It's not custom obviously, but it's probably the coolest laptop I have ever seen. Really glad I managed to snag one in February. Keep in mind this is a laptop/tablet hybrid.

  • Core i5 3317U
  • 8GB RAM
  • Intel HD 4000
  • 128GB SSD, 64GB SD card inserted
  • Windows 8
  • Folding screen

Don't know the nitty gritty as It's not something you can build yourself, but it's extremely competent for a tablet hybrid. It serves my purposes well. I can play Guild Wars 2 on medium with no problems and games like SSFIVAE run blisteringly fast. Obviously not using this for graphically intensive FPS games because I mainly purchased it for school, but it's capabilities are nice and Windows 8 is a blast to use on it because of the touch screen. Could not be more satisfied with a laptop.

This build is coming up on a year now. The only[0] major thing I'm itching to upgrade is the graphics card, when the next generation comes along later this year.

Speldator 2012-07
ChassiSilverstone Temjin TJ08B-E (black, mATX)
MotherboardASRock Z77 Extreme4-M (mATX)
CPUIntel Core i7 3770K (+ Hyper 212 cooler)
Memory16GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3
GPUAMD Radeon 6950 2GB
PSUCorsair HX650
Storage1x 128GB m4, 1x 256GB Samsung 830, 1x 2TB WD EADS
Monitor27" Crossover 27Q IPS (2560x1440)

Best build I've ever done. I love that case. It's small enough that it's not hulking, but large enough that you can actually get a decent graphics card and a bit of storage in there. I'm never going back to anything larger than mATX.

([0] I actually bought 4x8GB RAM to upgrade, but when I realized I'd have to remove the GPU to get access I couldn't be botherhed. Why mess with something that works? Also, laziness :-)

Will be throwing an i7 4770K in my machine this week on a new Asus P87 Deluxe, even sprung for some 2400mhz memory since I'm moving from triple channel to dual. Will be nice to let my 680's breath since all of my multi GPU setups have been sandwiched up against each other one the old i7 920 machine. Also going to be modifying my water loop to make it a little shorter by using one of those XSPC 5.25" Bay reservoirs with the integrated mount for a D5, should be a little less cluttered in there as a result.

Haven't got around to fiddling with the clock speeds yet, had some problematic SSD/SATA detection issues to overcome which took some time.

@shiseiten: you have a mobile graphics card... most high-end DESKTOP graphics cards can't handle ubersampling in that game.

@shiseiten: Your problem is the 680M. Mobile graphics cards are not nearly as powerful as their dedicated counterparts. A 680M is roughly as powerful as an HD7850 or a GTX570. Reference this Tom's Hardware Chart: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html.

Unfortunately you can't really use any kind of super sampling feature on current tech laptops. But the bright side is that ubersampling doesn't do too much to enhance the visuals, it just massacres frame rates. If you turn it off you can expect near 60fps with your laptop if not better.

Here's my rig:

How do you like your 8350? I've had mine for about a week now and have been having some issues with BSoD's (different reasons each time though). One BSoD was from a clock watchdog timeout or something which I found out meant one of the cores stopped responding. Anything like that?

@tiefighter77: that CPU should last for a while. Haswell isn't a big improvement over Sandy for gaming, so you've still got one of the best CPUs for that.
