NO NO NO NO NO. Tell me this has internet. I'm kind of glad my Zune 80GB has been broken for two months! If it has internet, I'm kissing my intentions for an iPod touch goodbye.

DO WANT.

Microsoft, take the fucking plunge and release it in the summer, I DO WANT THIS.

#4 Posted by The_A_Drain (3910 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

It might be real, but I still don't like it.

#5 Posted by Fr0Br0 (3066 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

Unless the support for the XBLA games are large and worthwhile, it's going to be hard to break the Itouch's use of apps.

#6 Posted by Jayge_ (10222 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

I'm excessively pleased with my Zune 80... but if this is cool enough I'll pick it up anyway, FUCK IT.

#7 Posted by Maxszy (2058 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

So a dock, no HDMI? Bleh, that sucks. Would have been able to be able to plug it in anywhere that could utilize HDMI. Portable HD content player. But if its all through a dock, that makes it more of a pain in the ass. *sigh* :-/ Maybe...maybe... but they also really REALLY need to fix their software before I jump on board the Zune bandwagon for a second time.

#8 Posted by jNerd (1999 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

OMFG, the iPod Touch is fuckin over!!! I'm a Zune fanboy & I just pissed myself.

#9 Posted by SenatorSpacer (431 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

That looks fucking sexy!

If it can play XBLA games and Xbox Originals, and stream Netflix to it I'll fucking buy it day one, I love my Zune.

Is it safe to say Fall 2009 cannot come soon enough? I mean hell, I haven't even finished this school year, and I actually cannot wait for the next on to come. Summer release, please! A camera would be icing on the cake!

This is Microsofts GIANT-BOMB! Yer damn fuckin skippy Fall 09 can't come fast enough. I have 1 day left of school & I definitely wish it was Fall already.......

I've definitely heard a lot of murmurs about XBLA coming to the Zune HD. I can confidently say the Xbox Originals will not play off it but Netflix is plausible & a great idea!

There is nothing really wrong with the Zune software, unless you count some music playing regardless of "paused" status, which happens sometimes.

Gah, I have an iTouch but I might just have to check this out if it turns out well.

Well ok, it "functions". But I don't find its layout all that great. Could be simpler and when you are organizing music, podcasts etc, I prefer a simpler interface and set up. Sure it works with a few minor problem here and there which isn't too big of a deal but, it could be more straight forward. I also think its too flashy for its own good. It doesn't really need to be as flashy as it is and all it does is hog up resources.

The Zune interface is far superior to the iPods in everyway. I can't even fumble around with those 1/2-ass pieces of shit anymore....
Who's bright idea was it to have me scroll in a circle for every fucking direction.

Definitely interested in E3 now, especially from Microsoft. And it will have internet, courtesy of Internet Explorer. Of all browsers, but oh well! Although I was a big fan of applications on the iPod Touch, I'm willing to suffice without them. I cannot believe how crazy I sound now.

I really wish they would've dropped a price estimate with all these details. I'm crossing my fingers for mass-details during E3. I need to know how much too save-up for Fall 09, lol.

Same here expect I'm positive I'm going to make the upgrade. I started off a few years ago with the Halo 3 Zune & I've worked up to my 80gb.
I might keep my 80gb depending on how big the internal memory is on the Zune HD though...... more details are needed

Have friends who swear by the Zune and this one sure looks pretty.  I have an iPod but next Mp3 player I need I'll certainly take a look at what Microsoft is offering.

Rofl. For me? No of course I don't think its complicated. For the mass market? Yeah it probably would be. The ones who don't really know computers yet buy Ipods like its toilet paper. And don't say "well this isn't meant for them." If it wasn't attempted to be meant for them, then who the hell for? They won't be successful if it isn't for more than just the "specialized." Not to the extent Microsoft would want it to be anyway.

Don't be an asshole man, I didn't say anything that deserved it.

I wasn't trolling, I was insulting. The Zune has bright sized 25 font scribbled in crayon for the menus. How is it complicated? My Grandma gets it.....
#30 Posted by TripMasterMunky (2388 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

This could be what the Zune needs, a reboot of sorts. The current model isn't doing too well against the ipod. But a total reboot of sorts could get attention on the Zune again.

Yay for competition in the mp3 market!

@jNerd:
They certainly won't go below the iPod Touch prices, but will match them. I believe 16GB iPod Touch is $300, and $400 is the 32GB iPod Touch. Don't be shocked. I'd prefer an 8GB model too, to be honest.

Zero chance of getting 360 XBLA games up on there, it'd need the 360's hardware inside it to do so.

Sounds like it'll have a gaming component, but I have a hard time caring & wanting one unless there's a serious games component (more like a DS or PSP, not like a iPhone).

#36 Posted by Karmum (11468 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago
@Diamond:
Not exactly like the gaming component in the current Zunes are anything good, anyways. I can only recall of 3-4 games that I got from Microsoft for the Zune. It was with an update, is it possible to get anymore? If they are going to attempt to try handheld gaming on the Zune, I hope they take it seriously from now on.

What are you talking about? Hypothetically the Zune HD could easily emulate the software needed to play almost any XBLA game. They aren't complex, or large files.

I talk about these things because I DO know.  No way they could emulate software written for 360 like that.  It's not technically possible.  It'd involve rewriting the entire game to run on different hardware, and probably change most of the game in the process.  Probably would be easiest for flash games like Bejeweled 2.  Buy the 360 version and gain the right to play a version on Zune HD.

To be honest, touchscreen-only gaming sucks the big man-jewels. I love playing Hexic on my Zune when I'm bored, but I can't think of anything I would actually want to play on my music player. That's why I have my PSP and stuff.

The only reason I'm going to agree with you is because they couldn't remap all the buttons necessary to play all XBLA games. Other than that I still think it's technologically plausible.
You wouldn't have to rewrite any part of the actual game, just the controls.
It'd be like using Daemon Tools to run an ISO without burning it to a disc. It'd just create a virtual "mini 360" to filter the code through to play on Zune HD.
#42 Posted by Oy (264 posts) - 3 years, 11 months ago

The bottom portion of it almost looks like it might slide out a little bit.  Maybe there's a Dpad and a few buttons in there for games??

XBLA games still have the full power of the 360 available, even if they don't take advantage of it.  Lots of XBLA games do take good advantage of the hardware though.  It can't be compared to ISO mounting at all.  Emulation of hardware always requires more power, even if it's high level emulation.  Picking and choosing want aspects to 'emulate' would be the same as rewriting the code.

DUUUUDE!!!!! I just thought about this.... could they pull off cloud-computing with a WiFi connection?
Assuming it has internet capabilities @ minimum, equal to the iPod Touch's. Do you think that connection speed could pull-off XBLA cloud computing?

What they could do is what PSP can already do with PS3.  You could get a wifi or internet connection to your 360 and play 360 games on the portable screen.  Don't need a server cloud if you're just talking about 360 games.

Why would you want to plug into HDMI via a portable device anyway?  You could just watch HDTV, DVDs, or blu-ray disks directly instead. The whole point of a portable device is to remain mobile.  Once you get home or wherever your toys are, you put your mobile device away, or load it up with new material in the dock.

The HD Radio is a useful feature. Probably Apple is right around the corner with the next iPod that will have it as well.  However, I've been planning on upgrading my car stereo to an HD Radio that hooks into an iPod & allows iPod tagging.  There isn't any such feature for a Zune.  Hell, one of the things that makes iPods so great is all the supported accessories & features by 3rd parties that don't exist for any other portable media device.  Such as this:

Wadia normally charges $15,000 for their cd players...Where's the Zune's equivalent? LOL.
