Would you eat a meal of insects if it was well prepared? Much of the world gets the majority of their protein from insects, but I can't stomach the idea. I hate bugs.
Which is completely hypocritical because lobster and shrimp are two of my favorite foods.
But yeah, apparently they're gonna try and market the meat in the US: Story.
Ugh ugh ugh.
Would you consider eating insects?
We've all ingested a fair amount of rat feces, too, but I still would not suggest adding it to your grocery list.Bugs can be super tasty and you've definitely ingested a buttload of them by accident.
Yup, I now change my vote from "only if starving" to the first option. Thanks.man... when i think of people eating insects my mind wanders back to this video of man vs wild.....
Considering that insects are pretty closely related to crustaceans (not necessarily evolutionarily speaking but in the sense that they are both invertebrates with hard outer shells) I would definitely eat insects if they are prepared correctly.

"Dry" insects aren't a problem for me: crickets, ants and the like. I've had both and they don't taste bad at all.
The insects with more obvious internal organs are another matter.
If they have been thoroughly cooked though, it wouldn't really matter how "obvious" the internal organs are. I mean protein is protein, whether they are internal organs or external muscle.
I haven't eaten a meal of them, but I've eaten insects. I've eaten several dry crickers, and dry crickets coated in chocolate. I ate a few ants as a kid just 'cause.
Yeah, bugs creep the hell out of me--I can't stand to look at those repugnant monsters! If they stay away from me, I'll promise not to willingly eat them.
Not nitpicking but I went for C. but more the mind set of I'm fine with it before I get to the point where I'm starving and start wasting away.
A meal of them ? Nah, no matter how nicely prepared but I'm a really picky eater when I have the choice.
And don't forget, eyeballs are an excellent source of sodium. Just pretend you're eating a 'Gusher'....cause you will be.
Very true, but they tasted great, and that's what matters to me when it comes to food.@wolf_blitzer85 said:
I had the chance to try those, but they looked disgusting.Yeah I had deep fried crickets once. They were delicious. Tasted like crispy peanuts.
Edit: Well that sounded kinda dickish, but I think you know what I mean. Now they did have these giant grasshopper lollipops too. I didn't try those.

I have tried a selection of different bugs in China. The best was the fried scorpion, tasted like KFC chicken skins. The absolute worse was some kind of larvae or cocoon or some shit. Tasted like crispy toe nails on the outside and was warm but soft on the inside. Absolutely disgusting. My girlfriend had actually chosen it because it looked least like a bug- but it was the absolute worse.

At least you can tell people you had some deep-fried crickets, even if you end up not liking it.@CL60 said:I didn't want to take that chance!Very true, but they tasted great, and that's what matters to me when it comes to food.@wolf_blitzer85 said:

@CL60 said:The closest I've gotten is chocolate covered crickets, because those didn't look as bad. Fuck that dude... Insects... Ugh... Let the livestock have the insects, I'll stick to my steak thanks. I'd rather end up eating all veggies and tofu, if there is shortage of livestock, over eating bugs...

I've eaten quite a few insects in my day all raw and I think all living. Some are better than others.
Ants taste like sour apples (and if you taste sour apple before you bite that means it peed in your mouth). It's also why they cover them in chocolate, because it's balances out their natural sourness.
The crunch of a beetle is too disturbing to even have time to taste anything.
Moths taste like dust.
I'll let you all guess what a grasshopper tastes like.
I've had ants, and I liked them. They're sweet (at least, the ones I had were, and they weren't chocolate covered), and pretty easy to get past the disgust of thanks to their size.
I won't ever eat an insect any bigger than that, though, unless you count lobster, shrimp, and the like. I even get a little weirded out eating lobster when I think about what they are, or if I flip one over to it's most insect-looking side.
Beat me to it. Depends on the insect. Also i showed that video to almost everyone i know, they were all really grossed out by it. I find it cool.man... when i think of people eating insects my mind wanders back to this video of man vs wild.....
I have eaten insects before when I was younger but cant say I'd do it again.
Edit: oh and hope you guys know if you count arachnids or whatever I believe lobsters and crawdads and whatnot count. I was referring to more traditional insects before but just thought I'd mention that =P
If you have eaten shrimp and/or lobster, you really are pretty much there, no? Not to mention escargot. It would take some prep, but I bet an insect side dish of some sort might honestly work
And I have eatan grasshoppers before in a mini survival seminar, not bad.
Till proven need, hard to think of insects really on the menu
