After a tad lot of exclamatory questioning regarding the subject, I decided to put this in thread form. Lately, their has been a sudden surge of inept users flooding the forums with incredibly stupid threads and ones that have been completely inaproppriate. It seems like since the new forum design that this randomly started happening, albeit making ties to that is too much of a conspiracy theory for me to bother with. Lastly, I know their is deep irony within me making a thread most likely on par with the stupidity of the new users, but I have to ask: Am I the only one noticing this?

#2 Posted by Galiant (2193 posts) -

There are always new users. I haven't noticed anything different.

#3 Posted by DeeGee (2139 posts) -

E3 happened, the site got a huge boost in traffic.

That is all.

I don't mind it so much because usually they only hang around for a few weeks then leave or grow a brain. Unfortunately there's a couple of new users that are posting almost non-stop at the moment who are complete idiots. But I have faith that they'll find some common sense soon enough.

Don't sweat it. Mods are on that shit like Tiger Woods on white women.

You're not the only one to notice this, but it seems to have died down again.

Quite a few new users make silly threads. Most don't know (or sometimes understand) the rules, and some just like to see (read) reactions and try to push certain boundaries. It happens. Really isn't worth your time to create a thread and complain about it.

You think you're much better by making a thread to whine about people making threads you don't like?

#17 Posted by MideonNViscera (2257 posts) -

Good thing we have such a deep pool of old users to draw from when we want intelligent and insightful conversation! I mean a new user is basically an infant, right? They can't possibly know shit.

The first guy who ever registered to this site probably feels that way about every single one of you.

#18 Posted by ProfessorEss (7443 posts) -

I rarely notice whether it's a new user or an old user making a stupid thread.

We actually have this conversation like every 6 months. We seemingly always get a wave of new users semi-annually.

It's true. I do have that feeling with all of you.

And the staff has that feeling with me.

I'm pretty sure you're missing the point. He's not saying new users in general are stupid, he's saying that there are a lot of them that make asinine thread topics, moreso than usual.

Naw I got the OP's point. I think I got my threads mixed up though because I had a strong sense of elitism, but don't really see any in this thread. Maybe I should take my venom towards elitism to SRK instead haha

@CaptainCody I started coming around I believe at the beginning of last year, because I kept hearing how awesome this "bombcast" thing was. Listened to the GOTY deliberations and found that these guys actually knew what they were doing and had really solid (and funny) discussions on games. Signed up for the forums a short while later, and the community was pretty cool about welcoming me to the madhouse.

You sir, are nothing like those community members. I'd dare say you are, in fact, a dick.

2. CHECK OUT http://www.giantbomb.com (REMEMBER, IT'S NOT UP YET! SO KEEP CHECKING...)

3. IF IT IS, CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT... IT'S PAINLESS! IT'S FUN!

4. TELL A FRIEND

5. MAYBE ORDER A PIZZA OR SOMETHING? I MEAN, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE HUNGRY OR WHATEVER"

shoryuken.com. Not a better place to bitch, but a far more deserving one.

To be fair, a lot of the old timers are just as prickish in the forums, so I don't think it's fair to generalize New Users as the sole troublemakers.
#39 Posted by Gamer_152 (14091 posts) -

I remember a surge of new users making bad threads happening some time back but since then I can't say I've really noticed such a trend, some days you get a bunch of spam topics on the boards, other days you get almost none. Either way I'm glad our forums are much more junk-free than most other video game forums out there.

Maybe we should make some dumb threads of our own to balance it out a little?

All the DNF defenders have spawned some asinine threads. Generally, any threads complaining about review scores and ''critics being wrong'' piss me off.

No, you're not the only one. If you EVER have to ask yourself 'Am I the only one?' When it comes to something on the internet, The answer is always no.

Always.

Maybe you should stop acting like you are better than "new" people and do something constructive with your time... Just a thought...

#48 Posted by Trebz (487 posts) -

When sites get more traffic, their forums are bound to see some weird, dumb topics. Unless they're super-duper regulated (like Penny Arcade or Something Awful), creepy and trivial threads are going to pop up occasionally. Most of the new users (and I consider myself one) aren't like that, though. The Giant Bomb forums have it pretty good and I certainly wouldn't call them "flooded with incredibly stupid threads."
