Am I? I thought I was pretty clear in my description of what they were wearing, I didn't realize anyone would read into it any other way. I am most defiantly NOT talking about those styles, but rather more like the two pics I posted above. Jen dresses (dressed) as in the first pic and Tina as in the second. I am most certainly not making a comment on all fashions and women, just two particular women and their respective fashions, nothing more.  I just find it interesting that one can influence the other in such a way, and that both seem to think its for the men in their lives. "
Bullshit.  Jen didn't walk around wearing evening gowns all day, and you as much as admitted that Tina didn't walk around in hooker attire.  So I'm trying to bring it to everyday wear. "
Hey, settle the fuck down. I'm not saying these women dress like this 24/7, I'm talking about when they dress to go out. You know, we're friends, we like movies, we like theater, we like food.

Sleep with Tina to make Jen jealous.  Like, duhhh.

@Fajita_Jim: If you're talking about just when they dress to the nines, then that could simply be personal preference changes, societal pressure, etc.

Neither of those girls is going to know what her "style" really is yet for a while anyway.

Ain't gonna happen. They're both waaaay too young for me. But they are fun to hang out with.

it could be because it's getting warmer out. have you thought about that? but seriously  bitches hate other bitches, it's just something about girls. girls have at least one other girlfriend to make them look pretty it's true.

Dude, I've known Jen since she was like 14. I haven't ever known her to dress in a sultry manner until here recently. It's odd and out-of-character for her.

I also don't think it has anything to do with confidence because Jen is a strong, successful woman in her own right. And coming from what she came from that's saying something.

It's not like she's short of men who would do anything for her at the drop of a hat.

If it had happened at a random time, sure I could see that. But Tina gets introduced to us and the three of us start hanging out, and then slowly Jen starts looking more and more like Tina.

I just hope she doesn't dye her hair. :(

I suppose it's not possible that your friend Jen saw Tina's way of dressing and though that she might like to change her look up?

It's not like Tina is the only (or first) woman she's ever been exposed to who dresses like that.

@m0rdr3d: @Fajita_Jim:

I'm just talking simpler.  Say Jen used to wear crew-neck tees, like maybe one of her boyfriend's t-shirts.  But now she wears womens' v-neck or scoop-neck tees.  They show a little cleavage, but it's not going all slutty.  Based on their ages, based on what I've seen from a few of my own friends, and based on how I've seen myself change over the last decade... I'd say that something about Tina is making Jen is simply realize she's a woman too, and maybe dressing like a woman gives her more confidence.  You can say she's strong - a woman can be strong, but that doesn't mean she's confident in how she looks, especially when compared to other women.  I'm sorry if that doesn't make sense.  But I've been there, on both sides of it.

And don't stress too much about Jen dying her hair.  Fact is, she probably will at some point (if she isn't already).  Doesn't mean she'll go with some crazy new color.  Women don't like graying before we're anywhere near middle-aged.

@Fajita_Jim: So the only conclusion you can draw is that it is a contest? I'm just not seeing where you're making this logical leap when it's more reasonable to assume that your friend just wanted a change in style.

" I've recently had to opportunity to observe a curious spectacle that I had caught hints of before, but never from a perspective this close. Long story short, here it goes:  So this girl I know and hang out with (but we're not dating) by the name of Jen has always dressed well, demure and modest. She's one of these women who you think are on their way to church until you realize it's Tuesday. She dresses like that, and always has.  Until this other girl, Tina, started coming around, that is. Tina dresses somewhat provocatively but not going so far as the 'fuck me' outfits. Pretty good amounts of cleavage, sometimes an exposed midriff, etc.   Suddenly, I see Jen start dropping her neckline and her skirts started going up. I watched the secret, unspoken contest between these two women play out for a few weeks and finally asked Jen something about it.   "We dress like this for you guys, it's not like we wear clothes like this at home."  I called bullshit. She's not dressing like that for any man, she's dressing like that because she's trying to 'out-do' Tina. Period. She's jealous.  Women hate other women, I swear. This is just one example of two women playing the one-upmanship game, but what kinda stands on my last nerve is instead of just admitting that they're competing against each other, they have to pin the 'blame' as it were on my gender.   Personally I prefer demure dress to sexy, it leaves more to unravel later.   So, GB, who is right? Do women dress sexy for men or to steal the thunder from the other women in the room? "
Women undress for men.

Nah.  The only logical conclusion -- deduced precisely, using Hegel's analysis -- is that she's a whore.

You're also missing a lot of information that I have. As I said in my original post: long story short. I kept the topic of conversation focused as it were so we didn't get caught up in all the little silly details that matter only when discussed in context of their personalities, which is a discussion too long and personal for this forum.

I simply cut the fat and boiled the discussion down to it's simplest format. I haven't told you everything and I'm not going to, but the point of this post wasn't necessarily asking for comment about THESE women, just about SUCH women. I was more looking for additional anecdotal evidence than for a discussion of these two women.
#68 Posted by d_breeze (223 posts) -

She could be dressing like that because she's perhaps gotten more confident and wants to be a little more revealing to show it
She could be dressing like that because she's found a style that she likes more
She could be dressing like that  to "impress" guys
She could be dressing like that to compete

There's really any number of reasons she could be dressing the way she is. Being confident doesn't automatically mean females where more revealing clothing as vice versa, it all depends on the individual.  I dress the way I dress because it suits me; I keep myself covered for the most part, it's quirky. and it's completely for me. But other females have there own reason... there's no one universal answer :)

Clothes go on, clothes come off. Never a miscommunication. You can't explain that.

#70 Posted by Getz (3099 posts) -

You and your friend are both right. Women are in competition with each other for the affection of men, and vice versa. Men fight wars, obsess about penis size, and generally act like fools all for the pussay. Women accentuate the bits men like with clothing, engage in inter-sexual subterfuge, and generally act like fools all for the dickz.

#71 Posted by Weltal (2274 posts) -

@Fajita_Jim: I'm talking specifics because you're very specific about the people you're talking about and as such I'd say that in order to talk about such women you'd have to prove that this case is indeed a valid case for which to start such a discussion. Of course I'm coming from this from a place that thinks that this is untrue and that you're reading far too much into this situation. In any case, you're correct, she is your friend and you would have a better point of reference for her actions I just think that you're incorrect.

Or to put it from my own experiences I have never known a woman that would drastically alter her appearance in order to compete with another woman and I think it's a silly, nonsensical, fictitious thing.

" @Fajita_Jim: But see, you're also being sexist by taking it that far.  We could simply be talking about the difference between:

This girl wearing a big, baggie guys-sized Horde JINX hoodie

or this girl wearing girls-sized Horde JINX hoodie

Do you see what I mean?  This isn't about trashy vs. classy.  At least when I talk about girls dressing to their confidence.  Trashy doesn't have to come into it at all. "

Come on that's cheating. Or I don't see what you mean. The clothes have very little to do with it in these two pics. The hot one has pigtails and make-up and she's done her nails and she's posing in a casual, friendly stance. The frumpy one has not bothered with any of that and her expression is hardly friendly. Perhaps that's what you're trying to point out.

I really don't get what your perspective is, but I agree that it's not about classy vs trashy. Tina is probably just giving Jen a confidence boost. However that is working psychologically it's probably for the best. I don't think the OP needs to worry about Jen turning into Tina, and if he's not involved why does he care anyway. Clearly he wants some of Jen, but maybe would he have a go at Tina if Jen calmed her down? WHAT KIND OF CRAZY SOAP OPERA IS THIS?

Edit: I also think that women probably dress in much the same way as men do in that they dress to a personal standard to which they have been conditioned throughout life. To dismiss women as an enigma is fatuous, everyone is complex.

@Fajita_Jim: They dress that way so they can outdo the other women and thus become the center of attention from the males

so its a mix

Feel free to disagree, I'm not here to beat my opinion over anyones head. I just find it...strange...that when women want to dress to impress a man so many of them seem to think there's only one direction to go in: more skin.

Perhaps that's more of a fashion industry thing, perhaps not. I'm not female and don't understand fashion anyway. I'm either in jeans, boots, a T-shirt and (during cold months) a rawhide coat, or a 3-piece. No real in-betweens.

So yeah I'm a fashion dud, but I love a dress on a woman. As far as I'm concerned, save the skin for the lingerie. But that's me....not you.

@Fajita_Jim:  Good call, Women dress like as an unspoken competition. i know this because I have been backhanded twice....no THREE times since the 4th grade do to looking at boobs and ass and I'm a sophmore now. They don't do it for the men. They think we are all pervs and pornhounds.

You mean wife beaters?

I don't wear wife beaters because they're not flattering to me. In fact, I don't wear tight clothing at all because it does nothing to show my strong points. My muscles are defined by default, because I'm so thin. In fact, I have a 6-pack without hitting the gym a day in my life because I just have no fat to cover it up.
