I believe it was last week's bombcast where the crew was talking shit about badminton. I might be mistaken because I've heard the same kind of discussion in other podcasts and it this point it all runs together. I don't know if watching the sport is any good as I generally don't like watching any kind of sport on tv, but it's pretty fun to play at a competitive level.

Is the hate of the game a matter of it being a bad spectator sport or the game not being fun?

More that it requires movement to play if i had to take a guess.

I love badminton, not on a professional level mind you, but it's great fun to play with someone of equal skill.

It can be ok to watch on TV, but the best thing about it is how easy it is to get into.

I like badminton.

I don't know if this has anything at all to with it, but it maybe it has something to do with the teams that were throwing their badminton matches in the Olympics last week to avoid going against the better teams early on..? I don't even know if the story was out before the bombcast so I may be way off base here.

I personally like badminton though, I find it to be fun :)

It just seems like a more laid-back, effeminate version of tennis.

I played tennis at school and due to class scheduling I ended up trying out badminton. I eventually stopped taking tennis and stuck with badminton. In the most reductive terms possible tennis relies on power while badminton relies on twitch reflexes. I don't think that makes it effeminate, but it for sure isn't laid back.

I like badminton. It was funny that during the same week on the Tested podcast Gary was going on about how much he loved badminton and enjoyed watching it.

Badminton is great. Whoever thinks otherwise deserves to burn in shit.

The guys don't seem to really like any kind of sport, maybe baseball, but I don't think I've ever really heard them discussing a lot of sport in a positive manner, and they usually joke around when doing quicklooks of sportsgames, so yeah. Badminton is awesome, only sport I've ever excelled at.

I was going to say how much I enjoy badminton, but I think this guy just won the debate.

Yeah, it would be sort of like comparing Football (American style) to Rugby, there are some similarities between them, but they require quite different skill sets. From the limited time I've had with playing Tennis, that sport to me is more about power and endurance, whereas Badminton is about finesse and quick bursts on a small area. Damn I miss playing Badminton sometimes..

I like badminton more than tennis, and I don't get why they talked shit about it :(

I like how it is more a game of technique and precision, whereas you can get by in tennis by raw power and reflexes.

That's why I like and if it seems effeminate, that's fine, I don't care. The best thing about it for me is that you don't have to play it seriously. Just get someone else, 2 racquets, a shuttlecock and let's see how long you two can keep it in the air.

Badminton is the shit.

I used to play it in school and none of the others could even touch me.

I'm probably shit now though.

I don't think anyone hates it really. The only time I've heard people say they hated it was when they were joking. I like Badminton if you are playing with other people who actually want to play. I remember in my gym class, my partner and I either played with people who had no interest in playing and didn't even try or tried way too hard and was too competitive. We maybe had one or two really good, close games of badminton and it is extremely fun. No offense to any tennis players, but I would prefer it over tennis

I remember when the tennis craze died off a little in the late 90s, indoor tennis was partially replaced by badminton courts, just because you could fit four fields onto one tennis court.

Just like volleyball and table tennis, it is a bit of a pussy sports which requires little risk taking to play and exceed. Not like cheerleading, which is the activity with the highest chance to leave the participants injured or permanently crippled.

Before I took my first badminton class the my only exposure to the game was from that scene in Disney's Robin Hood. The prof who taught tennis had encouraged students to take her badminton class to make them more well rounded and I did eventually give it a shot. I imagined myself smashing the shuttle all over everyone's face until I held the the racquet and hit the shuttle for the first time. You can't power through your hits in the same way as tennis so it was annoying at first, but I eventually got the idea of using your wrist instead of your arm and upper body. I feel the experience sharpened my reflexes and improved my tennis game. I still play tennis (played it last night), but I would like to introduce the game to the people I play tennis with. It would be fun to utterly destroy them.

I think it helped that people who had never played the game before could see the experienced players (they usually signed up for both beginners and advanced classes for more playtime) demonstrate hits and techniques on the first day to extinguish any false impressions the students had.

I've actually enjoyed the Olympic badminton. Lol ironically, thanks to the fixing scandal. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gave it a thought.

I always loved playing it in school. Felt good to hit the birdy and see it fly at just the right arch.
