Which movie in your opinion has the best musical score?
Which movie has the best score?
Hans Zimmer's stuff from the 90's in phenomenal. A lot of his scores, while sounding samey (The battle music from Gladiator sounds a bit too much like He's a Pirate), all carry a lot of energy.
Musical Score? West Side Story
Licensed Music Score? Hackers...with The Crow right behind
Original Song for a movie? That Thing You Do from That Thing You Do
And the Incredibles must be mentioned even though I don't think it's as good as Laurence of Arabia, as well as, Alan Menken's work with Disney in the 80s-90s.
Besides the main 'theme' of Lord of the Rings, I didn't think the score was particularly special. That said, i've only seen the first two so maybe the last one is super special or something.
"How did none of you even mention Star Wars? What is wrong with you people?"I know. Everyone in this thread so far is going to get banned by MB for not saying Star Wars.
So on that note, I wholeheartedly believe that Star Wars has the best musical score of any movie in the world ever. BOOOOOOM!!!!
I only recently listened to T2's full score. Like the main theme is fucking amazing but the rest is good too. This piece of music from the first film though is probably my favourite by Brad Fiedel:
Batman Begins had a score that really stood out to me when I first saw the movie. It was powerful, but at the same time, it retained that sorrow and softness in Batman's heart for the death of his parents.
Gladiator and Black Hawk Down I both really like. Snatch as well has a great soundtrack, although it's way more modern and less spiritual than those I mentioned before.
"Lord of the Rings and the Dark Knight"James Newton Howard is awesome. You know whats better?James Newton Howard+Hans Zimmer make an amazing team, especially in The Dark Knight.
I'll go with Lord of the Rings followed very closely by Red Planet. Awesome score if you can get your hands on it. Also, the Red Violin is very good.
I personally really like the Lord of the Rings score, Star Wars, Black Hawk Down, Gladiator, and Kingdom of Heaven.
"Jurassic park anyone?"I second that opinion. John Williams makes great music for movies. Star Wars, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, Home Alone. Maybe I'm just a sucker for him but dang just look at his resume. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams#Film_scores
Maybe it's just nostalgia
"Danny Boyle's Sunshine is a personal favorite. You win.
I completely, completely agree.
Both of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies had excellent scores IMO, at one point very intimate and emotional, at another point thrilling and memorable. The theme played during the Bruce vs Ducard fight on thin ice in the first movie is one that is especially unforgettable to this day.
