Polling places are starting to open (some since midnight) so people are now going out to vote. I can literally run to my polling place and be there in less than two minutes (its in a park around the block) so that's very convenient. I got my sample ballot filled out and ready to go and I'll be voting Obama. Who are you voting for?

In my area I voted pretty much straight democratic and retracted one vote from somebody that always runs as a republican / democrat unopposed.

I voted today, because it's fun to vote on election day. Utah has a straight ticket option, which I will never use! I actually voted for one Republican, Orrin Hatch. In the senate, seniority is power, and he has been in there forever. He's the loudest voice Utah has, and I don't want to silence that.

I'm off work today and will be voting with my mom when she gets home from work. She gets home around 4 so hopefully we can beat the mad dash at 5 when everybody is coming home from work. I'll be voting for Gary Johnson because I vote for who I think is the best candidate, not for who I think is the less bad of the two popular choices.

I was going to vote early, but I thought that it ended the day after it actually did so I'll be going today. I miss being in a state where I can request an absentee ballot for any reason (I can do that here) and then just drop it off at any polling place on election day (can't do that part). I hate the idea of my ballot getting lost/damaged as other mail has in the past. Once I received the charred corner of an envelope with my return address in a ziptop sandwich bag. The mailbox that I'd put it in had been the target of a bomber upset with the US government, but that's a different story.

It was really nice getting my ballot and being able to sit down and take my time researching all of the local offices and ballot measures at my leisure and then just drop it off at whatever polling place that I went past on election day. It's by far the easiest way to vote.

I too voted Gary Johnson and for the same reason. I believe in candidates, not force-fed parties. I went mostly Libertarian on my votes, and any that didn't have a Libertarian, Democratic. I'll never vote Republican.

I voted for Romney in Ohio, in one of the north coast blue counties. I was at the polls at 6:30 when they opened. The parking lot was packed and there was a substantial line, and it took me an hour to finally get a ballot, fill it out, and have it processed. By the time I left though the line had largely subsided. Clearly a pre-work day crowd. Go on non rush hours if you can avoid them, as the difference is probably night and day.

I went out at 7am and just got back now at 7:23. I was surprised to see that there was a line waiting for the place to open. I voted straight Democrat when given the option (there were some nonpartisan choices) and the propositions are what they are here in California.

Voted Obama in Nebraska. The state is typically red, however we use the Congressional District Method when distributing our electoral votes. I live in the 2nd district and in the 08 election, actually gave Obama one electoral vote. Fingers crossed it's the same this year!

The rest of my ballot was democrat for senate and house with a mix (abstaining my vote in one district) for legislature.

Just voted. It's great that my state lets us vote for judges so we can get rid of the bad/ineffective ones. Too bad there were dozens and dozens of them on my ballot. Seriously, about 80% of my ballot was judges. I'm probably one of the few who did any research on them. The judge who has been suspended for 7 months and requires an escort through the courthouse because she's been violent has a good chance of retaining her $180k/yr job. I voted no to keeping her.

Yup, very quickly so (which is why it isnt exactly as good as the original HOPE poster). More than willing to support the Macho Man's attempt to take over any country's leadership (alas, my voitng for him in the UK elections did not see him win over here) just remember to VOTE ELBOW!

Well, if you want to change things back to a monarchy, best take the top-down approach the communists seem so fond of.

@Ben_H: That looks more like a touch screen that needs recalibration.

I personally didn't vote due to being in New York, but I'd have to absentee vote for Texas, and voting blue in Texas is pretty much pointless.

If you read the Youtube description, the guy actually tested to make sure it wasn't calibration and all of the other options worked fine, just not Obama. He selected Jill Stein thinking it would give highlight Obama but it didn't, it selected Stein.

Clearly you haven't researched the video or the cause...

It was a calibration issue with a touch screen device, it was immediately remedied and no votes were cast illegitimately given the fact that there are two screens, one of which asks you to confirm who you're voting for.

Underlined: That's why deceased people voted for Obama and there was voter intimidation last election?

Except I answered a question later on in the thread with regards to calibration that someone asked so I am aware of that issue.

And with regards to the Republicans having no ethical standards, I am referring to them trying to pass laws relating to voter suppression (I'm not even going to get into the whole issue of them wanting to shrink the government while at the same time making it so the government can control whether gay people can marry, and controlling women's bodies when they have absolutely no business doing that. Then there's the whole trying to force religion into the education system thing, but that deserves a discussion of its own.).

Obama, of course. Then Libertarian for the supreme court seats. I didn't know enough about any of the other candidates for other positions to feel informed enough to vote for or against them. Then there was a page or two of nothing but uncontested republicans for various local positions. Fucking Texas.

The polling place was in a baptist church, and it had about seven folks who were all easily 70+. I overheard one gossiping craziness about a group of Liberals supposedly intimidating him out in public or some nonsense. And another old dude mistook my mother for my wife. Both made me die a little on the inside.

I voted Obama via mail-in ballot that I dropped off this morning, but in our county, the GOP Secretary of State included some sort of "I Voted" pin in the envelope that put a faint black line across, guess who, Romney's choice on several thousand ballots. I've been told it's too light affect my choice, and I made the Obama line nice and thick, but I have no confidence that it won't just kick out my vote because the machine can't decide my intent.

On the plus side, she's promised to "never do that again". I'm so relieved.

By the way, this is in Colorado, Arapahoe County.

Because I'm an incredibly sad person, I'm kinda jealous that you Americans get to vote in an important election today. Democracy seems like fun :P I was underage for the 2010 UK General Election by like 2 months so now I gotta wait 2 and half years. All I've had so far in the way of democracy was a vote on a referendum that was never going to go the way I voted.

I'd like to believe it's just a calibration error, but the Romney camp haven't exactly earned the benefit of the doubt. This would be a dumb way to do it though; making it visible to the voter.

This is probably going to be a mess over the next week with recounts and court hearings. Hopefully the election isn't close enough for that to be needed.
