Do you like the look of the Persona 5 Main Character? (Revealed at Sony's TGS Conference)
Nope. Looks like standard anime main character design 101. I have faith in the game and everything, but he just looks boring as shit

He seems to lack the style of previous Persona MCs, but at the same time I think he looks far more mature which makes me really like his design.
I do. I think he looks a little more normal than the last two, which is good because as you said, he's just a cypher (presumably).
Also I'm going to enjoy pretending he is Harry Potter hiding from He Who Must Not Be Named in Japan. Wingardium Persona!
Yeah, he looks good. I'm glad that he doesn't appear to another overly "cool" main character. I like that he seems more like just a normal guy than the last two main characters.
all anime characters look the same, the guy sitting next to him on the metro could be his twin brother...
One Piece begs to differ.
he looks like some anime ass anime character. real ? is will he talk
Talk? Don't be crazy.

He may have a new opinion of whatever jingle accompanies that home shopping channel of Persona 5.
Eh. He looks kinda like the previous male characters only with different hair and glasses.
Though he can probably rock a school girl outfit better than Charlie.

After Akiba's Trip 2, *yip* just makes me think of the "yip" sound every time your female avatar turned around. Still not sure if it was supposed to be "yep", but I always heard "yip". It was oddly cute in a Mysterious Fox sort of way.
Speaking of Persona, I met a Funk Student cosplayer at a convention recently. He was great.
I hope P5 has some silly characters like that.
He looks sufficiently devoid of any particularly obvious traits or strong personality, which fits right in with his zero-ness infinite potential yadda yadda, a cipher, as others have said.
I do have to say that I LOVE the Persona 5 logo though. Looks like it should should either be the logo for a racetrack or on an D1 car or something.
I wonder why these games don't give you a female alternative?
P3P did. It was great. I'd love to see that in P5.

You think? I think he looks exactly like the dudes from 3 and 4. Tall thin, dressed in black. Biggest innovation is the goofy glasses.
I like him, good design. The thing that stands out to me is the glasses though.
Quick, name all video game protagonists that wear glasses by default!
I'll start us off, Bayonetta, Gordon Freeman (even though you never actually see him)....
and... that's all I've got.
This may be a bit off topic but does he seem really tall for a high school student to anyone else? Makes me wonder if the stories going to take place in the final year of highschool/first year after highschool

I'm sure their reason is that it adds quite a bit of work: different voice recordings, changing Social Links around, etc. Still, I really wish they would commit to it for this, because I LOVED playing a girl in P3P. Or just, you know, have only a female protagonist. But who am I kidding...?

That seems like one of those weird holdovers from older japanese game development where they make a game with only a male character then go back and re-release it with a female character. But we don't know the story at all beyond the super vague original teaser so its entirely possible there story doesn't make sense with a female character

P3P and one of the P2 games did. P4 didn't because the mythology behind Izanagi and Izanami wouldn't work with a female character.
Persona 2 did not give you an option. It was broken into two parts... Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. In IS you play as a male character, and in EP you play as a female one. The games are separate and you have to play them both to get the "whole" Persona 2 story. P3P was a full on remake that just gives you the female option, it also dumbed down the game a ton and removed a lot of the things that make Persona good just to get on handheld and cram in a couple new things for female characters. You will notice in all official Persona stuff other than P3P when the main character of 3 is referenced or appears they are also always the male version.
In short, the "cannon" main character in persona is always Male except for the second half of Persona 2. However it is important to point out in Persona 2 you aren't a "cipher" either, your character has a default name and a set personality because the main character of Innocent Sin is just a party member in Eternal Punishment and the main character of Eternal Punishment was just a party member in Innocent Sin.
So all that aside.... dude looks fine. He has his required school uniform, looks super androgynous since the Japanese ladies seem to dig that, and his overall design seems to be a sort of retro look which is what the game over all seems to be going for. So he is a'ok in my book. I also find it interesting his has red buttons on his jacket and outside of this is a totally monochrome character. They have done this with all MC's since 3, the games "color" is on the character somewhere. It is interesting to note no one else in the trailer seems to have straight red on them either. I guess that plays into the japanese belief that red is a heroic color maybe.
I still prefer Persona 3 MC though, he had some boss headphones, and a gun :P.
Looks like generic ass anime dude to me? I come to these games for the gameplay and stupid story, not the looks of the main character
