Guess what? If you answered yes, you're wrong. I have seen some on these forums who act like they type better than others because at some point in their lives, someone taught them to type incorrectly. Seems pretty backwards to me, but you can decide for yourself if that attitude makes any sense. If you'd like to actually be informed, read more on the subject!
Who here puts two spaces after every sentence?

I was prepared to come in here and give you shit, but now I don't have to. I'll reserve this shit giving for someone more needy.
Interesting. I don't know if I can untrain myself at this point though. See, I'm doing it RIGHT NOW!
" I don't know . but I know that some people put a space between the end of each sentence and the period . I know that Turbomonkey kid does it . It drives me crazy . I don't know why people do it . "I l i k e t o p u t a s p a c e a f t e r e v e r y l e t t e r w h e n I t y p e
I was actually taught to use two spaces after each period, but I tossed that habit out years ago. It's good to know I was right to do so.
All that said, it is quite amusing to see people get so exasperated over some double spaces, but I suppose typography is a pretty important study. It's good to know there are people making decisions on a standardization of our typing skills.
" @TooWalrus said:Woah. lol. I think that's the first time I've ever seen something typed like that (I know, odd.) It actually looks cool (and some 19th century literature professor just rolled in his grave.)" I don't know . but I know that some people put a space between the end of each sentence and the period . You know what's worse than seeing people type with two spaces between sentences? One that increases the space by one every time. I mean really why do they do that? It is only irritating those that are offended by people who care not for typography rules. I mean really, can't people learn from their mistakes? Do they even care that they are doing it wrong? Most will likely not care. Oh well, at least I thank you for informing me of this very important issue. What would happen with my life if I didn't know of this? I feel so much better knowing this so thanks a lot. I will make sure to take note of it in the future. I will feel like a better person if I make sure to type with only a single space. Seriously, I will.
When was that ever a thing? I'd never even heard of that until everyone started bitching about it like a week ago.
Seriously though, I don't care how you type but don't be an elitist about something if you're doing it wrong.
" I do it without thinking. I don't think I've ever been a snarky asshole about it though, which is exactly what that article is doing. "I can't remember the last time I read a Slate article that wasn't inherently snarky. For a while, it seemed like every article they published was essentially the editor pointing out a perceived flaw in society or pop culture and then proving their superiority by pointing out how unnecessary/stupid it is, no matter how innocuous the topic. It got so ridiculous that I haven't ready anything they've published regularly in about five years.
I really don't care what a bunch of fools belonging to some made up profession say about it. A civilized human being should use two spaces between sentences.
@alternate said:"I do. If this is wrong, I don't wanna be right. "
@Hailinel said:" Well they taught that shit at school when I learned to use a word processor and I am too old to unlearn it now. Live with it. "
@audiosnag said:" I do. Suck it. People take Slate seriously? "
Yup. What these guys said." @alternate said:

It's how I was taught. I'm not about to stop now because some guy I've never heard of on a site I've maybe heard of once or twice said so.
As an editor, I hate people who put two spaces after periods with a burning passion. In the world of published writing, it is always, always wrong.
What? Two spaces between sentences? That's crazy! Who on earth would do that? Two spaces is crazy. I mean, you'd have to be deranged to put two spaces in between sentences. Either that or some sort of space fool.
I was not even aware that this was a thing and my entire education is based upon languages. It's incomprehensible. Who would do that?
I'm a one space guy. I don't mind a two spacer though, it's the handful of people that deliberately don't space at all after a sentence that I correct.
" I had no idea this was even a thing. "This.
Is this an American thing? 'Cause Ive never heard about it before.
I think it's easier to read when their are two spaces between sentences. It looks nice too, the constant single space between characters needs breaking up. I want to know where the single space idea came from? I thought it was decided there should be two when people were still using typewriters.
Why would you put two spaces between sentences? That is stupid. You don't even need any spaces except as a courtesy for the reader. If I Write a sentence like this. And then a sentence like this. But keep on writing with no spaces.Do you see the point? The punctuation ends the sentence, while the capitalization starts the next.
All a single space does is make it easier to read, so why the double space? It's common in essays and such (being a history major, I know about double spacing), but I never really understood that either. A five page paper could easily be 2 and a half without stupid spacing, and the same idea is conveyed. I guess it is easier to read and gives mental queues to the statements.
I actually just got into a fight about this while working on a project with a few classmates. It blew my mind at the time when i realized everything other people were writing only had one space after periods. I was taught to double space after a period the same way i was taught to indent for a new paragraph. I didn't care if it made sense, i did it because they told me to and now it takes so much concentration to not do it.
