@Hamz: I agree, it's probably hard to have that much hate towards you at such a young age.

His music is just so bad though and it doesn't help that tons of people seem to think it's the best music ever made.

I think it's hilarious how nigger is censored but crackers isn't.

I'm so sick of hearing "dont' you use dat word boi, dat be our word", when they use an equally racist word.

He should just stand up to the hate. Honestly what did he expect? If he can't take it then he should go ahead and stop making such shitty music.

@DarkGamerOO7: So would any band from this day and age, regardless of the genre. Music changes with time.  Who knows what people will enjoy 30 years from now, but I bet we would 'laugh it out of the studio' if we heard it today.  Rock was frowned upon when it was started, Rap was too.  Old people hated Elvis, Beatles, Tupac, Metallica - mainly because it wasn't what they listened to.

If tons of people think that, then there must be something about his music that appeals to people.

Personally I think most people hate on him because they're either jealous of his success at such a young age, or because they think it's the cool thing to do these days.

I respect Rap, but what Soulja Boy makes is an insult to the genre, my point was that his music sucks, not the genre he sings it, but I could see how it would come off that way.

@DarkGamerOO7: I see what you mean, and I guess I interpreted it the wrong way. Sorry about that.  I partly agree too, but Soulja Boy isn't doing anything new. It's trendy these days to have a dance and then write a rap song about it, he kind of did the same thing. That's why I stopped listening to rap in the 90's. Ever since then it's just been stuff that doesn't appeal to me. Good rappers are hard to come by these days, and because hip-hop and rap has blown up the past decade, more people like Soulja Boy keep coming out and most likely will continue to do so, unfortunately.

@Hamz: I agree with you. I don't necessarily like the guy or his music, well I didn't mind it that much... it was pretty funny watching people try to do the "Soulja Boy". He seems like a idiot with no class by the way he uses language but I feel bad for him because at the end of the day the guy gets ridiculed by thousands and thousands of people. I can't imagine him quitting the music industry, I doubt he has enough money to do that because he really only had one hit. If he quits he will just be another MC Hammer.

" @TheMustacheHero: Because at such a young age the guy has become a household name really. He's made a fair amount of money, fame and a lot of the people who try to rip his career and personality apart are likely the same age or younger. But not nearly as much of a success as he has been. I guess what I'm saying is I can sort of admire the fact he had the balls to step up and put himself out there for the vultures to prey on. "
Success? By success, do you mean from one or two songs, or successful albums? He hasn't had the latter, neither critically or sales-wise. Household name? When I think of the rap and hip-hop industry, Soulja Bot definitely isn't one of the first people that comes to mind.

All you guys need to shut up right now and read this:

"Yeah I said. f*** all of yall. I'm taking my money and leaving. Gonna go blow kush and live my 2nd dream. this rap sh** lame now"

His "second dream" is video game design. That's what he wants to do "go to school and learn how to make video games".

I have nothing but hate for the guy. His "music" has always been terrible, and he has never shown one bit of charm or charisma. Also, he made that insanely retarded video about dissing Ice T. You know, the one where his entire argument was that Ice T is old. Think that might have been what pushed me from just not caring for him to actual hate. Now with him out of the limelight someone with talent might be able to shine.

We hate party rap now? It feels like this hate is all coming from non party/club goers. I'd rather have every song on my iPod be a life changing experience...

" I can't help but feel a little sorry for the guy. Sure he may be a bit of an idiot and sometimes say things without fully thinking out the implications of such statements and how stupid or controversial they may be. But the kids is just that, a kid. He's 18 and been thrown headlong into an industry that is full of well established and critical individuals and been forced to sort of deal with that at an age most 18 year olds are thinking of college, summer jobs and not getting up before midday. People have ripped him apart, ridiculed him left and right and generally just been rude to the guy since day one really and it hasn't ever stopped. When I think about all this I can't help but feel a little sorry for him. Especially when I can't help but feel a lot of people ripping on him are doing so out of jealousy more than anything. "
Completely agree, and reading threads like this make me feel really bad for him. He may not be making the most deep music, but it's perfectly legitimate music nonetheless, and he does it to entertain the people that do like it.

It's also really, really weird to think he's younger than me, I miss being a kid.

Definitely the former.  His song "Crank that Souja Boy", whether you like it or not, sold 4,183,000 downloads in the U.S. which is the one of the top sellings songs ever -
source.

By all definitions of the word - that is successful. That also might qualify for making his name a household name. Assuming you don't listen to rap, have you ever heard of him before his gaming videos and this thread?
