Looks like someone wasn't born in the '80s.

The Last Starfighter?

Cloak and Dagger?

War Games?

The Wizard?

I'm confused... is this supposed to be movies adapted from video games, or movies that have video games central to the storyline?

Regardless... Scott Pilgrim, Tron, and Grandma's Boy have little to do with either.

Halo: Legends? I mean it isn't that good, but I haven't seen a video game movie that really qualifies as good.

Have you seen Scott Pilgrim vs. The World? That movie is positively swimming in videogame. And it is gloriouz.

Yeah as far as "best movie to watch and enjoy" that is based around a video premise or contains video game references and content... I would say Scott is EASILY the best out of these.

Though war games, pheeeeew boy, that is a classic. Just watching it makes me feel like a badass and that I should hack into somewhere super secret so that I can get arrested and then break out and foil a plot to destroy the world just like Matthew Broderick. Though I haven't yet so... That's probably for the best.

Scott Pilgrim is winning? It was a fun movie but man, as an adaptation, that movie just isn't good. It throws most of the book's plot out the window about halfway through the film and Michael Cera just didn't capture the essence of Scott Pilgrim. Plus they leave a lot of the actual gaming scenes that were in the book out of the movie(Neil at the arcade, Lisa playing games after school, Scott playing psp on the couch ) I would've loved to see a directors cut of the film though, so that it doesn't feel so rushed at the end.

Back on topic though, I really enjoyed the first Silent Hill movie, but I can see where others have complaints about it.

i went for Other adaptation (not sure if it counts as original) Mortal Kombat: annihilation
Edit: And now i look like an ass who didnt read through all of the list to spot the third one labelled as mortal kombat. Regardless its not choosing a series but a single film and i feel annihilation trumps the original film for sheer greatness.

@live2brighteous: jealous. none of the theaters here had it playing at the time.

@mrsignerman44: I like Silent Hill, I mean it's not perfect, but as far as videogame movies go it wasn't bad at all.

@ben_h: first time I ever watched it, Super Mario Bros. started one of the worst trips of my entire life

Guess I'm going to need to watch Halo Legends...

@spaceinsomniac: yeah I'm a 90's kid, but funny enough I highly debated putting The Wizard on here. It was actually the first game related movie I ever saw, followed by the last starfighter.

Ryan: Hello and welcome to another time rewinding episode of This Ain't No Game. I'm your host Ryan Davis and this week we turn back the clock to 2010 with Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, starring Yake Yellynyall as the Prince.

I said Mortal Kombat because I like dumb kung fu movies.

Scott Pilgrim but I don't count that as a video game movie because it wasn't based on video games (I know your question accounts for that but they are different categories of film)

Mortal Kombat is my favorite adaption because it was true to the source material, was terrible in its own way but awesome in all other ways.

I love that movie, but including it in a list of "video game" movies is like including Inglourious Basterds in a list of "movies about movies".

Not to mention that is was adapted from the comic book series, and the main fighting storyline was inspired more by musicals than video games.

But, whatever, I don't really care that much. Good movies are good movies, no reason to pigeon hole 'em!

I can see you're point, but let me explain where I'm coming from here. Part of the paper this poll is being used for is going to compare movies based directly on videogames (adaptation) and movies that just involve/contain elements (original) of video games. Using the answers of this and many other polls I've conducted, I want to see whether a gamer audience is more likely to love one or the other. The reason I have movies like Grandma's Boy and Tron on this poll is because my initial fill in the blank q & a had quite a few votes for them. So far across all polls it's a tie between Scott Pilgrim and Wreck It Ralph neither of which were based directly off of a videogame. However the non-gamer polls seem to have standouts like Hitman, Prince of Persia, and Silent Hill.

War Games. I don't care if it's not a movie about a video game. It's close enough.

On the list, Scott Pilgrim, that movie is actually genuinely great.

But Mortal Kombat is easily second place because it's just the best kind of dumb fun

Is Hitman worth watching? It's the only movie on this list I haven't seen so maybe I'll fix that.

Hitman isn't amazing or anything, but if you catch it on tv or on the cheap I would watch it. It has some pretty cool action in it.

I don't think Tron qualifies for this, but my pick would have to be either Scott Pilgrim vs. The World or Indie Game: The Movie.

Out of that list, I think Tron: Legacy is the best movie, though it's definitely on the loose side of a "video game movie". However, more on topic, I have a huge soft spot for the Resident Evil movies(and by that I mean the live action ones, though the CG ones are cool). Bummed that it isn't on this list.

Scott Pilgrim is fantastic but i don't know how good an adaptation it is.

When i was 12 and MK came out is was a fine movie. Silent Hill is also fine as an adaptation. Its got the look and atmosphere of a Silent Hill game.

I would have to say Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. I consider it to be the only proper Street Fighter ever made (The Guile one and Chun Li one do not exist). Great animation, amazing soundtrack... its just plain awesome.

I loved all the MK movies growing up as a kid -- I even liked the few episodes of the TV series I got to stay up late and watch -- and I genuinely loved the Double Dragon movie. Seeing it as an adult DD is truly terrible, but as a kid I loved it. I also loved the Mario movie despite it really having nothing to do with mario, and I loved the Van Dam Street Fighter movie.

As far as genuinely good that I would suggest to adults, I really loved the Persona 4 anime. I really loved what they did with staying true to the series and taking their own twist on it at parts. Not to mention how they handled having a character that was a mute in game have talking roles in the show and it not being weird. Yu had some of the funniest bits of the show and often was a huge scene stealer.
