Would you guys pay for a DVD that includes some Giant Bomb content? It could be the Endurance Run, a ''best of'' quick look selection or something along those lines. What would you guys like to see and how much would you pay?

Or do you not care at all for the idea?

Thanks.

It would be weird, it depends. Considering all the content that we get regularly, it would feel wrong to strip down some of it and offer it as a DVD. Especially considering that's essentially what subscribers pay for. A lot of the stuff that would be awesome to have on a DVD would be the subscriber stuff. Honestly, I don't see it as a viable product.

I would not; I'd have no need for something like that.

Actually, that's a really neat idea. If it was priced just right this could be really cool!  Hell, I would get one! I mean, price-wise it would depend on the content.  I mean if it was the latest Endurance Run and a best of quicklook for 2011 I would do around 10-15 bucks.  They could do this annually with the latest endurance runs and stuff too...

So instead of easily streaming all of that HD content to my TV I can instead deal with the hassle of having it on a DVD in lower quality? No. I don't think that I want that.

The odds of them getting rights to all the games they Quick Look or Endurance Run is slim to none and it would be fairly expensive. Besides, they are a games website, not a business.

I doubt an endurance run DVD would ever happen becouse of all the legal red tape and deals they would have to make but if the ever did a behind the scenes or documentary of Whiskey Media I would definitely buy that.

Wouldn't that just be a mix of the Mailbag and How To Build A Bomb?

I'm not criticising at all, just wondered what you meant exactly.

Considering we have access to all the content as is no I don't see how. I'm sure there's somebody who's going to have an insane backup after all the old stuff is no longer available, but by then will you really care? I don't think I will care by the time this stuff has left the cloud.

Most of the content you mentioned in the original posts (Endurance Run, Quick looks) use assets from other copyright holders. This is fine and falls under "fair use" for Giant Bomb, however if they were to make money off of it they would have to obtain a license from the copyright holders.

@wemibelec90: Does that mean everyone who sells DVDs with copyrighted content on them has to get the rights to all the games/movies? How do people like AVGN and Nostalgia critic manage to do it and why do they do it? Is it worth the time?

A full length/well produced updated behind the scenes would be worth a purchase. Hell they could put the How to Build a Bomb and Mailbags in as bonus features since that stuff is already done. The potential for what they could do is amazing. Imagine a Spinal Tap style commentary track.

If I'm going to purchase something useless like that I'd rather it be something cool like a Giant Bomb Betamax or Laserdisc.

@NekuSakuraba: They remove the copyright content. If you actually buy those you will see a lot of stuff cut out so they dont break the law. Most of their DVDs are stuff they did without copyright content.
They cannot legally sell copyrighted material as their own and selling Quick Looks and what not on DVD would be a massive breach. The game companies would more likely care if that happened.

This questions has actually been asked a bazillion times already, but yes I would buy it. Would it ever happen, though? No. They cannot legally sell most of their content. Thus is the way of it. I personally wouldn't mind them making a DVD of pax panels and what not they do without the copyright stuff, but I don't know how much appeal there would be for that as that stuff is dated immediately.

I dont think anyone at Giant Bomb believes in physical media with the exception of laserdiscs.

So no I would not buy a DVD but I would buy a Giant Bomb laserdisc.

The other problem, specificly with Endurance Runs is they would be competing with the product in question. For instance would you buy Chrono Trigger if you could buy a Chrono Trigger endurance run DVD? This is why you have to go through all the rigamarole when watching a Rifttrack DVD, and why all MST3k episodes aren't available.

Download the episodes in HD, put them on a DVD (it's about the same quality, maybe worse), and make a custom sticker.

Done.

The site is archived. Why would you want a dvd? Presumably I guess to watch it on your TV maybe? But then why not just by a video-out for your computer/ipad. That would be have more uses in the long run. Sorry, but I just don't get it.

Isn't most of the material available for free? And that which isn't can be seen if you subscribe. Why would I need to buy an additional video? Archive purposes? I don't think I'll need to watch 99% of the videos here more than once. I've never needed (meaning worth money to see) a video review of any game. Besides, archiving is Whiskey's responsibility, not mine. Finally, I don't need more clutter in my life, so every wasted DVD I own is less space for other things.

The only thing a DVD would be good for is an interactive, multimedia adventure based on the 2011 GOTY videos. For everything else VHS is fine, all that extra space would go to waste.

Sell me cool shirts, posters, and some damn coffee mugs. No DVDs of stuff available through my membership.
