Mitch Hedburg, Gabriel Iglesias (probably spelled his last name wrong), The Amazing Johnathan, TIG, there's too many to list, Comedy Central FTW, and Live at Gotham owns.

Mitch Hedberg is good

Brian Regan is funny, Jim Gaffigan is always good

Nick Swardson is fucking hilarious. Mike Birbiglia has the joke about the bed that made me laugh and cry for 5 minutes nonstop.

Lately I'd have to say Patton Oswalt, with David Cross a close second.

Bill Hicks, Lewis Black, Dave Attell, David Cross and Patton Oswalt are some that come to mind. I've been listening to a lot of  Greg Giraldo and Mitch Hedberg lately.

The Hunter from Brutal Legend, Brian Posehn, is pretty hilarious too.
Dude, Demetri Martin is a whole lot of funny.
Jim Gaffigan on the other hand is a lot like Leno... Guy has to explain every joke so that you understand it. Comedy isn't supposed to be explained, that's why a good comedian can handle the heckler. Quick wit is essential.

Patton Oswalt is always a good answer. Here's an example of why. Bam.

@MajorToms: I assume you're talking to me. Most of his jokes are about very common things or are not very clever at all. Whereas good comedians would take a joke say... 3 steps... I feel that Dunham just goes 2. I sometimes am amazed when the audience starts laughing, thinking, "Wait, that's it? Where's the rest of the joke!?" I also feel that his form of comedy falls into the gimmick area, where the majority of people seem to gravitate. Same thing with the "Blue Colar" bunch. It's dumb, simple humor. They (Dunham and the Blue Colar Comedy guys) take their gimmick, then all they have to do is add one piece of associative humor, and it appears as if there's some interesting joke in there. The ignorant masses love those jokes. Same thing goes for Gallagher.

Bill Burr.

His special is classic & on youtube, there's a video of him destroying a heckling Philly crowd.  By the end of his set, the crowd gave him a standing ovation.  Amazing stuff.

Not a professional comedian but Richard Christy from the Howard Stern show has produced some of the funniest shit Ive ever heard. But I'd to say Artie lang  or Jim Gaffigan.

I saw Mitch Hedberg open up for Lewis Black about a year before he died.  He was absolutely awesome, if not a bit unintelligible.

Also, I'm so glad that no one has said Dane Cook.  It fills me with hope that there is some good left in this world.

Ahh, I have only seen some stuff from Dunham. Thought some of it was okay, but I couldn't see why someone wouldn't like it at all. If you're just hating him for the gimmick know that all comedians have their gimmicks, some are just far more obvious than others.

For stand-up comedians, probably Jeff Dunham, or George Lopez.
