I think it's fake, but I wouldn't mind if the console actually looked like that.
SCEA representative told Kotaku that the above video was not produced or released by them.
Not gaudy enough.
If that's a fake teaser then the creator should be commended for hitting exactly the correct level of obnoxiousness to replicate a Playstation campaign.
Exactly what I was thinking. Its exactly the kind of dumb sony would go for.
It's a kinda-sorta welldone though mistake-heavy fake video, but the most telltale sign for me was that it wasn't in line with other Sony home electronics designs and frankly, looks like shit aesthetically (speaking as one of the artsy types who enjoy hours of fine art museums).
Do we even know if they're going to keep the PSU internal? They were the only ones doing it last time around. The chassis should be done by now anyway, goal is to start production in June. Might see something on the 25th unless there's a Chinese factory-leak.
e: I think my PS3 Slim 120 is loud, but it's like within arms reach and I play it on the monitor in front of me. Compared to 360s over the years it's really not bad - PS3s do the crazy thing and carry internal power supplies! Imagine how much space, money and decibels could be saved..
I think its fake, It just doesn't seem to fit Sony's other ads, but wouldn't mind it if that was really it. I think it was the last E3 or Tokyo Game Show that some Japanese company made there own "leaked" PS4 advertisement or something, so i wouldn't doubt if this was the same thing happening.
LED stuff is usually highly customizable. You certainly can turn it off. Such things can be capable of glowing in different colors. It could pulse rhythmically on boot-up/shut down. Do ambient lighting stuff. Regardless, if such a thing is part of Sony's box, it will be optional, and very likely customizable too.
From how professionally it's produced, it's likely a pitch of an external marketing agency to Sony. Likely Sony didn't give away the final design of the box, but just an internal mock-up. Doesn't mean the actual design is far removed from what we see here. It's highly likely that's the direction Sony is going for.
I must say, it was a pretty well-produced fake. I wish fakes could be called out by companies this fast all the time, but of course when you do that, you also run the risk of letting everybody know when you have a real leak.
P.S. Sony's offical denial is ambiguous in regards to the box itself. The Kotaku article says...
Alas, a representative from Sony's American division has confirmed to Kotaku that this isn’t an official clip, saying that it wasn't produced or released by them.
The box isn't explicitly labeled as fake, only the video is.
Pretty obviously faked since the imagery was a bit too "obvious" with the Triangle, Circle Square, Xross and the actors were all sitting down in fairly empty environs....all of it was at a level someone could fake easily in a bedroom. Sony would have put those people in 'Ikea style' living rooms and moved the camera more and showed people "pretending" playing a games, etc.
