Why is America The Greatest Country?
We Americans are lucky sons of bitches to have freedom. Our government is a circus of "legality" over torture and we have a Hawaiian guy as President. We had a monkey elected for 8 years and the son of Satan as his partner. The best of this, we elected them...TWICE!
So nation, why do you love America? Fond memories of this nation? Anyone who says something wrong about this proud country will be reported to Homeland Security!
Giant Bomb, Why is America the Greatest Country?
I hate America. I almost began a rant thread earlier today after I had passed a Portillo's (hot dog place). The drive-thru of cars almost ran 360 around the whole building... "almost". All I did was walk in and within three minutes had my food and was going home. Americans are all lazy fuckers (yes I'm a hypocrite). Proud to be an American? No, I am not. Is America the greatest country? Maybe once we kick out all the illegal immigrants I'll think about it.
Ha, freedom? yea right.
we can't even own property. my brother pays $150 a month in property taxes alone. that's called renting, not owning.
i don't know how america could possible be considered a "free" country.

Seriously though, America has been a spewing volcano of knowledge and innovation this past century. The fact that we kicked the shit out of the British over 200 years ago is pretty cool too... and the fact that almost every town is in the range of a Best Buy (a fact that you take horribly for granted, until you're forced to import everything.)
I really like this country more than any of the other countries I've lived in... except for the people IN the country.

"I guess we could always be bombing each other between states, in the middle of constant civil war, women incapable of showing any form of skin, children carrying AK-47s, all our forms of entertainment COMPLETELY censored rather than partially, our people sent to gas chambers because they didn't vote for this person over that person, and have the ability to talk shit on an internet forum like this?
"^Seriously. The internet is home to some cynical ass people. It ain't perfect here, but you could be doing a hell of a lot worse."There goes the misuse of the word "cynical" again.

I think America is one of the greatest countries in the world because almost anybody can come here and make something of themselves regardless of their past. Granted, the US is in pretty deep water with the deficit and with the amount of people getting over here illegally, but I think one day, things can be good again.
"I think America is great because on how its being developed by every type of ethnicity, culture, religion, and ideas. Basically America is a tossed salad in the world. "
America is the second greatest country. Canada for the win. We have all the similar benefits minus the world enemies and natural disasters. America is a powerhouse country though.

I really love America because we were one of the first countries to let comments and phrases like that be able to be said freely.
"America is the second greatest country. Canada for the win. We have all the similar benefits minus the world enemies and natural disasters. America is a powerhouse country though."You also have Bryan Adams, Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion, and Sum41 to fucking apologize for.

Because it's not? I don't think any country's the greatest country, but some of them are pretty great. I've only been to Canada and Germany outside of the US, and I enjoyed them a lot.
So, instead of learning all about ancient cynics, I just read the first couple of paragraphs, and I'm now going to assume that the nature of "cynicism" was somewhere along the line bastardized from its original meaning. Either way, merriam-webster tells me the way I use it is correct.
"LiquidPrince said:Indeed."Hey, I like Sum 41. "I liked the Chuck album. That is all."
"so because we give more freedom than absolute oppressive states, we're free?"There is no such thing as having complete freedom. Money is freedom though, so the more you have, the more freedom you have.

freedom is the absence of force, that's all.
"lilburtonboy7489 said:No. Freedom is freedom, but all freedom must have restrictions. Otherwise, you have chaos. Money is simply a form of mind control that humans created to keep people doing senseless shit for the rest of their lives in order to fulfill another's greed."so because we give more freedom than absolute oppressive states, we're free?"There is no such thing as having complete freedom. Rape, pillaging, plundering, murder, genocide...THAT would be ABSOLUTE freedom...

"LiquidPrince said:That has nothing to do with what the concept of freedom entails. Freedom is the lack of restrictions. and no, that's not absolute freedom. but at least it doesn't legitimize the systematic violation of rights.
"lilburtonboy7489 said:yes, like that."usually people say "freedom must be restricted to protect our...freedom""You mean like the restrictions on powerful people from exploiting regular people because they don't have enough power?"

But based on my time in America, it's pretty cool too.
America is awesome in the same way crappy movies are awesome and DragonBall Z is awesome. A shameful awesome, but awesome none the less.
"Snipzor said:Well there are two concepts here. Given freedoms, and variable freedoms. One of which is a balance that has been stuck in which one group cannot take control of another group (Let's just use the Christians and the Muslims in America as an example later) and the other is just a free market of freedoms. This of course is in the idea of social freedoms."lilburtonboy7489 said:yes, like that. ""usually people say "freedom must be restricted to protect our...freedom""You mean like the restrictions on powerful people from exploiting regular people because they don't have enough power?"
In the given freedoms, the Christians would have no power to make laws restricting the rights of Muslims. Even though they try (And even though they aren't allowed as seen in Article 11 of the Treaty with Tripoli).
But in the free market of freedoms, the Christians as they have much more power and money than the Muslims and can easily make it tougher for Muslims to enact their personal freedoms. Nobody is stopping the Christians from doing this.
So in one, there are groups given equal power and nobody can trump the other. It slowly moves forward as the idea of liberty increases, and liberal ideology grows to other territory. But the other is just a cycle of power, kind of like the 1984 explanation of the wars.
