Can't Afford The Color - Moving Mountains.
What's your favourite cover song?
You guys pretty much named all of mine, but here are another two personal favorites:
Metallica's cover of Blue Oyster Cult's Astronomy:
....And I'll probably get destroyed for posting this, but I do like Marilyn Manson's cover of "Working Class Hero":
- Sweet Child of Mine (originally by Guns & Roses) - Sheryl Crow
- Mmm Bop (originally by Hanson) - The Fabulous Pink Flamingos
- How Soon is Now (originally by The Smiths) - t.A.T.u.
- I Won't Last a Day Without You (originally by the Carpenters) - [unknown live performance I downloaded 7 years ago]
- I Say A Little Prayer for You (originally by Dionne Warwick) - Aretha Franklin
- Blinded by the Light (originally by Bruce Springsteen) - Manfred Mann's Earth Band
- Nothing Compares 2 U (originally by Prince) - Sinead O'Connor
- Because the Night (originally by Patty Smith) - 10,000 Maniacs
- Smooth Criminal (originally by Michael Jackson) - Alien Ant Farm
- Stairway to Heaven (originally by Led Zeppelin) - Dolly Parton
- I'm a Man (originally by Spence Davis Group) - Chicago "Transit Authority"
- Landslide (originally by Fleetwood Mac) - Smashing Pumpkins
- Got to Get You Into My Life (originally by The Beatles) - Earth Wind & Fire
But the best cover song I've ever heard has to be The Gourds' "redneck" version of the Snoop Dogg classic Gin & Juice. If you've never heard it, then you've missed out on a funky, funny interpretation of a rap standard. (the video is incorrectly labeled as Phish)
"man oh man... those gods turned into clowns. just look at em... amazing cover though."
"Amen to that, brother!"
" @Discorsi said:Indeed" obligatory....I was just about to go to youtube and look it up when I saw your post. This, my friends, is the ultimate cover. ""
i really like eric clapton's version of "knocking on heaven's door". and of course you can't go wrong with Jimi Hendrix's version of "all along the watchtower"
and to change it up a bit; i HATE My Chemical Romance's awful rendition of "Desolation Row". It's like they took a beautiful work of art and took a crap on it and re-released it.
" @SuperJoe said:You win. One of the best On the Spot moments, ever."This.OK, seriously, cover versions are never as good as the original. I can't think of one that I like. ""
Anyway, I also like the TV on the Radio cover of Mr. Grieves.
Nirvana covered Leadbelly's Where Did You Sleep Last Night. I love this song.
Death's cover of Painkiller by Judas Priest. This is one of the few covers I like more than the original, and I fucking love the original and Judas Priest.
Metallica's cover of Am I Evil? is pretty good too.
How did they turn into clowns? the metallicats parody thing they do was a joke too relieve pressure in their own realm of music many other bands have done it, next your gonna tell me they stopped being heavy metal when they stopped having long hair.
Tori Amos' cover of Eminem's 97 Bonnie and Clyde is pretty creepy.
Never mind the music projecy video
I wish I could find a good vid of her cover of Slayer's Raining Blood on youtube to share
Knockin on heavens door - Eric Clapton (not the guns and roses one)
or Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann
" @Ahmad_Metallic: How did they turn into clowns? the metallicats parody thing they do was a joke too relieve pressure in their own realm of music many other bands have done it, next your gonna tell me they stopped being heavy metal when they stopped having long hair. "relieve pressure by dressing up like that and acting like a bunch of dumbasses? they can get laid or shoot some ducks not turn into smiling pussies
"i listen to ALL their music and enjoy it and dont like to bitch, but just seeing them in those suits smiling like that makes me sick"Not to sound like a total dick (As I'm apparently wont to do), but if you listen to ALL their music you'd know that the Metallicats pictures are just hokey pics they made for the booklet inside Garage Inc for taking the piss out of themselves for releasing double album with nothing, but covers.
Hell, it says so in the pic on the back "Appearing nightly: The Metallicats. Covering all your favorite songs"
If you really wanna see a seriously un-metal Metallica pic, check this out.

Sorry for still being on a Metallica trip, but this video with audio of the Dan Band's cover of "Total Eclipse Og The Heart" awesomely coupled with a great edited video from a Metallica concert is pretty sweet.
