Would love a dedicated music site from the folks at Whiskey Media (if it does happen and you need staff let me know, lol!)

This goddamn thread again?

#6 Posted by JCTango (1366 posts) -

Actually I'd like a food & drink recipe site with the whiskey media brand/style heh.

#7 Posted by AJQ8 (15 posts) -

how u guys feel if they make a music brand?

#8 Posted by benjaebe (2783 posts) -

I think this has come up before but some of the staff (I think Jeff) said that they've talked about it but there are a lot of challenges to overcome. Music would be a really tough sell just because of how many news items/albums/etc. come out on a daily basis.

#9 Posted by SomeJerk (3364 posts) -

Probably going to see a certain car site revived before a WM music one appears.

#10 Posted by Echo (391 posts) -

Don't think it would work. Last.fm and Discogs are already too established. But then again, stuff like that hasn't stopped them before.

#11 Posted by AJQ8 (15 posts) -

maybe they should name the brand ''Whiskey Music'' or ''Musicz'' or watever they should name it.

#12 Posted by Vinchenzo (6192 posts) -

They probably shouldn't waste their money putting up another site. Screened is blowing pretty hard right now, and Tested doesn't have that many interesting articles. AnimeVice... well that's a piece of shit (as all anime is). ComicVine sucks too, don't forget.

Boompa.com needs to be reinstated.
#14 Posted by Gabriel (4076 posts) -

And it would garner less viewers right now than Screened does, which is low.

#15 Posted by I_smell (3924 posts) -

I've told you- Tasted.com, that's where it's going.

But seriously though, the next site will be a men's review site for women's handbags. Obviously.

#16 Posted by s7evn (1072 posts) -

Music would be tough, especially since there's so much. It predates just about all other forms of media and there are often 10+ releases a week. If they were to go into music I think it would be tough to focus, since you've got large record labels and smaller indie labels. I guess there's just no way they would be able to cover a lot of what would be released without some serious manpower.

Dave did MP3.com and, in his words, it was an abysmal failure. Don't hold your breath.

nope it's gonna be a site about alcohol

dude i want beverages.

#22 Posted by AJQ8 (15 posts) -

since jeff gerstmann, and alex navarro are interesteing music, they should do it together.

#23 Posted by alternate (2719 posts) -

They had a taste of what it is like to carve out a slice of the movie site traffic.  Music is arguably even more competitive.  I think a slowing of growth and consolidation of existing brands would be best.

They already have their own sites they work on. The reason why Alek does some work over in Giant Bomb is well, maybe because during the week their is less for him to do about movies and tv?

A reestablishment if you will, bring everything back to square one smash it back together and build anew! I like IT!
#26 Posted by ChickenPants (934 posts) -

I'd hate for them to do a music site. It would be such a waste of resources in an already saturated market.

Can't think of what else I'd want from Whiskey Media. I love Giant Bomb. Screened and Tested are both cool. I'd appreciate a Food & Drink site but I can't see it getting a strong userbase. It's not exactly the sort of subject matter that fits with other Whiskey sites.

#27 Posted by MaFoLu (1859 posts) -

Whiskey Media porn site, coming later this fall.
You know that's what you really want...

Agree about AnimeVice, but the rest I dont.

ComicVine is fine for what it is, but I dont like that sort of thing. Tested is a great website with interesting articles/videos. Screened may be a little low on content, but the reviews and articles are always worth reading.
#29 Posted by Dylabaloo (1549 posts) -

No!! They should focus on making their current sites better, maybe hire more video producers so they can pump out more content. Tested has recently come into its own and has a very good vibe going, Screened is lacking in content but is still a site I like very much and Giantbomb is the juggernaut of the lot. Oh as for Anime Vice if it isn't going to make a big turn around cut that dying limb off.

It'd be called Screwed! :)

I think a music one would end up working out because of the community. Look at all the obscure stuff on GB.

I'm waiting for the tacos site.

@AJQ8: Please think of better names for your threads in future. No-one wants to turn up to a thread called Whiskey Media's new brand just to read your one-sentence guesswork.

To be fair, it's been dead in the movie industry right now for a few months until award season pops up and Alex and Matt will have stuff to say about it.

I remember hearing they were doing great numbers in the summer when tons of movies were coming out.

I would have stuck with the site if I could tolerate Matt.
#35 Posted by CastroCasper (1304 posts) -

I  made a post saying that it would be a great idea then a bunch of people reminded me of how horrible of a thing it would turn out to be. I think there is just simply too much music and too many variations of taste in music. Plus how would they have awesome video segments? After music videos it would just be some people sitting around a beat box.

Rorie is a douche?
I kinda like him, Alex too..

I could tell you all right now who is a douche but you're all on his dick at this moment so I won't have to.

Stop sounding like a creepy fucking robot with weird once-sentence responses that all contain the same exact idea.

Yeah, I just dropped from Screen about a month ago. Matt's attitude on the podcast is just... ugh. Alex is cool, but that site is a glorified blog and nothing more.
#40 Posted by jakob187 (21735 posts) -

Music would be an incredibly difficult thing to do without being relatively genre-specific.  Look at a site like Blabbermouth.  That only does metal, and it's pretty damn expansive!

If anything, I would say that they should do a site about kites.

This has come up dozens of times, and the staff has confirmed they're focusing on the sites they have for a good while.
#44 Posted by BjornTheUnicorn (358 posts) -

Whatever the next Whiskey Media site is, I'm curious if it will use the classic 5-letter word/4-letter worted or the new past-tense innuendo for making sure you don't have an STD while still being relevant to the main interest of the website.

#45 Posted by DystopiaX (5352 posts) -

Hey look, this thread hasn't been made a thousand times...and music always comes up. No, because it's too large of  a topic/doesn't make sense to cover from a product reviews angle.
