Sometimes, I play in a band. We're called the British IBM - The name was taken from a line in the BBC drama called Micro Men, all about computing in the UK around the 1980's. So Acorn / Sinclair computers, all of which were based in the city we come from.

We're releasing an album REAL SOON, but first we released a cheeky single while everything else was getting finalised. It's called Animal and you can download it for FREEEEEEEEE when you sign up to our mailing list. Word. It's also on iTunes, Spotify, etc etc.

We also had a little video made for it too, which is all 8-bit and shit. Watch it HERE DOGG.

Let me know what you think! If you love it, then please let people know. If you hate it, then please slag my bass playing off.

I watched the video expecting to hate it but damn you guys are not bad. Keep it up.

@DavoTron: Pretty cool song and video! Are your guys' heads supposed to be similar to George, Ralph, and Lizzie from Rampage?

#5 Posted by Ravenlight (8057 posts) -

@DavoTron: Hey that's not half bad. My only complaint is that your "the" isn't capitalized. Tossers :P

You guys are really good. I would totally download your album illegally.

And the video was rad. Nice job!

@DavoTron: I really like your stuff! If you guys ever come to Ireland for a gig let me know, I'll be there :D

I primarily listen to hip/hop, so I am no expert, but man you guys seriously have some talent, very cheery sound and while it might not be that original, it is (to me at least) a very enjoyable and well crafted song, oh and the video is pretty great too! You just got yourself a new fan

Not my cup of tea but it sounds like something my friends would listen too, so it must be half decent!
Love the clip.

Not really my taste, but the song was pretty good to be honest. I really liked the video.

#11 Posted by JohnLocke (350 posts) -

Much better than I was expecting in all honesty.

Kudos to you and your band sir.

#12 Posted by DavoTron (169 posts) -

Wow... thank you so much. I really appreciate the feedback. You've made me feel all fuzzy.

We've really thrown ourselves into this album, and started working on it back in February. Can't wait for the full thing to be released... we've had all manner of guest musicians in doing "real" music like Cello and lap steel and I can't believe I'm playing on it at all.

@Ravenlight: Funny you say that. That was a deliberate choice that I did ask about. The excuse was "much like the iPod, we have a lower case 'the'". My excuse of not knowing too much is "hey man, I just play bass!!".

Are my ears stupid or does it sound like 8675309?

Awesome job!

I've just listened. Wow. That's... pretty uncanny.

#16 Posted by BestUsernameEver (5026 posts) -

You guys aren't THAT bad.

#17 Posted by BraveToaster (12636 posts) -

It was pretty good. Definitely better than most of the bands who post threads about their songs. The music video was funny too.

#18 Posted by Elazul (1343 posts) -

That sounded alright. The chord progression was kind of repetitive and overall it was maybe a bit "pop" for my taste, but it certainly wasn't bad.

#19 Posted by ClairvoyantVibrations (986 posts) -

Pretty sweet. I like it.

#20 Posted by Aetheldod (3914 posts) -

I´ll be honest .. I did not liked it but , thats just me and my musical tastes , but great for you duders that you are doing this :D and wish you bests of lucks

#21 Posted by jakob187 (22346 posts) -

I made it through the first five seconds. Not my style. Hope things go well for you guys, though.

#22 Posted by ZombieSpace (286 posts) -

This sounded just like every other pop song out there, but i wish you well.

Hopefully we can become one hit wonders :)
#24 Posted by Paindamnation (836 posts) -

You guys look like you took the tropes from the beatles, and an 8 bit style. Not particulary my taste but not bad.

#25 Posted by ZeForgotten (10368 posts) -

That's not bad at all!

#26 Posted by Little_Socrates (5834 posts) -

For a song named "Animal," you sure come across as a lazy cat more than a wily fox or raging gorilla. It's...fine, but the lyrics and music are so laid-back and simple that I couldn't possibly get excited over it.

#27 Posted by DavoTron (169 posts) -

Thanks for the feedback guys. I like to think it's one of those "intentionally" radio friendly tracks. Not too long, easy to digest.... But I sure understand if it's not to everyone's taste. Maybe our next track will be a little more to your liking :)

#28 Posted by Akeldama (4335 posts) -

Totally competent if a little boring.

#29 Posted by LD50 (430 posts) -

dammit. I can't find anything wrong with it.

#30 Posted by Little_Socrates (5834 posts) -

Maybe it's TNT, but I'm convinced it needs a lot more "HEY"s.

#31 Posted by Athadam (760 posts) -

I really liked it - but the guitar was somewhat repetitive at times. But the sound is great and the singer has an amazing voice. Props!

#32 Posted by hidys (1063 posts) -

That was pretty good.

#33 Posted by TheDudeOfGaming (6116 posts) -

That was surprisingly good.

Damnit!! Back to the drawing board we go...

Thank you!!

Thank you all again for your kind words. I really appreciate you taking the time out to listen to it.

I though it was great. Keep us posted about the album.

Hey! Pretty good actually! Not my kind of music but I still can apprecciate when something is actually good. Congrats! Keep up the good work.

#40 Posted by DavoTron (169 posts) -

Hello Hello Hello.

I want to thank everyone for taking the time out to listen and watch the video and comment. It means a lot to us and we are grateful.

Now that mushy stuff is out the way - it's time for single TWO. It's a real video this time, feature a cameo from game author Magnus Anderson and Retro Gamer columnist, Iain Lee. It's a little different to the first single, and I'm really proud of it.

I've popped the video below (paying homage to a sequence in Micro Men), and you can get the track from bandcamp right here. It's also on Spotify and should be on iTunes real soon too. Let me know what you think!

I like the music in the second video, but...

You're not the singer, are you?

#42 Edited by DavoTron (169 posts) -

I'm not, no. I sense you have comments about the singer... ;)

I really dislike voices like that. Way too whiney for me.

#44 Posted by DavoTron (169 posts) -

Understandable. You can't please them all :) But thank you for listening. I really appreciate it.

#45 Posted by M_33 (531 posts) -

I really like the two songs you've put out so far. Consider me a fan!

Micro Men was a great show. The guy who played Sinclair was so effective at being this genius of a man with dire anger management issues.

Oh yeah, the song was pretty good too. It's a little more mellow than what I usually listen to, but it has a nice hook to it. May your band take off like IBM did.

#48 Posted by wumbo3000 (1100 posts) -

That was surprisingly really catchy. I really liked it! This kind of music is right up my alley anyways.

I won't compare you to Radiohead just yet, but I did get that vibe. Maybe because both of you guys are English? Albeit, you guys seemed much more happy.

#49 Posted by Blearious (40 posts) -

Great job! Love the organ in the background. The video's hilarious too!

Ha, funny you say that... I'm supposed to be emulating him in the video from the scene from Micro Men. Our video is a homage to the scene of them working to get the Acorn up and running for when the BBC show up (played in our video by Magnus Anderson, who's writing a book on the history of the UK Gaming Industry and Iain Lee).
