In no particular order
1. Blade Runner
2. Empire Strikes Back
3. Dawn of the Dead '78
4. The Thing
5. Scanners

Probably....

Maybe add in City of Lost Children, Le Samourai, Eastern Promises, and the French Connection somewhere in there.

I really can't say, but I will mention some that I really like and can remember at the moment (in no particular order):

  1. Quantum of Solace
  2. Casino Royale
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy
  4. Dark Knight
  5. Transformers
Honorable mentions: Wall-E, The Matrix, Eagle Eye, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, and Wanted.

1. 300
2. The Godfather Trilogy
3. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
4. Thank You For Smoking
5. Batman Begins

Honourable mentions: Gladiator, Heat, The Departed (damn that should actually be in the top 5 somewhere), V for Vendetta

Now I'm thinking that my honourable mention list could keep going and that 5 is not enough, but it would take too much culling to get my top 5 perfected

1. Scarface
2.  Godfather trilogy - that only counts as 1 ;)
3. Goodfellas
4. Platoon
5. We were soldiers

I could make a different list on a different day, but those 5 movies (plus a few more) are definite "must have's" for me.

Man, this is gonna be tough. To make it a little easier for myself, it won't be in order.

- Dumb and Dumber (I think this is the funniest movie in the world)
- Forrest Gump (I absolutely love this entire movie. Forrest is my hero)
- Independence Day (I consider this to be like the ultimate summer blockbuster, it was my favorite movie as a kid)
- Cast Away (I think is like the most heartbreaking movie in the world, but nevertheless it is a great love story)
- The Sandlot (I feel like I'm going out on a limb with this one, but as I grow older, my appreciation for this movie grows as well. The way it captures the greatness and fun of childhood is remarkable)

Honorable mentions: Gladiator, Blow, Speed, Ace Ventura, Cinderella Man, The Fugitive, The Bourne trilogy
It's tough to narrow it to just 5. I'm not 100% pleased with my results, but it's decent enough. I will say that Lethal Weapon is my favorite series, but I don't think any one Lethal Weapon movie is in my top 5, though the original is my favorite.

There's no way I could order a top five list.  And my favorites are so volatile anyway that the list I'm about to give could be radically different if you ask me the same question tomorrow.

So, here we go.

-Fargo
-Leon: The Professional
-Pulp Fiction
-The Matrix
-Dark City

I could list another five films that consistently flutter in and out of the top five.  Other Coen Brothers films, Collateral, Trainspotting, Blade Runner, 28 Days Later.

There are so many films I love.  It's a really hard list to make sincerely.

I have found, with the Last Samurai, that people either really love it or they really hate it.  A few people I know would credit it as being one of the best films of its time, and others claim it's a piece of garbage.

The Princess Bride
An all-time classic in my book. No matter who I've ever seen this movie with, they've always enjoyed it. This movie has something for everyone. Sword fighting, comedy, castle storming, and true love.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
I'll probably catch some flak for this one, but I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson's films and this is my favorite. Undeniably charming, the humor may be a little too dry for some. A peculiar movie for a specific audience.

The Thing
My favorite horror movie of all time. Besides having the greatest beard in movie history (courtesy of Kurt Russell), the movie mixes horror and suspense to perfection without seeming pretentious. John Carpenter is a movie-making legend.

Shaun of the Dead
An absolute perfected mix of horror and comedy, this stands as one of the funniest movies of all time, in my opinion. Characters you can relate with, hilariously witty dialogue, and zombies. What more can you want?

Cool Hand Luke
Acting legend Paul Newman solidifies his place in film as one of the greatest. In my opinion, the most superbly acted movie of all time. Theres too many great things about this film. The only thing I can do is suggest that if you havent seen it yet, do it.

See... so, so many good movies out there.  How can anyone pick just five to be at the top?

Just from the two posts after my earlier one, there's Memento and Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid and the Princess Bride and Cool Hand Luke and Wes Anderson is another great writer/director (though I've gotten tired of Owen Wilson in his movies).

These types of questions are always difficult. Do I list the films I think are truly the best made, or the movies that I love and watch over and over? So here is my list in no particular order.

  •  North by Northwest - whenever it's on TV, no matter where it is in the broadcast, I watch it through to the end.

  •  His Girl Friday - best witty dialog ever. Undoubtedly inspired Moonlighting and Gilmore Girls scripting.

  • A Hard Day's Night - The Fab-four at their finest before fame, egos & Yoko soured everything. Filled with clever one-liners.

  • One, Two, Three - Cold war politics meets Coca-cola in post-war Germany.  Again, the witticisms are delivered with the speed of a tommygun.

  • The Thin Man - Nick and Nora Charles charming mystery caper full of colorful characters and relationships.

Films that have either appeared on my "Top 5" lists in the past or just missed being included here are Yojimbo, Star Wars IV, Hackers, Barfly, Aladdin, Casablanca, Tampopo, Annie Hall, The Parent Trap (1961), Raiders of the Lost Ark, Brigadoon, When Harry Met Sally, Akira, and To Kill a Mockingbird.

It is at times. That film has some of the funniest slapstick/physical humour i've ever seen.
