That's entirely dependent on the character and not at all dependent on their sexuality. But yeah.

Oh well this is going places.

Not sure if I'd call it 'story-driven' but I have played through Bare Knuckle 3 as Ash.

#5 Posted by Inkerman (1451 posts) -

I'd be less comfortable, but I wouldn't not play the game for that reason.

#6 Posted by Winternet (8021 posts) -

Sure, why not. If the game is actually good.

#7 Posted by falling_fast (2235 posts) -

sure, why not.

#8 Posted by Slaker117 (4842 posts) -

I would play a video game starring Omar Little, yes.

#9 Posted by kingzetta (4307 posts) -

So you mean every time I play as a lady in a Bethesda or Bioware game?

#10 Posted by Canteu (2821 posts) -

If a story point was that the character was gay, then it's probably some romance dating sim or some shit, so probably not since i'm not interested in that type of game.

If it was like Gears of War 4 and hey Marcus likes dudes! Sure, wouldn't make a spot of difference.

Why wouldn't I?

#13 Posted by countinhallways (632 posts) -

My playing the game or not would depend entirely on the quality of the story and characterisation, not on the sexual orientation of said characters.

#14 Posted by GTCknight (698 posts) -

If the game is good then the game is good.

Nothing more to it really.

#15 Posted by Brendan (7817 posts) -

Wouldn't matter to me either way. At least it would change up the usual "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus!" banter usually seen from relationships in games.

No because I am a raging homophobe and I have an irrational disgust for anything that isn't heterosexual.

How do you know that most game protagonists aren't already gay?

#19 Posted by TaliciaDragonsong (8699 posts) -

Sure.

#20 Posted by morrelloman (608 posts) -

I said yes but the better question is How Gay would a main character have to be to make you not play?

A) Kind of Gay

B) Really Really Gay

C) Super Duper Gay

D) Adam Lambert

Wasn't there a post about this a few months ago?

No I wouldn't.

#23 Posted by MildMolasses (3221 posts) -

My Skyrim character is gay and that game is just fine

#24 Posted by TheSouthernDandy (3881 posts) -

Depends. If that was just part of the bigger story then sure. If a lot of the game focused on gettin all sexy time with dudes then no. Not my thing. Unless it was Garrus or Tom Hardy then sign me up!

What he said.

#26 Posted by Village_Guy (2599 posts) -

If they throw gay sexy time in my face all the time for no real reason then no, if it was subtle or an important part a story arc then sure. It all depends on the execution.

#27 Posted by Cloudenvy (5891 posts) -

Sure? if the game was good.

#28 Posted by Vodun (2370 posts) -

This again?

#29 Posted by Rattle618 (1463 posts) -

I would if the game didnt force me to watch some dude on dude action.
So I probably wouldnt play an rpg or any sort of game that has strong personal story elements related to the main character´s sexual interactions, but everything else would be fine. For all I know many of the characters I´ve played over the years are gay.

#30 Posted by Jayzilla (2564 posts) -

Umm, it depends on what the story was about. If the game was about hetero or homosexual relationships I wouldn't play it. That would bore me in a game. If the duder/duderette happened to be gay and it wasn't about that at all, I wouldn't care. I think games about relationships no matter orientation tend to be very stereotypical, so I don't play them(I am looking at you BioWare. How stereotypical can you be?).

#31 Posted by prestonhedges (1965 posts) -

I've played a Final Fantasy game, thank you very much.

#32 Posted by MideonNViscera (2257 posts) -

I've been playing Final Fantasy for years.

#33 Posted by Mesoian (1574 posts) -

Sure. I played Fear Effect 2, good game.

Yep. Would you play a game with an openly homosexual protagonist (Sept 2011)

My answer is still the same, straight, gay, and even flaming gay, it doesn't matter to me as long as the game is good. My sexuality and a pretend digital character's sexuality have nothing in common. One won't impact the other.

#35 Posted by TwoLines (2813 posts) -

Yes. Why the hell not? Why on earth wouldn't I?

#36 Posted by laserbolts (5324 posts) -

I'd rather they weren't gay but I'd play it anyways.

#37 Posted by Animasta (14698 posts) -

I'm playing Persona 2: Innocent Sin so...

#38 Posted by NTM (7411 posts) -

I think you already can. Ever heard of Fear Effect? Or especially the prequel? Anyways, besides me totally forgetting about those games (though I haven't played the second which is where I guess it starts), I would have to say it really depends. If we're going to get little glimpses of him having sex with another male, or something along the lines of Ezio but being gay, probably not. If it was subtle, maybe. I think I'm fine just playing straight characters with gay characters in it as well (GTA). I think I'd rather play a lesbian than a gay guy also if I had to choose.

Yes. The exact same question, I believe.

And no, of course I wouldn't. Don't be ridiculous.

#40 Posted by captain_clayman (3322 posts) -

considering in most games the characters sexuality doesn't really make a difference, sure.

#41 Posted by JustKamToo (685 posts) -

Only if I get use a gaming pad, mouse and keyboard seems to straight.

#42 Posted by McAwesome (53 posts) -

If the game doesnt treat it like something edgy, and doesnt force it in every scene, then yes,but preferably i'd play lesbian, because, given the choice, I play female characters.

#43 Posted by TehFlan (1944 posts) -

Sure?

#44 Posted by MikeinSC (910 posts) -

Not sure why I'd care about the sexuality of a video game character. Video game sex is just creepy as all heck as is.

#45 Posted by TobbRobb (4666 posts) -

Hurr Durr, I hate the blackhomolesbianjews. I can't play anything that isn't a giant pulsating macho dickhead. Hurr Durr. I need my games to remind me that I'm "normal" anything suggesting otherwise or making me think sucks my ballz.

#46 Posted by DeanoXD (608 posts) -

i answered yes, but the real answer is no. if that was to happen that's how the gay gets you if play as one of them even in a video game, the gay would come through the vibrations in the controller. by the time you were done with the game you would be helping your sister buy shoes and decorate your home, its true that how it happens once the gay gets you.
