I am saddened only one person said The Big Lebowski.

Also, Fargo is a good one.

Some movies I've watched recently and would recommend...
  • The Fly (1958 version with Vincent Price)
  • Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
  • Children of Men (2006)
  • Changeling (2008)
  • Vengeance is Mine (1979)
  • The Wackness (2008)

The Dollars Quadrology (I know, it's often thought of as a trilogy, and the last one doesn't have Eastwood, but it fits, I promise):
A Fist Full of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
Once Upon a Time in the West

Classics, and for a modern comparison:

El Mariachi
Desperado
Once Upon A Time In Mexico

@Wolverine: I saw it years ago and I vividly remember a smoking hot actress with a ludicrous haircut.  It was a good flick though.

Gattaca seems like a blatant Blade Runner ripoff.  Is there any difference?

@BiffMcBlumpkin: That looks positively ridiculous, in a good way.  Think I'm going to check that one out.

Thanks to everyone for these great suggestions; several of these I've never heard of (City of God?) and I'll definately look into a lot of these.

I'd actually rather punch myself in the crotch multiple thousand times instead of watching that movie again.  Samuel L. Jackson with his ridiculous bleached hair looked positively retarded in that movie.

I guess I liked it because Hayden Christensen's character seems pretty cool and the girl he gets with is really hot. I like those movies James Bond type movies where you look up to the main character.

@Wolverine: You mean Rachel Bilson?  She was the only redeeming quality from that movie in my opinion :P

@BiffMcBlumpkin: Hey look, it's Buttle! I mean... Tuttle! Aw, crap.

Brazil was a life-altering film for me. As a wee lad, I'd snuck out to watch late-night television while eveyone else was asleep. This film came on. I've never been the same since.

Gotta jump in on the Terry Gilliam love here, see Tideland probably he's most natural yet still surreal film, it was released back in 2005 and promptly ignored.

" I've been itching to watch a good film lately.  So I'd like some suggestions from the GB community.

To give you guys an idea of the type of movies I like, my favorite movies of all time are, in no particular order:
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • The Wrestler
  • The Assassination of Jesse James
  • The Professional (aka Leon)
  • Bladerunner
I'm a big fan of quirky, sci fi flicks ala A Clockwork Orange.  Do not recommend me a Tarantino movie because I have seen all of them.  Also, Kubrick is out of the question as well.  "
Serenity. Seems it could be your type by what you said, if you haven't seen it already.

Oldboy and City of God are great picks.  Bangkok Dangerous (the HK version, not the remake), Infernal Affairs (or the Departed, the remake's fine for once), and The Tesseract were really good as well.

All great films. Oldboy, especially, is favourite of mine. And Infernal Affairs is a mile better than The Departed.

Then you might like The Fifth Element. It is a great sci fi movie with a great message.
"

This, The Fifth Element is my favourite movie, and no not just because of Milla, sheesh...

Agreed with Infernal Affairs being better than the Departed, but that's comparing a four star film to one of the greatest in "Chinese" history.   The remake of Bangkok Dangerous on the other hand was actively offensive to the original material, I can't believe the Pang Brothers worked on both.
