorts of games at medium to high settings.
GTA IV would crash at the loading screen almost every time (it worked once). There are a ton of people with this problem running Windows 8 or Windows 7 (just check the Steam forum for GTA IV).
Rockstar customer support replied to me and said the game wont' work because according to my dxdiag I only have 32mb dedicated video memory. I'm pretty sure they're just blowing smoke up my ass and don't know the cause of the problem... I know integrated graphics cards are bad, but I could run GTA IV on my 3 year old laptop running Windows 7 which had a much lower integrated Intel graphics card.
In the end, I'm just curious about dedicated memory. I think I read something like the Intel HD 4000 "borrows" memory and pretends it has more memory or something. Would this really cause 1 game not to run? Keep in mind every other game in my Steam library works fine, including much newer and more demanding games.
