Well I'm diving into old Arnold movies. Today I'm watching Conan the Barbarian. Might watch the sequel if I'm thirsty for more blood.

@BiffMcBlumpkin:  That's what I was going to say, too.

But having that one already noted, I'll suggest the following:

The Naked Lunch.  It's not really sci-fi but it is odd with fantastic elements.
Hardware - Post Apocalypse movie with a killer robot
The Grifters - an excellent multilayered crime-thriller/drama
Children of Men - a modern day sci-fi classic
Logan's Run - the flip side of Children of Men, an established sci-fi classic, too.
Event Horizon - spooky space madness!!
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - mind alterations for love and pain
Strange Days - Jack into other people's memories
Brainstorm - experience other people experiences with dangerous effects
The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th Dimension - just a really great odd sci-fi movie.

"I've been itching to watch a good film lately.  So I'd like some suggestions from the GB community.

To give you guys an idea of the type of movies I like, my favorite movies of all time are, in no particular order:
  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Reservoir Dogs
  • The Wrestler
  • The Assassination of Jesse James
  • The Professional (aka Leon)
  • Bladerunner
I'm a big fan of quirky, sci fi flicks ala A Clockwork Orange.  Do not recommend me a Tarantino movie because I have seen all of them.  Also, Kubrick is out of the question as well.  "

Go watch the original saw, the original hostel, Repo! The Genetic Opera, Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Observe and Report, Watchmen, and American Psycho.

.
David Cronenberg stuff, like all his older stuff as well as his new stuff like Eastern Promises and A History of Violence.
. Kurosawa definitely
. anything by Werner Herzog
. Tarantino and Rodriguez, both great

That's all I got of the top of my head.

If you want a crazy ass sci fi movie try The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Demension. Peter Weller (Robocop) plays the title character. The movie also stars Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd. Basically Peter Weller discovers a way to pass through solid objects when he does this he finds out about an alien race that was trapped in that dimension is now escaping on to earth and he and his jazz band with the the help of a jamaican alien must stop them before the planet is destroyed.

Yeah its insane.

@kmdrkul: Hmm from your movie tastes I would say something sorta intellectual and action-y? I would recommend Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and/or Snatch. Both are Guy Richie movies. British action/thriller movies with insanely awesome plots. Theyre really convoluted with a lot of different groups of people and they all become intertwined in really crazy ways without knowing it. Lots of guns, swearing, and all that as well of course.

Also Check out Rocknrolla, its guy richies newest movie and its really amazing as well, all similar style.

Also they have pretty awesome casts too, Brad Pitt. Jason statham, Jerard Butler, Ludacris :P Good stuff!

Inside Man was also a really great movie, bank robbing movie, with lotsa crazy crazy twists. Has Clive owen in it.

Any Coen brothers film, such as The Big Lebowski and Fargo. Fargo is one of my favorite movies ever, so check that out.

Also, Apocalypse Now is essential viewing for any movie fan and newer, quirky classics I would recommend are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation.

@kmdrkul:
Watch
"The Thing" by John Carpenter
it's a great Sci-fi movie that does not depend on CG to scare you, its a pretty good thriller.

Also try "American Histroy X" I'm sure somone else has beat me to it but its a good movie.

Angel-A is a good noir movie. I loved The Professional, Wasabi is another movie with Jean Reno that has elements of humor and crime\action. I found it to be touching as well.

Shoot em Up (Action, Thriller) is another movie I recommend, along with The Silence of the Lambs (but I'm assuming you've seen the latter, if not it's excellent).
