I was browsing my Ipod, and thinking about this question quite a bit. Previously, I used to say Roxy Music in response to what my "Guilty pleasure/Ashamed to like" group was, but after slowly realizing the awesomeness of Roxy Music, (Or simply Brian Ferry) I realized that my true guilty pleasure group is Tears for Fears. Now, they had several hits during the 80's, and were very popular, but I'm not just a casual Tears for Fears fan. I have all of their albums (Minus that garbage they realized in 2005 or w/e year it was) and even know of the B-Sides they were doing in between albums, such as this:

Some of their songs (musically) really broke out of the 80's cliche-New Wave-trash group that most people associate them with, and it's a shame that those people haven't listened to "The Hurting" and are only aware of "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World". Who can forget this absolute masterpiece:

Featured in Vice City, Pale Shelter was one of the lead singles from The Hurting. I don't know how I was exposed to most of their music; my main guess is that mid-80's radio tunes were still rampant during the early 90's. Anyway, who are some bands/songs/singers that you're afraid to admit you know every single damn song by?

Mine would have to be Andrew W.K., and all of his stuff.

Normally, I'm not too ashamed of my dalliances with fluff, but I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Dave Matthews.  I listened to him in high school, before I knew anything about his following, and eh, he was catchy enough.  It was a simpler, naive time then, what with Under the Table and Dreaming and Fantastic Damage sitting in the same stereo. I haven't listened to him in literal years, either, but still, I've never regarded him with the knee-jerk revulsion seemingly everyone else does.  And the fact I've somehow listened to Sakura's theme music from Street Fighter  around 150 times on iTunes is kind of embarrassing.

Eurythmics. Seen them in concert a couple of times, too. Annie Lennox is so badass she will break you open.

guilty pleasure for me is probably Collective Soul. but i dont know why i always feel as if its a guilty pleasure, i think they write good songs.

i could name a lot that definitely are guilty pleasures- like I always thought my collection of Michael Jackson music (every single song including the remixes he did with guys like will.i.am, and when he was features in songs with Akon etc etc etc) but now its like im cool again for being a big fan (even though i got accused of jumpin on the bandwagon)

uh... i love 311, umm talking heads, uhh, i used to like coldplay.... OH! and i enjoy Justin Timberlakes solo stuff, he has great beats. i loved when he did rock your body and it used a great little vocal riff from MJ from his song.

It's unhealthy how much Dancing Queen I have listened to/sung in public.

Haha, I'd have to say Beastie Boys. Despite the Beastie Boys having a huge fanbase, here in Texas, if you like anything that even REMOTELY resembles rap and you're white, you are the antichrist.

Nah, not really. Most of the people I hang out with don't really mind Rage Against the Machine, but even that's kinda pushing it.

I love Tears For Fears, too. =) I don't know all their stuff, but I sure do like the vast majority of it. Have you heard of Talk Talk, Bruce? They are another 80s band, although much less known, it seems. You should check them out if you haven't heard them.

@Meltbrain:

Didn't they put out like two ambient/art albums in the late 80's?

I believe so? I haven't heard a great deal of the instrumental stuff though, the earlier work is what I'm more familiar with. If you can get hold of A Natural History: The Very Best of Talk Talk, that's probably the best compilation of their works. Definitely worth a look if you're into alternative 80s music.

Backstreet Boys...
It used to be something of a joke that my friends and I would listen to on a car drive every now and then. I guess they sort of rubbed off on me... and won't go away.

Fountains Of Wayne.  They are people who only seem to write catchy pop music (the main songwriter actually gets paid to write hit songs for movies, like the title song in That Thing You Do, and Music and Lyrics) and there seems to be very little genuine artistic inspiration but man, they're lucky they can write them so well, and in so many styles.  Lyrics can be terrible but seemingly on purpose, but great production and hooks galore.  I may hate Stacy's Mom (aside from 1 chord change in the chorus) but Welcome Interstate Managers is A fantastic album, despite being a little over long.

I agree with everyone.

In addition, can I recommend to anyone the fine stylings of Ronan Keating?

haha, I wish, that'd be hilarious. To any actual rappers, it's just a cold indifference.
