A mysterious picture by one twitter user (now removed from his feed, uh oh) who's apparently attending PSX is making the rounds and getting people excited.

NeoGaf has Persona on the mind, and I don't blame them for it. Four party members standing on the head of an anime style techno-colossi. Page after page of fever-pitch hype, but what could it be?

Could it just be some custom art for the event? YOU DECIDE (and find out later)!

I thought this was gonna be a thread where we try to guess PS1 games from blurry images. Disappointed. but only slightly

The marketing for next year's Madden is weird.

It's probably a Shin Megami Tensei game of some kind.

Doubt it's Persona though, giant mechs and post apocalyptic wastelands are more of a main series thing.

I would be okay with the Persona series going in a different direction, I mean they've had what 4 (sort of 5) games set in a high school setting? If they were going to say "here's Persona 5, we're introducing the next evolution in JRPG's" I could get behind that

It's either SMT or Persona without a doubt in my mind. Not sure which I'd be more excited for, but the lack of red makes me feel like it's SMT.

@belegorm: But the high school setting is the entire thing about Persona. If you want everything else about Persona but in a more fantastical setting there's a series for you, it's Shin Megami Tensei.

@corevi: But my thinking is that while Persona is currently the most well-regarded and most anticipated JRPG series (well I do know people who are diehard FF fans), doing the same thing over and over again will get kind of old. Not that I wouldn't mind another one set in a high school, but wouldn't it be neat, and more original to have you play as some white collar worker in his 20's or 30's, who also builds relationships with his co-workers and people he meets, while at night fighting some evil shit?

I'm not sure why so many people are jumping on the SMT train over that picture. Nothing about that screams SMT in the slightest. Unless it's a new spin-off, but even that seems like a leap.

@belegorm: Keeping the game in high school and keeping the mechanics fresh would do more for that series than just putting it in a new setting. I know people really want to see some more grown up JRPGs, but I don't necessarily want to see them just shove the same formula onto a bunch of working class grown-ups. (Especially considering what Japanese working class life is like.)

@make_me_mad: I expected someone to bring up Metatron (or possibly Melchizedek ), but he's still very clearly an angel, unlike that robot up there. That thing is way more sci-fi than anything I've seen in an SMT game.

@zeik: Sandalphon was actually my first pick, but there aren't a lot of good pictures of him on the site. There's also something from the newest game that... well, suffice to say that SMT isn't afraid to get pretty sci-fi when they feel like it. I mean, when there's a demon named Chemtrail I feel like anything is fair game.

@corevi: I guess Strange Journey did lean more sci-fi than usual, but I don't know, I still don't get much of an SMT vibe from that pic. Moot point now I suppose.

I'm currently playing through it for the first time. Almost to the end and I love it.

However, that screenshot in particular is very high res and the game doesn't look quite that good. I mean, the art style is extremely good but yeah. I wish there was an HD version of Nocturne so bad. :(

My first thought was some sort of Persona and Evangelion mashup, a game idea which has instantly catapulted itself to the top of my "Never gonna happen but fuck do I wish it would" list.

I have that but my crappy computer can't run most games on it so I just got the PSN version.

Needless to say, my computer also cannot run a damn thing. I really should get to building a gaming PC, eh

@frostyryan: f there's one thing I'd like to see from a remake/enhanced port it's an updated UI. The whole interface is pretty bland.
