FinalCutPro, Adobe Premier, Sony Vegas, for starters. You can do most things with the tools they have. Not to mention there are probably tons of tutorials for them.

If you wanna go all out, go for Final Cut Pro.

Doesn't get any better.

-Adobe Premier had way too big of a learning curve for me, I felt perplexed everytime I launched it.
-Sony Vegas, I've heard good things about it, I'll google it.
-Never heard of Final Cut Pro, I'll google that too

Why do you say that?
EDIT: 1.sorry for double post
2. I've got windows vista 64-bit, and the tech specs on the final Cut Pro website only mention the mac OS. Is it windows compatible?

Final Cut Pro is for the Mac, not sure if there is a PC version.

I would recommend Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate. It is similar to Vegas but comes with some amazing plug ins like Magic Bullet Looks, which is an amazing little program BTW. Plus it's by Avid who make industry standard PC software.

It's a little buggy but they have it super tight on crash recovery. I had it crash once during rendering and it picked up rendering on the exact same frame.

VirtualDub is good right? I don't use it, but that's what I've heard.
