"It really depends on the band. Some musicians are absolute crap live but they sound great in the studio, some vice-versaYeah, it really depends on how good the band can play drunk. And yeah, it depends on if you were really there. I saw Van Halen last summer, and it was the best concert of my life. Though whenever I show a youtube video to someone, they just say "dude, that's crap." Of coarse, almost any band taped from a dude in the audience with a camcorder is going to sound like shit.

"It really depends on the band. Some musicians are absolute crap live but they sound great in the studio, some vice-versa. Tool comes to mind as one of the latter, after seeing them so many times I have decided they are definitely better live because of all the improv and B-versions of songs they play that are usually never heard on their albums.I could probably find some random Youtube video of a Tool song being performed live that I thought was better than the studio version, but it would sort of defeat the purpose because part of what makes those songs great is the experience of actually being there live as it's played. There is just something about a live performance that is special, the feeling of how that moment will never be repeated and everyone there with you is sharing the experience. "Have to totally agree there. I've been to quite a few concerts in my day and have to say seeing those bands play live made me realize that the cd cuts of there songs just didn't sound as great. I miss "Blues on the Mall" when local bands would come play on stage in the downtown park. Nothing like that where i am now....
