It probably depends on how happy your parents were when you were growing up. My parents have a great marriage, and I want to get married. Somebody who grew up watching their parents fight all the time or get divorced probably don't want a marriage, understandably. What I want to know is how many people saying yes and no have had a serious girlfriend before. Because before I did I never wanted to get married, but now the idea doesn't seem too bad, in the far future at least.

Because you are making a firm commitment, among witnesses, on paper, that you are legally bound to that person for life. It's not a small thing. At least it's a giant statement and promise. It is supposed to mean you won't go grab another lady next year or whatnot. :P They change their last name to your's for God sakes.
