@kmdrkul:  I'm pretty sure it was a pre-NXE feature.  It was an option for voice communication that made your voice sound deeper than it really was.  You know, like when someone is interviewed in the dark and voice masking is used to hide their identity.  Same thing.

No. If SNES and Genesis games had online multiplayer, there would be just as many idiots playing those games online as well.

That's why I just don't use my headset on COD4 anymore. I think people like that are just a part of life and should just be ignored.

If I had Gold, I would be in a particularly bad situation because I don't have many friends on there. I maybe have 2 that I talk to on a regular basis. So that takes private matches out of the question.

So when my only option for online play is public matches, I would have to put up with the idiots on there just to play. And I'm sure I'm not the only guy out there in that situation.

I agree -- though I just mute everyone when I'm playing online. It's not only the kids too: there are lots of young adults doing this as well, it just comes across as offensive rather than annoying when they do it.

EDIT: It seems people "can't play online because of this". Just mute all the assholes. Voila! We shouldn't have to do that, but hey, it works. And also set that player as "disliked" so you don't run into them again.

EDIT#2: Someone mentioned the voice masking thing that made your voice deeper: that was removed because it's GARBAGE. It makes you sound like some screwed up text-to-speech voice.

You know, I think we are missing the point of the OP.  He's just saying, "Hey, don't be a total asshole!"  and not, "Don't be mean."  Like way back when Street Fighter 4 came out, I was tearing through guys and talking into my headset.  I wasn't saying anything mean really, just teasing the other guy and saying, "All right, now I start trying!" and "Is that the best you got?" and that kinda stuff.  Nothing vulgar or profane, and after I beat a guy, I would tell him what I thought he did wrong, and if I lost, I would tell the guy that we just had a fun match.

However, nobody talked back for a real long time, and it felt like something was missing.  Eventually, I did run into a few people talking back, and they were real friendly like me, but something was still wrong.  Finally, I beat a guy who then hooked up his headset to say, "Learn how to play the game faggot!"  and it put the biggest smile on my face.  In that moment, I realized I loved getting people angry on Xbox Live.

I stopped reading at this point, because you are already making an invalid point.  THIS is the age of vulgar music, teenage pregnancy, and nuclear bombs?

There was an ACTUAL bomb dropped on Hiroshima.  Haven't seen one dropped in a while now...

You think TEEN pregnancy is bad now?  How about back in the B.C. and early A.D. times when it was EXPECTED in many countries that a child would be married by the time they were 12 and that they were to have children pumping out one by one until a boy showed up?  Even more than that, if the woman kept producing girls, she was MUR-DERED and the young boy/man/whatever would have to get a new wife...or multiple wives.  So teen pregnancy TODAY is nothing more than a continuation of the last 2,000+ years.

Vulgar RAP music?  How about back in the Victorian Era?  Or even better...how about ELVIS?!  That dood was considered FAR more vulgar than any rap artist that isn't named "2 Live Crew" could EVER be considered.

So I can't read the rest of what you have to say, because you automatically claimed that we're in some sort of rut now.  We, as a society and a species, have been in a rut for THOUSANDS of years.  We are destructive by nature, and there's no changing instinct...only habits.

Online Now

Im 15, and btw you sound much older and much more mature then your age would suggest
People discrminating others for their age are not better then racists or whatever, people who do that are about as mature as the 14 year olds and under they are complaning about.

Only way is to fight back with some sort of quick wit and/or psychological tricks. Keep them subtle, and if their intelligence is shattered, you'll know. That's all that matters. You can't fight them all, but you can certainly keep up the fight. Gaming's future is worth it.

It all depends on which online community, you have chosen. I have once played World of Warcraft and participated in Teamspeak(or Ventailo). During raids and such, I have always encounter kids around your age speaking and older people treating those kids with respect while the kids do so too. Sometimes its quite annoying to wait for adults to ''finish their smoke break'' before facing a boss but no one would complain about that. Or at least, that I have witness.

I just play the fucking game. If I get mad, I don't swear, I try harder. I talk in the most kind ways. It's just a game!

Thank god I don't play online games anymore. Split-screen/local multiplayer FTW.

I think the community is just evolving (technology) and we just haven't been able to catch up with it. It does not help that with anonymity on the net/gaming that we can act like total immature brats.

Personally, the only game I play that requires me to be on voice chat is World of Warcraft. My guild is only 18+ for a reason. That way we can cut out the idiots. I hate games like Halo 3 and GoW because of the shit talking. I mean in real life I don't try to demean people, why do it in game? My parents raised me right.
