Why would the Giant Bomb staff favor the 360?

Apparently, some people seem to think the Giant Bomb staff generally appreciate the Xbox 360 more than the PS3. While I can't speak for them personally,  I can say that it would make perfect sense. Whether you're talking about online play or system functionality, it seems that the Sony zealots are fucked both ways. But hey, you 360 kids are still just a bunch of dicks, so both of u, keep reading. I should add, I guess, that most of my points are no-brainers to most people, and the problem seems to be that people are just afraid to confront their wasted money, religious-like devotion, and their pointless child-like aggression.

Let's talk online. There are just so many damn people online for the 360. When u own a system like that, any form of trophies or achievements for any other platforms become pointless. (Don't say otherwise either... I mean... unless ur retarded.) Like, for the PS3, they might have some cool PSN titles that come out, like Crash Commandos... and I kinda liked Cell Factor, but give those games a week(a day, for the latter) and you will see a tremendous drop in online attendance. Matching up games will prove annoying and depressing... and after awhile, u will just say, "What's the point?" and turn the game off - for good. For disc-based games... like GTA IV, there's a large "occupancy" problem. GTA IV has been out for awhile now, and I recently went on my ps3 to see what was up with its months-old online component. I found it really hard to get a full game(4 people) going in Hangman's NOOSE, noticing my fellow player body guards(besides tending to - still - crash their helicopters into the ground and shout "WTF!") are either rank 1 or rank 8(The in-between seems to be less common somehow.) On the 360, this isn't a problem. You may have a lot more people at lvl 8 than when the game first came out...no shit... but there are enough people out there who JUST got the game, so that you can have an enjoyable, slightly-more-balanced match than you can on the ps3. It seems the "fuck it" mentality comes with low online population. Early on, it was pretty easy for me to enjoy a nice Online Freeburn in Burnout Paradise, but now, way after its release, im seeing about one person dropping every couple minutes. I'm guessing it's for the same reason that I say Fuck it: There's like five people playing, one of them is a toy car, one is across the map in the airport, one just wants to fly around really fast in the Marty Mcfly hovercar, and me and some dude have been doing u-turn take-downs for about twenty minutes. Plus, im the purple dot.

Anyway. Get away from all that online stuff, and you've got a very obvious issue that many people, as well as me, have a hard time coming to terms with. The numbers just aren't there. As Bethesda CLEARLY demonstrated with Fallout 3, developers just aren't gonna give a shit about the ps3 version of their multi-platform games. Not a big enough audience, not enough income, too little gain. It really is that simple. And well... sadly... the PS3 does have a harder time dealing with anti-aliasing(ability to smooth out potentially jagged lines in the game world. Really, just play Fallout 3 for PS3. Yep. Fuck Bethesda.)

So  there you go. From a Sony kid's perspective, too. If u still can't see why the Giant Bomb staff generally gravitates towards the Xbox 360, well... then you're retarded. And another thing. Stop with all the PS3 bashing. We payed $700 for that thing.

Edit: re-read it and took some gay shit out

They favor the Xbox 360 because when they play / review games on the Xbox they earn there precious points.

They do prefer the 360 to the PS3, there is no doubt about that, they do it because of achievements, Xbox Live and because they have all the people they play with there on their friendslist

And also the headset situation on the 360 is better, there are alot more people using them

And also, ALL their multiplat game reviews are on the 360 and some are on both but thats rare but NEVER on PS3 only

One thing that I've liked about GB and the reason why I am here is because Jeff and the staff just show and down to earth passion about games regardless of the console.

@ahriman22:
yeah that's true, but that is the reason for the bias. if it had a ton to do with the inner workings of the individual consoles, or the exclusive games, then i would have elaborated on them.

Yeah thats it. You figured it out. Achievements are the ONLY reason the GiantBomb staff occasionally favors the 360. CongratuFUCKINlations you are the most ignorant person on the internet.

You got me. I was totally ignorant about the slightly improved framerate, sharper textures and shorter load times that the crew point out every week when something so trivial like achievement points which never gets mentioned on any of the podcasts.

Thank you for pointing out my stupidity

@Dovey: Yeah, they are actually honest when reviewing games. None of that corporate pressure weighing down on them.

How about, why the hell not?

  • The controller is probably the most ergonomically designed 'traditional' controller on the market -- just because Sony had a good design from the start does not mean they can't improve on the design and they have been consistently lazy in their lack of evolution on that front.
  • The online service is the most established of all the consoles to date - mics out the box, party chat, established video marketplace.
  • Multiplatform games still perform at the same standard as the PS3, and in most cases perform better.
  • Achievement points were in there from day 1, making them far more attractive than PS3 trophies.

Sony have been trying to patch in features that should have been there from the word go -- mics were not available out the box, BC is still not consistent over SKUs, trophies arrived late and the console itself has sufferend as a result.

All the things that the PS3 has over the 360 -- Blu-ray, built in wifi, expandable memory, mean jack shit when they are playing the system for the games. I have no doubt the team can see the potential of the PS3 exceeds that of the 360 but it doesn't mean it's the most fun to play.

I have a PS3 and a 360 and I love them both but when I want to play a game, I go straight to my 360 - my PS3 is an exclusive-titles player and a kickass media centre.

i did my edits now. had to go away from the comp for awhile. guess i shouldn't have typed that first hah. but dude, yeah, i'm just sayin' this shit in every-day language. these aren't my memoirs. so most of this is extremely sarcastic on purpose.

Why do they seem to be biased in favour of the PS3 and against the 360? Well, first of all they're not. Don't mistake a unbalanced amount of reportage on the 360 side for a platform bias. But Sony enthusiasts need to realize the 360 has more high-profile games coming out for it, the games that come out for both generally have more post-release support on the 360, and there's also the fact that MORE PEOPLE OWN 360s THAN PS3s SO THEY'RE GOING TO DEDICATE THEIR COVERAGE TO SUIT THEIR AUDIENCE.

I don't know about you guys, but it's not even a universal thing. Jeff maybe obsessed with points and the 360's various mechanisms, but whenever Vinny's talking about a game, he's talking about it on the PS3.

How I see it Jeff and Ryan are 360 guys; Vinny is more PS3 sided and Brad is somewhat neutral on which he prefers. I can understand earning the Achievement points as they seem to mean more to 360 owners than Trophys do to PS3 owners. I couldn't care less about Trophys or Achievements but thats me. Online communication is something often disabled by the guys in quick looks so that is NOT a deciding factor, it could just be comfort with the controller or being sent a 360 copy. Does it really matter? The guys produce generally unbiased content that is unrestricted to corporate non-sense and standards. Just wish they had better deadlines and would do their best to keep things in a constant schedule like Tuesday Thursday is a review Wednesday Friday is a quicklook and Monday is I love mondays with ER going all week.

I prefer "Co-Op"'s take on games and not having a rating for a game and just TALK about it, the good the bad and well if they feel its worth a playthrough, rental, etc.

Yeah I agree that if you own both consoles it is probably a no-brainer which you're gonna be using for the multiplatform games, though in some cases that might depend on dlc or such things. There's more people online, many people prefer xbox live over psn even if it costs money, more people using headsets and personally my favorite thing being the function to play games from the hdd thus making the console silent. But yeah PS3 is still a great console...

It's just like the PS2 last generation. The 360 has kind of become more "standard".

I'm trying to buy my games mainly for the PS3 from now on. Just a change in preference. But somehow I just feel very isolated playing on it. Almost no one on my friendlist is ever online (nor I rarely communicate with them), don't own a headset or even that many multiplayer games. And checking out random stuff and stranger profiles is just easier on the 360 (and I have a couple of very good active friends on it). I guess it's not really a system's fault. :(

/needs more PS3 friends.
