What shows did you watch as a kid that you now think are horrible

Kids are dumb. As kids we liked dumb stuff. Now that we have developed a thing called taste we occasionally look back at what we watched as a kid and cringe. For me that show was Beetleborgs, or to be specific Big Bad Beetleborgs.

Now as far as I know, pretty much all Super Sentai is horrible dribble that exists solely to sell merchandise (feel free to tell me I'm wrong) ,but Beetleborgs was a special kind of dumb. Beetleborgs was the show for kids who weren't smart enough for Power Rangers or VR. The excessive amount of horrible slapstick humor and the awkward way the universal monsters are worked in order to westernize the show leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. But I have to admit, that theme song is pretty great in it's own special way.

DBZ

Everything that I ever watched as a kid except Fraiser, Street Cents and Zed. I pretty much think all TV is terrible now.

All of them. Especially the ones with laugh tracks. Stop watching television programs for a few years, then go back to a show you remember liking that had a laugh track (if such exists for you): you will be immediately horrified.

Looney Tunes definitely still holds up though.

Power Rangers anything, a show called Mummies Alive, Rocket Power, Beyblade (or most anime, really). I could go on, but I won't. I remember Beetleborgs too, and you're right.

I still love DBZ and enjoy it unironically but I recognize that I'm not gonna get anyone to watch that show.

I don't think I can tolerate Beavis and Butthead anymore. That, and PeeWee's playhouse. That show with Ernest (Jim Varney) could probably still be good though. Only the TV show, not the movies.

@SethPhotopoulos: I love DBZ too but I came to understand why everyone dislikes it after starting the internet. That pacing is terrible. But DBZ is awesome regardless.

Pretty much any show I used to watch. Sure, there were some exceptions, but I liked some REALLY atrocious garbage way back when.

Count Duckula, Dumbo's Circus and Welcome to Pooh Corner. Under the Umbrella Tree holds up though. That show was amazing!!!

This is probably the correct answer. Even if I think all of the Shonen animes that used to be on Toonami are really stupid in retrospect, Pokemon is just a really crummy, low stakes anime without much to really recommend it. And it's still going on. On the other hand, I bet most of the first/second wave Cartoon Network original stuff (i.e. Dexter's Lab, Billy and Mandy), would still entertain me.

Ren and Stimpy was my favorite comedy cartoon when I was a kid, today it still inspires countless artist and animators to the point shows like Spongebob and Adventure Time wouldn't exist without it. Batman: the Animated series was my favorite mature cartoon when I was a kid, it defined the potential of the medium, is regarded as one of the best cartoons to ever exist and had a huge impact on film, comics and games.

But sure, plenty of stuff that I can laugh at now; Captain Planet, G1 Transformers, everything that wasn't Nickelodean really didn't stand the test of time lol.

I grew up on PBS Kids cartoons, and in retrospect, I am way better off because of that than the rest of you guys. Arthur, Magic School Bus, Wishbone, those shows are still amazing and hold up easily.

I can understand disliking the later seasons, but the first ten are still fantastic. No matter how bad the new seasons get, it will never ruin the early ones.

And of course they will end it at some point. Nothing lasts forever.

Speaking of Surge, that guy is some fucking Pandora's Box for Pokemon lore. If he's from the United States, and has a French pikachu, where the hell does the world of Pokemon actually take place? Also, if there were wars with airplanes powered by pokemon, where be all the other weapons? Is Pokemon actually some post-apocalyptic world where all military technology was destroyed by some utopian world government?!

Ghostwriter. I was obsessed with Ghostwriter. Gooey Gus gave me nightmares! I've re-watched the episodes since, and they're absolutely laughable.

Very rarely do any of my childhood t.v. favorites hold up. Shows like Spider-man, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and Ren & Stimpy are exceptions.

Yeah, The Simpsons seasons 1 through 8 or 9 are still the best writing in cartoon/sitcom history. In fact, if I were to train my kid on what's funny. I would show him/her those seasons on a loop and that would develop his/her sense of humor.
