@Contrarian: Soap was pretty damn good. A little eccentric for my taste.

It was the utter eccentric nature of it that cracked me up ...... the ventriloquist dummy everyone thought was real and the alien baby were highlights for me.

In terms of sitcoms, I suppose we could include the awesome that was The Young Ones, Bottom snd Blackadder. Then there would Fawlty Towers. Finest Britiush work.

I used to watch British sitcoms on PBS when I was a kid. My favorite was The Good Life. It was called Good Neighbors in the U.S..

Those were the days apparently when many British sitcoms were translated to American. I think some were:

Man About The House - Three's Company

'Til Death Do US Part - All In the Family

Love Thy Neighbour - Love Thy Neighbor

Robin's Nest - Three's A Crowd

Two's Company - The Two Of Us

Now we get remakes like The Office, Life On mars, Skins and Shameless. The British do get many things right in entertainment and then get copied.

If were talking traditional sitcom with a crowd/laughing track is has to be Married with Children for me with Fraiser in a close second along with Home Improvement and Step by Step. Why? Mainly cause I grew up with them and nostalgia has taken over my answer.

Fresh Prince. That 70's Show a close second.

As long as were on the subject of sitcoms, allow me to share this anecdote: "Friends" has always pissed me off to no end.

As a child I would literally break things If I even heard the theme song. I have never seen anything of it other than 6 douchey people doing douchey things for 30 minutes at a time.

In closing: Fuck Friends.

We're not so different you and I, in fact this sounds almost exactly like how I think of Friends.. Without the breaking stuff mind you.

Fuck Friends indeed.

And I used to watch Chef! with Lenny Henry in it sometimes. It was only on really late at night on PBS here in Phoenix.
