99% Sure hes still there but I could be wrong, at least he didn't mention it in the OTS chat."
Indeed i think KvO is still going to be at Gamespot for the time being, and hopefully forever because he is a solid guy."
i seriously think that CBS/CNET/Gamespot is to scared to fire him since he is gay (im 99% sure about that) and they are afraid that hes going to say they fired him because he is gay and they would get sued and such."
what?! thats the most ridiculous thing I've heard on here, and theres been some real ass holes lol. what are you talkin about dude?

Oh no.
Man, that makes me sad.

I don't know the editors at Gamespot personally, but I've been following Gamespot for going on 9 years. As each of the editors move on from the site I can't help but feel sad. I'm very fond of that site, and its staff, both past and present. I actually miss seeing those familiar faces on the site.

I wish all of them well.

I think it all started with Rich, and to some extent Carrie. Id say more Rich though since he left GS for unemployment while Carrie left GS for another job. But if working at GS is the dream job, why did they leave unless something we don't know was wrong?

Working at GS used to be the dreamjob, but not even I want to work there anymore."

Carrie left to go make video games, her real passion (she worked at game developer Acclaim before GameSpot). While Rich left to go live with his girlfriend (wife?) on the east coast. So Carrie is living her real dreamjob, and Rich is loving his family. That hardly seems like "they left because something was wrong."

Well I don't really know about Don and Bethany, all I know is that I am neither leaping for joy or sad about the loss of Aaron. He had some really horrible reviews, but then some decent ones. Maybe this is good, they will get there act cleaned up and get some better reviews out there when they get some new people if the economy gets better.

I really hate the mentality that big corperations like CBS have: "We are going to have 1% less growth this year! That means we only get 1.49 billion profit instead of the 1.50 we thought of at first. Quick! Fire people!"

Seriously, there should be a law in place that keeps companies from canning people as soon as their profit margins are a bit lower than expected. Making a profit is fine, and wanting to grow is fine as well, but god, why can't companies just be satisfied for once with what they got?

I can confirm Kristen as well. Anyway this isn't exactly "happy" news at all, regardless of who liked/disliked who there. I hardly understand how some people find it "hilarious" that these people are losing their jobs."
damn really. she has'nt even been there long.

Perhaps wrong is the wrong word for it, but it obviously wasn't the dream job for those two since Carrie went for her actual dream job and Rich (about a month before his departure was on vacation in Hawaii with his GF and he tells us he's moving back for family reasons. Yeah I think he proposed at Hawaii and she said yes.)
Either way something wasn't right if not wrong because people don't leave dream jobs unless it wasn't a dream job.

In fact that totally does seem like they left because something wasn't right (aka WRONG), like the perceived dream job at GS is just another other job, but somehow we romanticized it to be the dream job. Most of us can't say since most of us never actually worked at GS. Either way, whether actually working at GS was a dreamjob or not, the perception of it is definitely gone.

Of course it's romanticized by us twits on these messageboards. Most of us only think "paid to play games, zomg!!!!!!1 sign me up!" when in reality it is pretty hellish. It's easy to love what you do while working a job like that but even freelancing it, from the comfort of my home on a sometimes loose schedule, is still very hectic. It's multitasking in the extreme, doing a crazy amount of stuff at once while trying to do your job. It feels good in the end but it isn't what most people would hope.

That said this really saddens me. Between the losses they've suffered this year, including Matthew Rorie (my idol in the area of game guide writing) and all the previously mentioned ones, this site is really killing itself for me. Which is really annoying as it's been my homepage for well over three years. I like Kevin Van Ord and Shaun McGinnis but the rest of the new blood doesn't really do it for me. I feel bad for those being fired AND those left behind. Losing a job this close to Christmas is a horrendous thing which CBS should be ashamed of itself for (at least wait until the New Year people) and I can't imagine the feeling of seeing the people you're working with, even longtimers, being shed like itchy clothing.

*sigh* It's a shame too. The site has been slowing down in the stuff being posted, the rapid-fire days of old are starting to grind down. Blogs are less frequent too. I wonder how bad it's getting for those left behind... Good luck guys! I hope you don't need it.

Right when I thought GameSpot was going to start rebuilding and try to get better from the massive losses they had last year, this happens.

I'm going to miss Aaron the most :(

Damn, son. I feel sorry for anybody who's still at GameSpot, they've been treated like dog shit since the Gerstmann fiasco. Wouldn't be surprised if the site goes under by next year.

It really sucks. Most will be greatly missed by many, and for me, I will miss Don and Bethany the most. I hate talking about the economy because it's the new hot topic of the world, but it really stinks that this is happening, not just to CBS, but to many, many companies.

We're in an economic crisis. Layoffs are happening everywhere. It's scary yes, but business have to survive and sadly that means job security is fucked in the ass right now.

All of the big wig CEOs need to take a pay cut, since they make too much already, instead of laying off people. That's how they'll be able to save the company money.

I have absolutely no idea how GiantBomb is funding itself at all.

It's a thought process that has always bugged me as well. I love the way business claims to have a loss, when in reality, it just means that they fell short of a projected income that they came up with for the following year -- even if it is based on historical data. As far as I'm concerned, any income that is made after all the debts/bills have been paid is called a profit.  I see no loss in that.

they've just began doing subtle advertisement. Also, I think they get something for writing articles and linking them to other sites that sell stuff. They're also selling merchandise you know. But who knows, maybe they just work for whiskey...or do they? lol

I don't visit Gamespot as much as I used to, and as much as I have my opinions on each staff member there, it really is a shame to see people losing their jobs, especially when some of them haven't even had it for a full year. I hope none of the UK team have been terminated, as that is the branch of the site I spend all the time on (podcasts, video content, forum).

Thanks for those of you who expressed your kind concern for those of us who are departing.
I also appreciate the regulating Jeff did. Though he and I worked together for a short time, I have respected and followed his contributions for nearly 10 years. I am still a fan like most of you.
Here's to the future!
