So with Giant Bomb(gaming), Tested(tech) and now Screened(film) is Whiskey Media taking on CNET Networks(Now with BBC)? Because they have GameSpot (gaming), CNET(tech) and Movie Tome (film). And Whiskey Media is founded by CNET founder. Your thoughts?
Whiskey Media vs CNET
Didn't know that about the Whiskey Media founder. I think Whiskey Media is more concerned about expanding and building a bigger community, not necessarily competing with CNET, But who knows?
Gamespot sucks, I like Cnet, and I've never used movie tome (to my knowledge).
I would wait another year or so before I pick Tested over Cnet, because Cnet has been around a lot longer
" Gamespot sucks, I like Cnet, and I've never used movie tome (to my knowledge). I see Tested as a bit more personal and closer to it's audience. but yes, you are right, Cnet has been around the block... wat.
I've never heard of Movietome and generally use Rotten Tomatoes for my movie news, but now with Screened coming out soon, I plan on migrating sites.

Cnet is pretty good, and none of Whiskey's Sites are big enough to directly compete with bigger sites anyway. Even Giantbomb fills a niche, and doesn't compete directly with bigger sites that review more games and spit out more news faster. Tested doesn't review every product under the sun like cnet, and I screened will likely never be put on the same pedestal as more well known movie reviewers.
Until we hear about Dave selling or giving up on whiskey media they will not be like CNET. I used to like CNET til it was sold to some other company cause the original founder was cashing out.
Whiskey Media's websites are complely different from CNET sites. You go to Giantbomb for reviews and entertaining videos, while Gamespot has patches for 10 year old games. Same as the differentiation between Tested and CNET. CNET has your standered Antivirus/Spybot after you format downloads, and Tested has info and video content.
Whiskey's just growing, not trying to compete with CNET.
" @Axxol said:Totally, I feel like the Whiskey Media sites are a more personal, laid back feeling for people that are really fans of whatever their content is." Gamespot sucks, I like Cnet, and I've never used movie tome (to my knowledge). I agree on that, that it these sites do not compete on the same level and they are different. But to compete, you have to be different and the fact that they are about the same stuff. And the sad truth is that they can afford to be personal, because they are small enough. Once they "go big", things will have to change.
Whiskey Media will never be able to compete with CNet until they get their own Molly Wood, Natali Del Conte or Veronica Belmont. Hmm, Sara Lima might count but I don't don't know enough about her presence on Comic Vine to say for sure.
